a piece of parchment

A bright, sunshine soaked afternoon is shimmering over Midor, and a young woman sits with ink and parchment, the contents of her bag are strewn around her. A frown of intense concentration on her face. She writes with a flowing script and a practised hand.

"Can you feel the call of justice,
as it pulls you to the stage?
Can you smite the cause of evil?
Can you dance the dance of blades?

The dance is long, your feet may tire,
but the music always plays.
The song of evil never wanes,
and it's good that fights to stay.

Silent peace is never ours,
the scene is always set.
I do not fight to win the day,
I fight to not regret.

That's the call of justice,
that pulls us to the stage.
Give's us courage to light the dark.
To dance the dance of blades."

She sits for a few minutes more, looking up at the cloud patterns in the sky. Picking up the quill yet again, she adds

The last few weeks have been hard. To understand what has happened to me,and to the people i've met here has not been... comfortable. As a bard I'm expected to express myself through music. And I do... quite frequently.

If you've found this parchment, add to it... let something of everyone who finds this page leave it's mark.

The woman looks at the sheet thoughtfully. Digging through the bag lying beside her, she finds a piece of waterproof, oiled skin. She folds the parchment and wraps it tightly in the skin, securing the bundle with twine. Packing up her bag, she slings it over her shoulder.

As she walks towards midor, she tosses the packet behind her, into a fast flowing stream. It can float where it may.

Kneeling for a drink from the stream, the warrior-bard woman's sharp eyes saw the floating packet and she snatched it before it could pass out of reach. She carried it over to a tree and sat down in the shade. Drying the packet first on an old rag, she opened the oilskin carefully and unfolded the parchment. She read it over carefully once, then again. She sat back against the tree and thought for a while. Reaching into her pack, she dug out a sharp bit of charcoal and added some lines in a crude, angular, but legible Common printing.

Picks cut ore
and hammers pound.
Weapons, armor,
shields abound.

Strings on slender
sticks of wood.
Arrows flying,
strike for good.

Knives in sunlight,
traps in dark.
Tiny bootheels
leave no mark.

Hearts we follow,
as we should.
The land our mother,
we fight for good.

She then carefully refolded the parchment, wrapped it tightly in the oilskins, and re-tied the twine around it. She gently floated it onto the water of the stream, and watched as it bobbed along around a bend and out of sight.

Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset.
