Who is your character like (From books/movies/real life)?
Posted: 30 May 2006 01:17 PM
So, what or who does your character(s) resemble, both mentally and visually?
And please give reasons for such.

I'll start with Orsk.

He is something in between Marv (Sin City) and Jean Valjean (Les Miserables). Visually he resembles Marv; big, ugly and strong. The black coat is also an important factor. Occationally he can be as brutal as Marv too. Mentally he is more like Valjean though; old, helpful, plenty of experience in life, plenty of past mistakes, and a daughter as his primary light in life (though Valjean's daughter was adopted).

Ooh. Fun.

Okay, so Rosen is sorta like Zoe Washburn from Firefly. A sense of humor that's been pounded into wryness and a prevailing attitude of professionalism and military decorum. She's loyal by nature and quick to call BS when she sees it. That's her forward persona.

Inwardly and physically, I'd say something along the lines of Harry Crewe, early in McKinley's The Blue Sword. Tall, strong, and far prettier than she allows. Possessed of a great many inapplicable mores in a savage land. Tans easy.

True solace is finding none, which is to say, it is everywhere.

Wow, this /is/ fun.

Dominick is Clive Owen's character in Match Point. Most nearly, anyway.

*peers up a post* On the inside, he's a little bit more of a stand-up kinda guy than that.

Wow. I haven't thought about this at all.

Let's see now...

*Ponders for a long while*

Hmmm, I suppose what comes to mind as similar to Nidarren would be Angel, from Angel, or Mr. Eko, from Lost.

At least his attitude. I mean, completely different motivations from both Angel and Eko, but the attitude is very alike.

Visually, I thought and re-thought about it for a long time before I decided how I wanted him to look. I can't think of anyone from whom I took inspiration. Ooh, but I did get the idea for his hairstyle from a portrait of the druid from Diablo II, which I really liked. Although Nidarren's hair is much more... tame.

I'll think about this some more. I'll get back to you on this one.

I've been considering a character homage to BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder.) I've known a few who were diagnosed, and thought it would be fun to play (or therapeutic) and wreak havok throughout Vives. (Considering the wreckage Dana has been causing lately, DM's may not want two head-cases running around... heehee!)

Concept would be based on an ex-relationship of mine: legalistically religious, yet for the most part selfish/immature and with bursts of uncontrolled emotion; a difficult task to RP, but the awkward and frustrating situations that could be created would make for entertaining conflict. I'm also reading a book about dealing with people with BPD, so it would be fun to apply what I read.

It would be unfair to base her image on my ex-relationship, so there was another friend of a friend, who was quite attractive and would make a fun physical encapsulation of this individual... Imagine the beautiful, seductive, alluring, charming woman dedicated to Midoran and fervently pious, who would do anything for you... You'd think she's the perfect goody two-shoes and everything goes great being her freind... as long as it goes her way and you don't "betray her" [interests].

Now I just need DM approval to make a Midoran... oh... and things need to settle down a bit with Kal; he's got a lot going on right now. ;)

Ulalume:

Physically, somewhere between Maria Sharopova and Willow from "Buffy" - statuesque and blonde, but with the cute bob and more GND features than supermodel.

Characterwise, she's quite similar to Clive Owen's King Arthur from the recent movie of the same name - honor-bound, duty-driven, with a strong sense of responsibility for others, someone who has been betrayed by those she served, had her past ripped violently from her and is seeking to build something new and true in the world.

Barrett:

Physically Barrett is a lot like Kevin Costner in "Silverado".

Characterwise, he is Han Solo. ;)

Salt was my anti-adventurer, someone to play when I wanted to be in the background, just there for some color. He's a composite of several grouchy shopkeeper types, but based also on Ralph Richardson's shirking wizard from the movie Dragonslayer, and sometimes his manservant Hodge. I never get sick of that movie!

I play late Saturday nights sometimes and have Dr. Who on the TV, so there's some of that in there too, any of the first three Doctors (sometimes I really channel Patrick Troughton's utter cowardice in the face of danger, which is loads of fun).

"I'm talking about dying."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Hrm. Karli. Wow. She's gone through so many permutations...

I never have a definitive physical image in mind for Karli. She's meant to be an encapsulation of stunning (yet amazingly generic) feminine beauty, so no one woman in particular represents her. I have my favorites, but I like to just let people make up their own mind about it.

Personality wise, she's a mix between Cordelia from "Buffy" and that blonde chick from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," with a dash of Courtney Love thrown in for junkie goodness.

