| 1. | [No Subject] Posted by Noggin on 6/30/2003 12:37:18 AM I've been experimenting with the new merchants. It was a bit awkward at first until I figured it all out. Generally, I find the system very interesting and has the potential to add a lot of flavor to the world. However, I do have some concerns. I realize that this is a first pass at implementing the new merchant system, so hopefully we have time to address these concerns.

| 2. | [No Subject] Posted by Noggin on 6/30/2003 12:37:18 AM Aria, thanks for the thorough reply. Your efforts are appreciate! :D Unfortunately, we tend to post about problems and not about all the great stuff which works so well (which is a lot).
I've noticed a few other issues with the merchant system. I didn't want to overwhelm everyone with too many points in my previous post and have the merchant system thrown out entirely ;).
FYI on determining fair market price (for those unfamiliar with the feature): To determine the fair ... |
| 3. | item with haste Posted by Noggin on 6/30/2003 12:37:14 AM FYI: At the midor dock shop, check out the ninja suit with haste.
Q: If a weapon (like a staff) has haste, is that considered permanment (esp considering a character must use it, which may be non-optimal)? I don't have a strong opinion on this, just curious. |
| 4. | Re: xp system Posted by Noggin on 9/1/2003 8:53:31 PM I just noticed this thread today. I'm a bit confused as to what the decision was made on the changes, if any.
What I am concerned about is the rewarding of xp being dependent on spell type (i.e. offensive or other). If more xp is rewarded for offensive spells, this would only encourage battle-type mages (i.e. more hack-n-slash).
The xp should be the same across the board, independent of spell type. Otherwise, we will have less variety in mages, and true role-playing ... |
| 5. | Re: Illogical Monster Respawns and Too-Rapidly Diminishing EP Posted by Noggin on 9/1/2003 9:36:28 PM I understand the overall goals (and mathematics) of the XP system and think it's brillant. I agree with Aria 100% on what she has said about it.

| 6. | Re: An Update on Merchants, and Player Vendor Extensions. Posted by Noggin on 7/31/2003 11:40:34 AM The merchant system is an important part of the world. It is one of the first aspects that a new player will interact with. So it is important that this system leaves a positive first impression for new players, esp. if we wish to keep them here. I recently started a new character and got to experience vives from their perspective.
This module has lots of interesting pieces to it. And the people involved with the creation of this module are fantastic. I would like for this ... |
| 7. | Re: An Update on Merchants, and Player Vendor Extensions. Posted by Noggin on 7/31/2003 1:05:07 PM Sorry to hear about losing the newer scripts. Good luck on fixing them and finding the culprit responsible for altering your hard work. ... hmmm ... When you find out who, I've got a pail full of milk ready to throw on them, hehe, from my cow ;-).
If the scripting function only returns the rank, then you might need to add effects from items in addition to INT. There are items IG that give appraise bonuses. *looks around innocently* I suspect some divine intervention put that item ... |
| 8. | Re: An Update on Merchants, and Player Vendor Extensions. Posted by Noggin on 8/1/2003 5:02:42 PM Great work! ... I will have to exercise the new system when I can get a chance Thanks Arizzle :D
Not sure if this should be a separate thread ...
Heal Kits I've noticed heal kits are no longer available from merchants. With my newest character, I've already seen several people slowly die, without the means to help them![]() |

| 10. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by Noggin on 8/4/2003 1:02:53 PM Nice observations on your part ...
QUOTE: The thugs in Minor are pretty tough for even a 3rd level Ranger (not to mention without arrows) I assume you mean, Midor Docks area? If so, those at least can be "examined" before you engaged them - giving you a choice to leave without a fight.
QUOTE: With very little equipment from the Merchants, and with most of it out of a low level players ability to buy or use, it leaves low level characters really ... |
| 11. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by Noggin on 8/5/2003 4:37:25 PM When a new character arrives in the lands, s/he should be initially encouraged to: * get the feel of the lands * learn about the core areas * meet other characters * create adventuring parties
With the discovery XP, this all can be achieved with out fighting (hack and slash), while gaining XP! I think it is a brillant system. Almost any class can reach the 3rd level just by exploring the safe areas. Though a few area entrances IMO need some tweaking, like ... |

Close, but not entirely true. *big grin* Careful on such rash conclusions. ;)

| 13. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by Noggin on 8/6/2003 10:13:23 AM BTW, I'm not defending his character's actions.
I'll not elaborate further in the forums about it. I'll catch you in IRC some evening, maybe tonight.
You are trapping yourself in stereotypes too much. ;) Drop the Mundane and embrace Creativity, my friend.

Though in early September, my business schedule is very tight. After that, it will get back to it's normal choatic state.

| 15. | Re: Farewell to All Posted by Noggin on 8/18/2003 10:11:38 PM At first I thought this was a publicity gimick, see ... Fenarisk's Previous Farewell
Now that I read it is real this time .... I am deeply sadden.
Fen, you have been a tremendous force in the Vives world. You lively quips and DM style will certainly be missed, but not forgotten.
I wish you well in your RL adventures.
I'll leave you with this poem, and hope ... |

There was a young lady from Kent Who said that she knew what it meant When men asked her to dine On caviar and wine, She knew! How she knew! But she went!

BTW, great organization of your thoughts.
I want to ponder about this for a bit, before adding some thoughts.

| 20. | Re: Weekly Adventure Group (Thursday) Posted by noggin on 8/3/2003 9:47:09 AM Arasus, you would be most welcome to join us.
It will be interesting to see a paladin's reaction to our boisterous group, LOL.
If you can get your character up to level 3-4 by next thursday, then you'll be all set.
I'm looking forward to seeing your character background. I'll add a link to it in the list of characters in the first post |
| 21. | Re: Weekly Adventure Group (Thursday) Posted by noggin on 7/27/2003 5:00:26 PM Update links for * Eemohone * Fennel Turningleaf
P.S. You can great a new thread for you char background. No need to all piggyback on the same thread.

| 22. | Re: Weekly Adventure Group (Thursday) Posted by Noggin on 7/29/2003 4:26:31 PM Well, it looks we have enough character backgrounds to preceed to Step 3.
Let's all create our characters (if you haven't yet), and individually get them to level 3-4. Afterwards, we can meet as a group.
Meanwhile, we will work on a group story that better defines our group cohesion.
How does an official start date for our weekly group session of August 7th sound?

| 23. | Weekly Adventure Group (Thursday) Posted by noggin on 7/14/2003 11:11:58 PM I would like to start a weekly adventuring group. Our characters would meet once a week for a group adventure. During the days in-between, your character may wander around, but they should avoid gaining experience points. Obviously, players may use their other characters as much as they want.
You can consider the days in-between as the time the characters spend in-between adventures. They would be replenishing supplies, gathering information from the locals, crafting, and ... |
| 24. | Re: Weekly Adventure Group Posted by noggin on 7/14/2003 11:16:58 PM For this group, I'm considering play a bard with some skills in performing, persuasion, and a decent melee fighter.
If this type of character fits into the group, I'll write more details on the character background.
