Pre EpisodeOne Storyline? Posted: 18 Aug 2003 09:03 AM |
As you folks would know, Vives would eventually be surrounding core episodes that spans over several months, as well as involving everyone. This is a new venture for us that, as far as we know, has no precedence. With that said, I'd like to test the waters and see whether this idea is at all possible. I'm seeing certain elements in Vives that could span over September (or more), engaging both players, DMs, as well as builders. I'm hoping that this would set the precedence for any upcoming core stories.
Still fidgeting with ideas and contacting folks, I'll keep you posted on this thread whether it's a go or no-go. |

Potential difficulties:
(i) Stories need a subject, a protagonist of sorts - how can we possibly correlate this with the varying timezones? |

What if the protaganist is an npc? Any dm could control him/her, and the episode could be centered around their need to do or find or whatever.
I will most probably definitely (hate to try to predict the future ) be around 3 to 5 hours/week in september.

I will be around during september, by then I may even be a complete addict and I will be playing 24\7, wondering why the rations don't sate my RL hunger, and resting does not make me feel refreshed. Heh, anyway yeah i'll be around, I want to play.

Despite RL being troublesome and time consuming, I can manage 3 to 5 hours a week with ease in September. Although I cant guarantee a stable amount of time a week, might fluctuate. I have to manouvre between work, study, social obligations and graduating now and then ;).

I don't know if I count for this because I'm so new....
But anyways, I'm more than likely to be spending 2-3 hours a weekday on, much more on weekends. |

Re: Pre EpisodeOne Storyline? Posted: 18 Aug 2003 08:00 PM |
I think this is something that really lends itself to the "adventuring group" philosophy... One such as our Thursday night group. This way, groups of people are gathered together with a DM in their particular timezone, and their groups essentially form a part of the storyline.
From the Player's side, this gives a sense of community and purpose, as well as "organizing" their "Plot" time along with their "Freeform RP" time.
From the DM side... it gives us a chance to coordinate storylines, keep people moving in the same direction, perhaps even pit groups against one another, perhaps in just a simple friendly rivalry, perhaps some fundamentally deeper conflict, say a "good" group trying to push one story arc, whilst an "evil" group tries to advance another... MUAHAHAHAH...
Anyway, I'd like to see more of these adventuring groups form up as our population grows.
Thoughts, anyone? |

| I put in 90 hours in under three weeks. I think I can manage 3 to 5 hours per week once school starts. :P |

My playing schedule is not tied to school schedules, so I'll be around.
Though in early September, my business schedule is very tight. After that, it will get back to it's normal choatic state.

I'll be around, but I disagree that the story needs a protagonist. Unless the DM's have something particular in mind. I think ideally the story would involve all those who play and whose characters work toward some aim in life. That aim may be great or small, and involve many or few chars.
However, by the sounds of things, events are going to be DM driven and that's cool as a start point, but I think (in the long term) player driven storyline development would be more exciting and involving. Hopfully the DM driven storyline will set up the history/economic/governing powers that players can then work within to make an impact on the world. (if that's their wish) |

Re: Pre EpisodeOne Storyline? Posted: 19 Aug 2003 10:37 AM |
As Dens said, only 3-5 a week? Try 3-5 a day or something :P
I also disagree that we need a protagonist, but for different reasons. Having a protagonist can be game destroying for those who aren't the protagonist. For a start, how can you continue the game if the major character isn't there? Also, other players may become a weeeeeeeeeee bit resentful as the protagonist gets the major artifact, the place on the government/general of the army - or, quite simply, all the DM attention. This happened in my old guild, and when finally the other players had had enough of the PC who was being given all the cool stuff, the backlash of resent that had built up nearly took the guild down with it.
That, however, I don't feel will happen in Vives. |

I agree very much that it takes alot of care to make it work. I'd like to talk about what I'm having in mind with some DMs soon, to see whether it is at all feasible.
Thanks for the feedbacks! |
