What's Your Character's Theme Song? Posted: 26 Jan 2006 02:23 PM |
So I was thinking about my character, trying to refine him a bit more, and I had this little idea. What would my character's theme song would be? A song, poem, maybe just a chorus, that describes him well.
I thought this was an interesting topic for a thread.
Anyway: Nidarren Elaran - I came up with Seether feat. Amy Lee - Broken. I think it fits to a certain significant event in his life. >.>
"Broken (feat. Amy Lee)"
I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
You've gone away, you don't feel me, anymore
The worst is over now and we can breathe again I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
[x2] 'Cause I'm broken when I'm open And I don't feel like I am strong enough 'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
You've gone away You don't feel me here anymore
One of my favorite songs. Can't get enough of it. :)
Also Godsmack's I Stand Alone fits him very very well. :P |

Vidus's theme song is, of course, "Holier Than Thou" by Metallica.

*eyes* Metallica can't differentiate between "then" and "than" either? Why am I not surprised... ;p
According to Byron, who knows her better than anyone but me, Eliana's song is Disturbed's "Darkness"...
Don’t turn away / I pray you’ve heard the words I’ve spoken / Dare to believe / For one last time / And then I’ll let the darkness cover me / Deny everything / Slowly walk away / To breathe again on my own / Carry me away / I need your strength to get me through this / Dare to believe / For one last time / And then I’ll let the darkness cover me / Deny everything / Slowly walk away to breathe again on my own
...While I maintain it's Breaking Benjamin's "So Cold".
Crowded streets are cleared away one by one / Hollow heroes separate as they run / You're so cold / Keep your hand in mine / Wise men wonder while strong men die / Show me how it ends; it's all right / Show me how defenseless you really are / Satisfied and empty inside / But that's all right; let's give this another try / If you find your family, don't you cry / In this land of make-believe, dead and dry / You're so cold, but you feel alive / Lay your hands on me one last time
Either way. *nods*
For those who know him, Eliana+Gabriel is completely Tori's "Don't Make Me Come to Vegas" for many many reasons.
And the Jacaranda tree is telling me it's not over yet, just by the way she bends / "If you come breezin' through," you said, "I'll know that it's you by the taste on my lips" / I bet on my desert's kiss I could slip through your net / "Over my dead body" |
Consequences Unsent
It's hard to say it, time to say it... Goodbye, goodbye |

Re: What's Your Character's Theme Song? Posted: 26 Jan 2006 04:47 PM |
That’s an easy one... since I have picked songs already and even used some of the lyrics in writing Cora's story.
Cora Delving. Originally I had Sad But True, by Metallica running around in my head when she was newly formed and running around Vives... and borrowed from that when writing in a sea of black in her solace of the shadows thread.
Then when the #@%* hit the fan in regards to Johe.. (among other things), it was I Don't Believe in Love, by Queensrÿche... which is evident in the post ...never worth the pain that you feel (even used a line from it for the title) ...also in her thread
And now I think a new one is in order... though I have yet to pick one out. but it will likely find its way into another post (in some form or other) when I do.
[Edited to include obligatory lyrics ]
Sad But True
Hey I’m your life I’m the one who takes you there Hey I’m your life I’m the one who cares They They betray I’m your only true friend now They They’ll betray I’m forever there
I’m your dream, make you real I’m your eyes when you must steal I’m your pain when you can’t feel Sad but true
I’m your dream, mind astray I’m your eyes while you’re away I’m your pain while you repay You know it’s sad but true
You You’re my mask You’re my cover, my shelter You You’re my mask You’re the one who’s blamed Do Do my work Do my dirty work, scapegoat Do Do my deeds For you’re the one who’s shamed
I’m your dream, make you real I’m your eyes when you must steal I’m your pain when you can’t feel Sad but true
I’m your dream, mind astray I’m your eyes while you’re away I’m your pain while you repay You know it’s sad but true
Hate I’m your hate I’m your hate when you want love Pay Pay the price Pay, for nothing’s fair
Hey I’m your life I’m the one who took you here Hey I’m your life And I no longer care
I’m your dream, make you real I’m your eyes when you must steal I’m your pain when you can’t feel Sad but true
I’m your truth, telling lies I’m your reasoned alibis I’m inside open your eyes I’m you
Sad but true
I Don't Believe in Love (slightly altered when it comes to Cora's situation.. changing every "She" to "He" (Johe))
I awoke on impact Under surveillance from the camera eye Searching high and low The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime Handcuffed and blind, I didn’t do it She said she loved me I guess I never knew But do we ever, ever really know? She said she’d meet me on the other side But I knew right then, I’d never find her
I don’t believe in love I never have, I never will I don’t believe in love It’s never worth the pain that you feel
No more nightmares, I’ve seen them all From the day I was born, they’ve haunted my every move Every open hand’s there to push and shove No time for love it doesn’t matter She made a difference I guess she had a way Of making every night seem bright as day Now I walk in shadows, never see the light She must have lied ’cause she never said goodbye
I don’t believe in love I never have, I never will I don’t believe in love I’ll just pretend she never was real I don’t believe in lovev I need to forget her face, I see it still I don’t believe in love It’s never worth the pain that you feel
No chance for contact There’s no raison d’etre My only hope is one day I’ll forget The pain of knowing what can never be With or without love it’s all the same to me
I don’t believe in love I never have, I never will I don’t believe in love I’ll just pretend she never was real I don’t believe in love I need to forget her face, I see it still I don’t believe in love It’s never worth the pain that you feel |

