| 1. | Re: A plot without war. Posted by Lunariia on 3/26/2004 4:46:06 AM I think it's a fantastic idea - Sharra would be interested in participating either in Acting, or in Writing. Or possibly both :). |
| 2. | Re: Player Housing Posted by Lunariia on 3/27/2004 12:57:49 PM Wow, this'd be great. I'll be more active once my finals are over as well :D
Character: Sharra P'taliel Race: human Class: Bard
Sharra was born in Port Royale, but made her way to Midor to try and find out more about the world. She's become pretty well known for the song she brought with her, and as a somewhat less obtrusive member of the Azure Lights when they were active. Intensely interested in anything musical, but also a very private person. She mediates ... |
| 3. | Play for the Plot without war - Bardic Inspiration Posted by Lunariia on 3/28/2004 12:59:22 PM Right, since i've dubbed today my last day of holiday before I settle my nose firmly to the grindstone, I was intending to come up with some ideas, perhaps even the basis of a script for the play which we're hoping to get together. (See the plot without war thread for more details.) If anyone else would like to contribute, or feels that they've got ideas which are in more of a clear state than mine for Sharra, please PM me and we can get something off the ground ... |
| 4. | Transparency and accountability. Posted by Lunariia on 3/25/2004 2:03:41 PM This is something I was thinking about, and is not meant to be directed at anyone, or intended to offend, it's simply to provoke discussion. being a DM here must be a hell of a job, and to be perfectly honest, I really don't envy anyone who takes it on!
How far are the DM's accountable?
There have been a number of problems in the community recently, which have cropped up for a whole variety of reasons. I don't want to go into them but they are all serious ... |
| 5. | Re: Transparency and accountability. Posted by Lunariia on 3/25/2004 7:06:09 PM Thanks for all the points of view.
Personally I feel very much indebted to all the DM's and worldbuilders for the consistant efforts they make, so I'm glad that people have responded in the spirit that I first wrote the post. I was really thinking of the issue not just from the Vives perspective, but trying to get people's opinions on it in general. And I hope I didn't come across as trying to take the DM's to task, I was intending to start up a discussion, which it seems to have ... |
| 6. | Re: How not to make Oatmeal Posted by Lunariia on 3/25/2004 7:38:21 PM My Dad took a Malaysian cookery course a few years ago, and prepared some gorgeous morrocan lamb, which we all enjoyed.
However, he then decided to venture into the world of desserts...
True to my Dad's style, everything was meticulously weighed out, and the apricot tart was going to be a masterpiece. (glazing and everything;) ) Once cooked, he proceeded to carefully remove the tart from the oven. Which would have been fine... except for the fact that he'd ... |
| 7. | Re: IMPORTANT: Stuff! :D Posted by Lunariia on 3/17/2004 6:58:09 PM Hmm, okay I think most things I think are wrong with Vives are simply a matter of me not being on here enough. However, there are some concrete things.
I know everyone knows I have a gripe with the transport system, but I'll put it down here to help you consolidate.
1) Transport.
2) Low level help
I think it'd be enormously helpful to offer some more aid to people starting out. It's hard to orientate yourself when you first arrive. Perhaps a ... |
| 8. | Re: Bloody annoyed Posted by Lunariia on 3/19/2004 2:03:03 PM Seconded wholeheartedly.
One of my MAJOR gripes with stuff like this - We come here to PLAY and feel like our characters can accomplish grand and wonderful things. - Things that are impossible in real life.
You just can't do that when you're worrying about badgers!
If life is so difficult that it's impossible for characters to accompish anything without months and months of hard slog, that's NOT a satisfying experience. |
| 9. | Journey's End Posted by Lunariia on 3/19/2004 3:10:14 PM As the rain thundered down around her, Sharra stood looking over the spot where the Azure Lights headquarters had once stood. She ran a hand over the bundle under her arm, wrapped in tightly to reassure herself that her precious harp was still safe.
"Sharra? Are you ready?"
Suddenly aware of the cold and rain, she turned to see her sister standing a short way behind her.
"Yes, just... give me a moment."
Taking a piece of ... |
| 10. | Re: Important! - HoTU's PrCs! Posted by Lunariia on 1/5/2004 3:11:32 PM Um... perhaps I'm taking this the wrong way... but...
Why?
I can understand limiting stuff like unusual races etc. But it strikes me that someone who wants to play a prestige class, and has the prerequisites has earned the righ to play that class.
I left a previous server because it got so bogged down in rules and regulations that I felt like I was back at school, and I was having to abide by unneccesary protocols set down by people who, as a rule, were younger ... |
| 11. | Re: Important! - HoTU's PrCs! Posted by Lunariia on 1/5/2004 3:59:32 PM Okay, that makes sense.
Hopefully we wont have hundreds of Red Dragon Disciples ;)
The main reason I was concerned was that I have plans to take some levels in Harperscout with a character of mine, and I was worried that I would't be able to.
But given that the DM's seem to be being reasonble, I'm hoping that when i'm ready to submit my request, it'll be okay. |
| 12. | Re: Bard meetings... Posted by Lunariia on 3/11/2004 8:32:39 PM Em... the problem is that Sharra can't afford to get to Port Royale, and she can't walk there because she'll die so many times that it'll wipe out all the XP I've gained since I got here >_<;. I shall do my best, but I may well not make it.
