| 2. | Re: Plead for rogues/druids/rangers and all their prc's Posted by Zeln on 11/28/2003 6:24:15 AM Animals, Beasts or Magical Beasts can often have true seeing, usually related to them seeing things differently to people. |
| 3. | Re: Plead for rogues/druids/rangers and all their prc's Posted by Zeln on 11/14/2003 9:24:24 AM The offer of a bonus to spot and listen is one i've grown to like. There are other issues though, like how high hide and listen can be taken to, no idea what it's like in Vives (I haven't tried a stealthy character in Vives yet) but I know that in most circumstances there are more ways to raise your Hide and Silently skills than there are ways to improve your Spot and Listen skills.
Generally I'd agree with See Invis and Clairaudience. Unfortunately you can't change what monsters get ... |
| 4. | Re: The End of Us Posted by Zeln on 11/24/2003 6:39:38 AM We tried so hard and go so far, but in the end....
nevermind...
anyway, you've already stated that people will move onto newer things, and if they do they'll probably find that others have moved to there as well. So really the cycle just repeats itself. |
| 5. | Re: Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/28/2003 6:16:48 AM I think some of the feats and spells are very nice reasons to upgrade, not to mention the usefulness of some of the PrC's. |
| 6. | Re: True Seeing Posted by Zeln on 11/22/2003 6:58:21 AM Discussion carried over from IRC, as per request. If the spell were to be done "properly", then this would be the result.
A cleric with the spell cast would be able to see onto the ethereal plane. This is moot here, but would be a real spoiler for anyone trying to sneak past ethereal. However, the Cleric would be able to see a nimbu of alignment aura around your PCs location. Not only would this tell the cleric you were there, but would also ... |
| 7. | Re: True Seeing Posted by Zeln on 11/24/2003 6:35:01 AM Just thinking, would be nice if True seeing did act more like it did.
What if it actively dispelled illusions around you, granted you immunity to illusion spells and for completeness granted Ultravision... okay so it now effects others as well - so they can see, but it lets people hide... or is it just a little bit excessive and OTT? |
| 8. | The familiar speaking thing... Posted by Zeln on 11/21/2003 9:19:36 AM Just wondering where you got the material from, is there somewhere where we can download it? |
| 9. | Re: The familiar speaking thing... Posted by Zeln on 11/22/2003 6:32:07 AM Ah thankyou. |
| 10. | Re: Carrier Pigeons Posted by Zeln on 11/20/2003 8:13:26 AM Good question, some people don't like the "cheese" factor. Psychic powers especially can run down a whole hoarde of issues, the fact that they aren't psychic for one thing, then there's reading other's mind (or descriptions) and getting IC facts off it.
Pigeons and messengers I'd say were okay, Mindspeak - well there are spells for that sort of thing and as for talking to people who are just off screan, it should be okay... |
| 11. | Re: The Essence of Evil Posted by Zeln on 11/20/2003 8:07:36 AM I have an evil character, I think...
Anyway, they don't go around killing people (well... not non "evil" people) and it's not to do with what you do, it's all down to why you do it.
Kill an innocent - not evil Kill an innocent by accident - not evil Kill an innocent because you want to - evil
Sure you can look at what someone does and say they're evil, but really they may have good intentions. For all intents and purposes, my evil ... |
| 12. | Re: Animal empathy: Forced domination or willingly Posted by Zeln on 11/18/2003 6:12:34 AM So do AE'd animals always go angry after you AE them? If so it's probably a bug relating to attacks... it considers the AE as an attack which makes it go red after the charm or domination wears off, or something like that. |
| 13. | Re: Animal empathy: Forced domination or willingly Posted by Zeln on 11/18/2003 11:04:41 AM Animals aren't exactly bursting with intelligence when they have a rating of two. Charmed people usually remember what they did when they were charmed, but that's not the issue here. If they were hostile before you dominated or charmed them (charmed stand by and watch, dominated fight with you) then they'll revert to being hostile - just like anyone else you charm or dominate.
If they're neutral and go hostile after the effects worn off, then it's a bug... |
| 14. | Re: Animal empathy: Forced domination or willingly Posted by Zeln on 11/19/2003 7:00:25 AM It has to be domination, otherwise they wouldn't fight with you. If you ever use Charm person or Monster they just stop fighting you, if you use Dominate you control their mind and they fight for you. |
| 15. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/17/2003 6:15:37 AM There is no huge level gap, or there already is and it's about 10 levels big. Or 17 if you go to a new player.