Miramil doesn't have one.
Lillian has wayyy too many. Although Walk On by U2 does come to the forefront of the list:

Leave it behind, You've got to leave it behind |

Hmmm. Hard to say with Markus, but two songs come up on top. VNV Nation - Saviour(Vox) Give yourself unto your God. Sacrifice yourself again. Burn your thoughts erase your will to Gods of suffering and tears.
and VNV Nation - Legion(Anacharom)
Enveloped in a sentiment, a sound that rushes over me. Engage an impulse to pretend I have a faith as pure. Not forgetting what it means to dream. Indulging everything. Entertaining thoughts that I've the strength of those I yearn to be. Cheers and tribute greet the saviours. Reckless thoughts survive. Anachronistic and impulsive.
Bereil - it has to be... 1812 Overture, or Ord Fortuna. |

I could probably come up with a better one, but Criminal by Fiona Apple comes to mind.
(ETA: for Macha, of course.)
I've been a bad, bad girl I've been careless with a delicate man And it's a sad, sad world When a girl will break a boy just because she can
Don't you tell me to deny it I've done wrong and I want to suffer for my sins I've come to you 'cause I need guidance to be true And I just don't know where I can begin
What I need is a good defense 'Cause I'm feeling like a criminal And I need to be redeemed To the one I've sinned against Because he's all I ever knew of love
Heaven help me for the way I am Save me from these evil deeds before I get them done I know tomorrow brings the consequence at hand But I keep living this day like the next will never come
Oh help me but don't tell me to deny it I've got to cleanse myself of all these lies 'till I'm good enough for him I've got a lot to lose and I'm bettin' high so I'm begging you Before it ends just tell me where to begin
What I need is a good defense 'Cause I'm feeling like a criminal And I need to be redeemed To the one I've sinned against Because he's all I ever knew of love |

Raeburn has two songs, Insanity By Boingo, (Danny Elfman) and "Girl" By the Beatles. I listened to Insanity when I made him, on repeat (which I always hate doing) and I did the Same thing with "Girl" when I wrote his backstory, (I also surrounded myself with Lavender colors)
Daimon is probably something a lot more slinkier, bluesier, and probably a lot more powerful "When the Levee Breaks" has always been my "Suiting up and heading out" song of NWN, (Led Zeppelin) It's my "Going on a mining trip" song.
Addu's Song would be "Unas, Slayer of the Gods" By Nile, No question about it.
Gravis's Song would be "Black Pearl" by Black Label Society
Vulfar is definitely "Of Wolf and Man" By Metallica. A primal urge song about shapeshifting and wolves...
Kan's theme is definitely derived from the entire Evergrey Album "Inner Circle" I listened to it extensively when creating his image, his stats, his backstory.
Veran's Song would be Pride and Glory's "To'en the line"
Lysse's Song is definitely "The Dance of Maya" By the Mahavishnu Orchestra
And Rafe's song is, and has always been, Aerosmith's cover "I'm Ready"
Sywyn doesn't really have a song, and he doesn't have a screenshot either, or a forum backstory, stay tuned for all 3! |

