1.A Return to Vives?
Posted by para on 6/23/2008 7:14:54 AM
Firstly, congratulations on keeping Vives up and running for so long, is it over five years now?

I recently got a little nostalgic about my time on this server, I’m unsure if anyone will remember my two main characters; Doujan (Elven rogue/shadow-dancer) and Eerel Swiftfoot (the fast little Halfling). I got to thinking about some of excellent times on Vives:

Storming the with Hill(?) Giant Caves with Glordong and Alton.
Wheeler-dealing with Cantor.
Quests to ...

Cheers WickedArtist!

Crazy adventures indeed, ending with bar brawls at the Docs!

I'm not really sure where to start as I'm guessing the hakpaks have changed, I don't know how to go about logging onto the server and my worry that the player character bank has been purged!

Thanks for the replies, it looks as if there have been a couple of new haks added which I'll get hold of and good news about the character vault being intact too.

renter6: I'm in the UK so GMT for me which is EST -5 if google is correct. I'm hoping to get online on Thursday and possibly a little at the weekend. Say hello if you see me!

Also, do I need a password to get online at all?
4.Vives² Suggestions
Posted by para on 5/3/2006 2:57:24 PM
All my personal taste and perhaps not to everyone elses:

1) More multicultural cities like Port Royale.

2) More nations giving more scope for conflict between them.

3) Less technology, damned gnomes and their flying machines!

4) Keep the wonderful 'on-entry' area descriptions

5) Make the original Vives 1 downloadable!

Not very imaginative currently but I'll rack my brain.

Can't wait to see what you guys come up ...
5.Eerel Swiftfoot
Posted by para on 11/23/2004 2:49:10 PM
A jovial little halfling who can be found sprinting around the land often with an animal friend in tow, complaining about how slow people are! Self proclaimed 'fastest liddle person in da land' who is always willing to help a mate and is generous to a fault. His uselessness with 'shinies' often means he owes large sums of gold to merchants, friends and acquaintances alike.

A lover of nature and all things woodsy, Eerel can also be found practising his second favourite past time ...
6.NWN2 Worries
Posted by para on 10/13/2006 5:36:01 AM
I must say I do have high expectations for Vives in its NWN2 incarnation, but should I temper these as it appears Obsidian aren't exactly catering for PWs?

I know this has probably been common knowledge for some time but the following link is worrying:

http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=502644&forum=100&sp=15

I'm also wondering what this means for Vives in its current form...

Interesting. I suppose that helps alleviate my worries somewhat! 50 areas does seem rather modest though.

With regards to the buffer zone can you not copy and paste the surrounding actual areas so that the areas seamlessly merge and thus save work?

Great to have this officially confirmed by the powers that be!

The biggest attraction of Vives for me has always been the atmospheric and lovingly crafted world, it's kept me coming back for more for two and a half years. I can't wait to see what the builders come up with using the new engine.

It's a shame in a way that some of Vives background and character will be lost as this new world is forged. Although from Fictrix's poetic verses (fantastic by the way) I see the ...

10.Journey to Brandibuck
Posted by para on 5/9/2006 12:09:03 PM
Thick black clouds rolled across the sky, the air was thick and hot, feeling heavy in his lungs. Distant thunder boomed, preceded by flashes of lightning as the day turned dark. The summer storms had turned the trail Eerel and Visariya took through Bloodwood into a muddy quagmire. he had already lost his boots several times in the waterlogged earth, having to retrieve them with a tug and wet popping sound. He jogged along at a pace his guardian, the usually jet black panther Visariya, could ...

12.A Swift Tale
Posted by para on 4/15/2006 5:55:46 AM
The sun’s rays danced through the canopy onto the morning dew, glittering like a sea of tiny gems on the forest floor. Early spring in Bloodwood was a wonderful time, assuming you knew which trails were best taken and those which we’re best avoided. The leaves we’re fresh, vivid and dancing in the cool breeze, a myriad of birds sang in celebration of the Mother’s new season and those creatures which preferred a deep slumber through the cold times awoke to their first morn in many months.
13.A Swift Tale
Posted by para on 4/19/2006 1:42:15 PM
Like a blur the figure sped through the undergrowth, small hands deftly moved leaves and bushes aside, whilst large hairy feet dodged rocks, logs and protruding roots on the forest floor.

A guttural and resigned noise sounded some way behind the speeding Halfling, then a loud thud as though a tree had fallen to the ground. He glanced over his shoulder and half-heartedly suppressed a chuckle. He slowed to a halt, dried mud and leaves falling from his person.

The young ...
14.The Cave
Posted by para on 5/2/2006 11:18:03 AM
His head pounded as he attempted to lift himself off the cold, damp floor. He raised his chest and head a few inches but his strength failed him, he could taste blood in his mouth and then everything turned to white again.

He didn’t know how long he lay there in the cave, his awareness coming and going as he drifted between the darkest black and the searing white. The silence was deafening, exaggerating the already excruciating pain in his skull. He became aware of the pain in his ...

*Brianna notices that more items are on the list but from a different person. She scans the list and notices a belt for trade and wonders to herself if it would be up for sale. Beside the listing of the belt of Hill Giant Strength she write: I, Brianna Wolfslayer will pay 12000 gold for this belt if you will sell it*

*In the same tiny and neatly formed script as the note was written*

Sorry, trade only.

The bidders who have offered scrolls are accepted on the condition they provide four parchments for trade.

I hope you find this deal acceptable, I can be found in Swiftfoot Glade, Bloodwood, close to the birches.

Isy.

20.The Headless Halfling - Eerel's Head Hak
Posted by para on 10/8/2004 7:52:41 PM
Apologies for this over sight on my part, but I used the wrong hak when creating Eerel.

Anyone who spends any length of time with the annoying little bugger may want to downlaod the following hak pak to see his head. Its over 11mb, so again sorry for that.

I just started using these over-rides again and just thought I'd share them. As far as I'm aware they don't cause any issues with the haks and they look real nice imo!

Posted by para on 11/7/2004 4:42:06 PM
Thanks to you too Sol, I had really good fun on this event.

I'm totally in favour of splitting large groups up into smaller parties as this seems to be much less stressful for the server and really allows for some great interactions (imo anyway).

Unfortunately in the past I've given up on many events part-way through due mainly to lag/crashes caused by 10+ sized parties. From my point of view I'd love to see more events with smaller parties taking part. I realise that ...