It's not going to be that bad. You don't jump from level 20 to level 28 as quickly (or as long) as it takes for 1 to 8?
Considering the max xp you'd get from something is around 2 - 300 or so - and that's at 10% of standard DND. Then shove in all of Vives calculations and you've got hoardes to do before you even get to level 21, and you hardly gain god like powers ... |
| 16. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/18/2003 6:00:03 AM Yay! hugs Tasara, irrational fears are gone... |
| 17. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/14/2003 9:41:45 AM
d) you should complain based on your own bad experiences.
Well put.
except you missed the "It doesn't mean" part...
You shouldn't complain based on your own bad experiences. |
| 18. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/15/2003 9:08:53 AM Tasara - why do you think epic equals level 40?
Also, epic characters don't go around fighting threats, also, the threats they face are usually noticable. If you go up against a Xixiecel, you're going to notice it's effects way before you see the thing, and when you do it's going to be hard to miss, providing the White dragons sitting on it's shoulders don't lauch off and kill you first.
Epic characters end up doing what they do, they simply have the power to effect more ... |
| 19. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/13/2003 7:25:43 AM It seems the people who have played epic D&D campaigns are the ones that like it the least. Which might suggest that it's just their bad experiences with epic levels and how they've done them. Epic levels can be good if you challenge the epic party with suitably impossible challenges - you have to think broad, but when it comes to cataclysmic(SP?) events - it's the epic people who can usually solve them. Completing an epic quest can also take as long as it took to get to epic level. So ... |
| 20. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/13/2003 8:01:35 AM What like, Paragon Pseudonatural(Epic) Liche Force Dragon-Balor Contruct Abominations? Or Rainbow Dragons that breath everyform of dragon breath on you at the same time? Or my personal favourite - Paragon Humans(choosen of Mystra) - Prismatic Dragon Disciple/Bard/Weapon Master(Claw) - and no i've never been the last one. |
| 21. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/13/2003 10:46:54 AM Maybe they haven't actually looked at deities and their power or realistically looked at how much effort can go into getting to just level 40... it's not like you just jump up to level 100 or something. I ran an epic campaign with a group of 6 level 40 characters and they had a tough time completing the first quest given to them, after 2 months of playing they eventually resolved it, and even then they couldn't really solve the problem.
Before I go into the level 40 epic campaign I ... |
| 22. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Zeln on 11/14/2003 7:05:24 AM Can I just point out, that if you use HotU and I hope you do. It doesn't mean
a) You overly cater for epic levels b) everybodies going to get to them c) even if someone does get epic levels, there's nothing saying that they'll be level 40 the next day d) you should complain based on your own bad experiences. |
| 23. | Re: Roleplay Sugestions Posted by Zeln on 11/15/2003 9:17:12 AM Not roleplaying by stats again... this is the fourth PW this has come up for debate in this month. Please... just don't do it, you're not taking into account any number of issues that make a character.
Also, the originator pointed out the huge logic flaw in the concept, so please, spare me and don't bother roleplaying to stats at all. |
| 24. | Re: Roleplay Sugestions Posted by Zeln on 11/18/2003 6:08:47 AM I don't think anyone said they were meaningless, but it doesn't mean you can use them effectively, and as Fen said (thankyou) - You don't know their stats. I hear about fighters with stats of 10, how did they know and 10 is average anyway, maybe they don't need to be geniuses to figure stuff out.
Personality stats don't mean one constant thing, two characters with the same personality stats aren't the same, and it doesn't mean the guy with 20 int is going to figure out what the guy ... |
| 25. | Re: Roleplay Sugestions Posted by Zeln on 11/17/2003 9:12:37 AM For the record, I absolutely hate this topic... it's not that RP'ing to stats isn't a nice notion, it's just realisisticly not possible.
First off, I've never had a serious character with a serious stat penalty in a 'personality stat'. I am not a stat power gamer in that sense. My issue is not with attempting to roleplay 'ps' that are low, it's with roleplaying stats you don't have... and then we come onto issues that aren't covered in NWN.
You say I can't debate with you ... |