I can never remember how to convert EST to GMT, if someone would enlighten me, I'd be very greatful. ;) |
| 13. | Bard meetings... Posted by Lunariia on 2/25/2004 3:44:00 PM If anyone who has a Bard character is interested in the meeting mentioned in the "Call to bards" thread - could they please post in this thread and indicate when is best for them to hold the meeting. |
| 14. | Re: IMPORTANT: New travel system Posted by Lunariia on 2/28/2004 8:38:37 AM Yep, I'd say that this could be the single biggest thing to make new people leave the server within five minutes of joining it. I very nearly did the same thing myself, the only reason I didn't leave was because I knew Phoenix_F who helped me out.
As someone who is still low level with approximately 20 gold at the moment, this is not a workable system at all.
It would be alright if the starting point of the module was in a sensible place, but unfortunately it's in the ... |
| 15. | Re: IMPORTANT: New travel system Posted by Lunariia on 2/28/2004 5:01:47 PM I really cannot stress enough how difficult this system is making things. And a price change of 50gp less is not going to solve the problem.
I think you need to trust people to roleplay out the travel system, by all means leave something of a gap between boats but nothing LIKE half an hour real time, and leave the price at around 10-50gp.
As a low level character, it's now pretty well impossible to get from Midor to Port Royale without loosing experience and gold. It's ... |
| 16. | Re: IMPORTANT: New travel system Posted by Lunariia on 3/13/2004 4:33:01 PM *cries* I'm stuck in Ferein because of this system. I'm not really free a lot of the time, so I don't get much time to play. Having ascertained that I could not afford the boat, I did try and make a break for it. Unfortunately, after dying twice, I felt that perhaps this was not the best approach. I did try and get out of it by roleplaying Sharra writing some new songs. Eventually I got desperate, I'd been waiting for about an hour real-time, and PM'ed a fellow player to come and help me ... |
| 17. | Re: IMPORTANT: New travel system Posted by Lunariia on 3/14/2004 4:59:45 AM Ferein is indeed beautiful and, as I mentioned in my post, I spent around an hour there in real time before I got desperate enough to do a little bit of meta-gaming to try and help me out.
However, it's not just the wait that's the problem. I don't even have 20gp to my name (especially not with dying every five minutes). Whilst I appreciate having something to remind me of the feel of the distance you have to travel from Ferein to Port Royale or Midor, to be stuck in an area ... |
| 18. | Re: A Call to Bards Posted by Lunariia on 2/25/2004 3:18:51 PM A note in neat, sloping handwriting left with the Inkeep at the Unicorn
Macha,
I saw your parchment in the Inn. It would be a pleasure to meet a fellow bard. Perhaps we could arrange a convienient time for everyone?
With fellowship and music.

| 19. | Re: Immunity items: Out of control? Posted by Lunariia on 3/1/2004 3:48:58 PM Hmm, tricky subject this one.
Balancing mages and fighters has always been a huge bane of contention and I guess both will always feel kind of hard done by.
One valid point that's been made in this discussion is the fact that having items with a status permanently cast on it does devalue the spell somewhat. Especially light. Many server I've been on have banned minor items with light on them for that reason.
I do think that care needs to be taken, but as far ... |
| 20. | Giving the DM's a break Posted by Lunariia on 2/25/2004 3:30:13 PM This is something that I've been recently thinking a lot about. I know there have been issues recently with players being unhappy with one another - having issues with one thing and another. I know at least one DM who's unhappy - because of constant bombardment while trying to enjoy the game. So please, Spare a thought for them while playing :)
As far as I'm aware of the general precedure, you should contact Alosynth if you feel that there is a problem with a player, or ... |
| 21. | a piece of parchment Posted by Lunariia on 2/25/2004 8:11:03 PM A bright, sunshine soaked afternoon is shimmering over Midor, and a young woman sits with ink and parchment, the contents of her bag are strewn around her. A frown of intense concentration on her face. She writes with a flowing script and a practised hand.
"Can you feel the call of justice, as it pulls you to the stage? Can you smite the cause of evil? Can you dance the dance of blades?
The dance is long, your feet may tire, but the ... |
| 22. | Re: Player Handbook: Your Path to Stardom! Posted by Lunariia on 2/7/2004 5:03:06 PM This sounds like a great idea...
BUT... (there's always a but ;))
It could lead to problems and resentment. If there are players whose biographies don't get included, it may lead to a feeling that their character is not important enough to the world to be included. This is a feeling I suffered from a lot on previous servers. Particularly servers where the DM's were not adept at helping new characters interract with the world - which is not something that I've ... |
| 23. | The Aftermath... Posted by Lunariia on 1/8/2004 7:38:55 PM Sharra sat in bed, and stared at the soft candlelight. Confused thoughts still raced around her head. Images flashed in front of her eyes. Loli - poised to throw the first stone at Keimaini. The terrifying instant when she saw the red haze flash through Shaz'jen's eyes.
She ran a hand over the bandages around her chest and winced. The wounds were still raw and deep, unlikely to heal easily. Her mind replayed - over and over again, the moment where she had faced him on ... |
| 24. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Lunariia on 11/11/2003 11:19:21 AM Yes! Pretty please wait until us poor UK dwellers have managed to get our hands on it ! ;)
I'm really looking forward to Hordes of the Underdark :) |
| 25. | Re: HOTU Release Date Posted by Lunariia on 11/13/2003 12:48:50 PM I'm not sure what's going on. There are two different release dates, one on the UK amazon website, and one on the US one.
Having seen that Amazon tend to be a little overenthusiastic when it comes to release dates, I'd go with the 4th of December as being the more likely ;) |