*drums nails*

I guess that doesn't help too much.

Lucius was never meant to be like any character I've encountered in fiction, and I hope he's not. He probably looks a lot like Harry Potter would when he's 38, though, minus the glasses.

Harry Deepburrow, on the other hand, being a bit more of a charicature, was modelled on a character from fiction, though really only Form has seen something other than his annoying side - yoda.

For Juylina, I guess she's a bit of a cross between an ex girlfriend (minus the killing and pryoness of course), Cordelia from the first few seasons of "Buffy" (not the Angel version) and any random "firey" redhead.

Cantor Matriel

I watched Babylon 5 recently and was really struck by the similarities between Cantor and Bester (the psi-cop). Both characters are generally considered "bad guys" but both see themselves simply as willing to do anything to put themselves and the society the represent (Cantor - humans) (Bester - psychics) ahead. Both characters are people who prefer to work behind the scenes but aren't afraid of getting their own hands dirty when others can't be relied upon. Cantor is racist in the same way that Bester considers non-psychics as simply a competitor rather than a race in their own right with values of their own.

They also both have a very dry sense of humour and are quite open about their agenda, but feel they are close to untouchable due to their power and social position. Both also enjoy twisting words and intentions back on so-called do-gooders whom are either not intelligent or articulate enough to best them in these word games. Both characters are also quite patient and don't get overly upset over setbacks to their plans. They have a strong degree of self-control.

Physically Cantor is just as he appears in-game. Right down to the scar in his portrait.

Hmmm….Ophelia

Two Parts. Danny from Jet Li’s movie Unleashed. ((Neat plot terrible movie.))

One Part. Garbage Disposal.

One Part. Southern Bell.

Three Parts. Lue Ferrigno.

In a giant black caldron bring water to boil. Ad Danny parts to form the past and battle abilities. Simmer for 2 hours. Next ad an industrial strength Black and Decker Garbage Disposal to form eating habits. Stir until blended thoroughly. Peal a Southern Bell and add innards for a nice speech and outward demeanor. Boil off rest of water. Then Mash up Lue Ferrigno as the Incredible Hulk into a fine paste and mold large body. Pour contents of caldron inside paste and let sit for 4 days.

This is so weird. The recipe sounded so good, I just had to try it. I swear I followed it verbatim, but...

Whoops. I used a southern bell orginally from Mississippi who relocated to Milwaukee, WI after a bad relationship.

Well, Zubeida al-Maheeni and Umm Saad are actually names of characters from Arabian Nights and Days by Naguib Mahfouz. Sakhrabout is the name of one of the genies in the book. If you have not read that book, I highly recommend it. Mahfouz is one of the best writers of fiction out there. If you like fantasy, Arabian Nights and Days puts a nice twist on the old 1001 Nights.

Zubeida however was modeled after some old Frazetta paintings ... the Egyptian Queen for one. He seems to associate women with wild animals, and I thought wouldn't it be cool to make a female character with magical powers from a desert who always has a couple panthers in tow? Kinda like the queen of Sheeba or something... and it just grew from there. I should have made her a sorceress with lots of charm spells... but I just wasn't thinking the archetype through. Instead of uber charismatic she's more the retiring brainy type.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think she has a touch of Hermione Granger to her. She's always reading.

I can't really think about one personality that inspired me to create Ayntherian, he's more like a combination of many cool things I've seen - other Monk Characters (mostly), some Anime characters, and then just other thoughts running through my head about Ki and spiritual things.
Besides, Ayn is too young to have his personality clearly defined.Tongue outIt'll probably change in time once I and he get more established in this world.

Hmm...Valethrion, I suppose, has slight resemblance to the actor that played Doctor Hannibal Lector (NOT Anthony Hopkins; the other, not-as-good-as-Hopkins guy). But think higher cheek-bones, paler skin, a little buffer, perhaps, and with shoulder length hair. Oh, and the green/amber eyes.

He also shares the occasional sociopathic urge, as well as a flash of bitter cynism and an interested loathing of the world in general.

Actually, think of Dr. Lector after eloping with Starling, if you have any idea of what I speak.

Throw that in with a touch of penitent benevolence that surfaces around things that are familiar or hold a special meaning to him so we give him a bit of a Raistlin Majere complex.

{( Edit )} - Now that I think about it, I'm very certain the name of the actor is Brian Cox; I'm not a hundred percent sure, though. Gratitude to Ghannodahn for jogging my memory.