Ulalume has a holy trinity of songs...
Her main one is Elton's John's "Believe"...
Churches and dictators, politics and papers, Everything crumbles sooner or later But love - I believe in love.
I believe in love, it's all we've got Love has no boundaries, no borders to cross Love is simple; hate breeds Those who think difference is the child of disease Fathers and sons make war and guns Families together kill someone Without love - I believe in love.
Without love, I wouldn't believe in anything that lives and breathes Without love, I have no anger; I wouldn't believe in the right to stand here Without love I wouldn't believe; I couldn't believe in you, and I wouldn't believe in me Without love - I believe in love.
In others, it's "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar.
When she's whooping up on stuff, it's the theme from Flash Gordon by Queen.

"Shut up and sleep with me" by Sin With Sebastian
Shut up and sleep with me Come on why don't you sleep with me
Shut up and sleep with me Come on uh huh and sleep with me(repeat 4X.)
I love your body Not so much I like your mind Infact you're boring Pretend not being of my kind You keep on talking of some girl I don't know When will you shut up and when will we go
You were young, you're free, Why don't you sleep with me?(repeat 1X)
Shut up and sleep with me Come on why don't you sleep with me
Shut up and sleep with me Come on uh huh and sleep with me(repeat 2X)
Shut up Shut up Shut up Shut up Shut up Shut up Shut up Shut up...up...up
Don't you listen to those old conventions No try to suppress your real intentions You're open minded, at least that's what you keep on sayin' Don't be afraid of doing what you're best at
Shut up and sleep with me Come on why don't you sleep with me
Shut up and sleep with me Come on uh huh and sleep with me(repeat 2X)
Shut up...
Shut up and sleep with me Come on why don't you sleep with me
Shut up and sleep with me Come on uh huh and sleep with me(repeat 6X, fade out.)

Well, first...a big confession. Yes, I'm a musician, and I do not listen to music when I play Vives.
BUT, if I were to listen to anything while playing, I think just about anything by Dead Can Dance would be perfect theme music for it.
As for specific character themes, I would have to go with Prokofiev's "Montagues and Capulets" for Willom's theme.
And, though he's mostly retired, I'd have to say that Bennigan's theme would have to be Pink Floyd's "Childhood's End" from Obscured By Clouds.
Oh, yes. The obligatory lyrics:
You shout in your sleep. Perhaps the price is just too steep. Is your conscience at rest if once put to the test? You awake with a start to just the beating of your heart. Just one man beneath the sky, Just two ears, just two eyes.
You set sail across the sea of longpast thoughts and memories. Childhood's end, Your fantasies merge with harsh realities. And then as the sail is hoist, You find your eyes are growing moist. All the fears never voiced say you have to make your final choice.
Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why? Some are born; Some men die beneath one infinite sky. There'll be war, there'll be peace. But everything one day will cease. All the iron turned to rust; All the proud men turned to dust. And so all things, time will mend. So this song will end.

Hadn't really thought about this before. Interesting question. Here goes:
Melina's song would be Metallica's "The Struggle Within" -
Reaching out for something you've got to feel while clutching at what you had thought was real
Iris' song would be Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam" -
And the earth becomes my home I adapt to the unkown Under wandering stars I've grown By myself, but not alone
Finally, Aimee would go by The Beastie Boys' "She's Crafty" -
D. pulled me over and said hide your gold The girl is crafty like ice is cold The girl is crafty - she knows all the moves I started playing records - she knew all the grooves He thought she was a thief and D. was right
Or something like that :) |
-Melina Danicelven-Songsinger, Fighter-Druid Life is pain, you just get used to it.
-Aimee Victory, Rogue Be excellent to each other.
-Iris Tammarack, Ranger I'd have been here sooner, but I was busy coming up with that ham on rye line. |

Well I don't listen to music either when playing, ok, I do but rarely. However if I were to pick a theme tune for Moon, it would be 'The Streets Of london' by Ralph McTell. Dunno why, guess moon is kind'a lonely away from her clan...but mainly because I like it, and what I like they are stuck with!
Have you seen the old man In the closed-down market Kicking up the paper, with his worn out shoes? In his eyes you see no pride And held loosely at his side Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news
So how can you tell me you're lonely, And say for you that the sun don't shine? Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind
Have you seen the old girl Who walks the streets of London Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags? She's no time for talking, She just keeps right on walking Carrying her home in two carrier bags.
Chorus
In the all night cafe At a quarter past eleven, Same old man is sitting there on his own Looking at the world Over the rim of his tea-cup, Each tea last an hour Then he wanders home alone
Chorus
And have you seen the old man Outside the seaman's mission Memory fading with The medal ribbons that he wears. In our winter city, The rain cries a little pity For one more forgotten hero And a world that doesn't care
Chorus |

Gah! No one has ever even heard of that song!
Heh. A long, long time ago, Johe and I made these soundtrack tapes to our lives (We were, like twenty years old, and we thought we deserved three-tape long soundtracks to our lives!!!--boy, I miss being twenty again!), and Childhood's End was always my favorite song in mine.
Actually, an early idea for the band name was "Mud Men".
What is it, actually, about that little period of Floyd when Barrett had just left and Gilmoure had just come in? Albums like Obscured and Meddle--Ah, Meddle! Another fantastic album--they had this strange quality that I can't put my finger on but I think I like them more than most of their golden age stuff! |

Re: What's Your Character's Theme Song? Posted: 27 Jan 2006 07:55 AM |
Somebody here posted a link to The World of Adam, an animated short for the Antony and the Johnsons song "The Lake". That's the only tune I put together with anybody, and its Vrodo's song. Actually I downloaded a ton of stuff from that band and all of it is Vrodo, because he's basically still a nine year old boy between his ears and doesn't know how to deal with his emotions (he frequently just runs away and hides).
Antony & the Johnsons just conjures that for me...don't know why.
I don't have music for anyone else, and I don't usually listen to music while I play. I actually just like the sound-stage noises that the game makes. |

"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"

Re: What's Your Character's Theme Song? Posted: 27 Jan 2006 02:11 PM |
A couple of songs have always seemed to embody how I felt about my main char.
When Coruva is out wandering
Me and the Eagle - Steve Earle
The eagle looked down on the river below He wrapped his wings round him and he fell like a stone And the big salmon fought but the talons held true Shuddered as the world turned from silver to blue I stood there in awe though I'd seen it before I was born in these mountains and I'll die here for sure
I've traveled around I've seen city lights But nothin' that shined like the big sky at night
Some mornings will find me up above the timberline Lonesome don't seem like much once you're this high When it's all said and done I usually find Me and the eagle are of the same mind
Now when I was young I took me a wife But she never took to the high country life So now I'm alone I don't really mind But her name echoes down from the canyon sometimes
In my dreams there's a horse, he stands eighteen hands high He's as white as the snow and there's fire in his eyes And he'll bare only me though others have tried And together we'll travel up across the divide
A stance on life and his faith
Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Mama told me when I was young Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say. And if you do this It will help you some sunny day. Take your time... don’t live too fast, Troubles will come and they will pass. Go find a woman and you’ll find love, And don’t forget son, There is someone up above.
And be a simple kind of man. Be something you love and understand. Be a simple kind of man. Won’t you do this for me son, If you can?
Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold All that you need is in your soul, And you can do this if you try. All that I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied.
Now for something different: What I think of when I see certain characters in game.
Vidus Kain - Leper Messiah by Metallica (Sorry..couldn't resist)
Blanche - I Still Haven't Found What Im Looking For - U2
Jessup - Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones or Janes Addiction....yes...I think he is the devil ;) |

Regards the ingame music..... AAAAAAAGH Ive so often thought that the best mod for the game would be to put some decent atmospheric tunes into it. Check out Treasure by the cocteau twins . It IS Feiren. And the Pogues make the greatest tavern music in the world.
