Your Favourite Xmas Songs Posted: 08 Dec 2006 09:55 AM |
Well, here in Canada, my ears are being assaulted by the sounds of jingles, sleighbells and fat blokes in red suits.... Got me wondering though, what's your favourite Xmas song? :)
Mine would have to be The Fairytale of New York by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl, because I'm a miserable git :)
What's yours? :)

All my favourite Christmas songs are extraordinarily vulgar, offensive, or dirty.
However, I've always been partial to "Here We Come A-Caroling." |

I do like a little Peter and the Wolf on Christmas Eve.
And Fairytale of New York is splendid, one of my favorites. |

"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"

Song Lyrics
Bob: Ok, on the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. beer.
On the 2nd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... 2 turtlenecks, and beer.
On the 3rd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer. There should be more there, eh?
Where?
On the 4th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. 4lbs of backbacon, 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer in a tree.
Oh. See? ya need more.
On the 5th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. 5 GOLDEN TOQUES! 4lbs of backbacon, 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer in a tree.
On the 6th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. 6 packs of two-four. 5 GOLDEN TOQUES! 4lbs of backbacon, 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer in a tree.
Ok.
On the 7th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. 7 packs of smokes, 6 packs of two-four, 5 GOLDEN TOQUES! 4lbs of backbacon, 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer in a tree.
oh, i keep forgettin'.
whew, this should be just the 2 days of xmas, this is too hard for us!
On the 8th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.. 8 comic books, 7 packs of smokes, 6 packs of two-four, 5 GOLDEN TOQUES! 4lbs of backbacon, 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer in a tree.
Wow,That beers empty
Day 12.
G'day and welcome to day 12.
Yeah.
5 GOLDEN TOQUES! 4lbs of backbacon, 3 french toast, 2 turtlenecks, and beer in a tre-e.
Where did you learn to do that?
Uh, Albums.
Boy, so thats our song merry Christmas, and g'day.
G'day everybody. Happy new years.
Ok, ya know what ya left out?
What?
Donuts. I told you to get me donuts.
Oh no!
Either on the 9th day, or the 10th day or the 11th day. I wanted donuts.
The song is over merry Christmas everybody, or the 12th you coulda gotten me a dozen donuts.
Go to the stores and get some presents. You coulda gone down to the donut shop where you buy a dozen donuts, you get another donut free. Then it coulda been 13 for the 13 days of Christmas.
Next Christmas, get me a chainsaw.
Take off!
Boy that song was a beauty.. it moved me.
Yah , it ranks up there with stairway to heaven.

The "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen" and "We Three Kings" medley done by Barenaked Ladies for a Denver radio station live broadcast in 1999. Absolutely spectacular.
Also worth mentioning are John Lennon's "Happy X-Mas", Elton John's "Step Into Christmas" and "Baby It's Cold Outside".
I'm also a total sucker for the traditional French carol "Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella."
Happy Holidays, everyone!

Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby standards. And ... Burl Ives from any of the claymation Rudolph TRNR movies. Leon Redbone perhaps as well (if I'm all liquored up on egg nog), but Burl did it first and better. Ronnie Spector, I think before she was Mrs. Spector - and had the Ronettes backing her - was pretty good with I Saw Mommie Kissing Santa Claus... odd theme, but then again Ronnie Spector was pretty odd.
When I'm in the mood for something from this millenia, there is Trans-Siberian Orchestra who redid most of the classics I enjoy.
*sings* Have a holly, jolly Christmas. It's the best time of the year.
P.S. Bob & Doug albums from when a) there were albums, and b) they were still on SCTV were great. I've got the 12 days of Christmas lyrics still memorized. |

A Christmas Song, by the Chipmunks. Definately... I used to listen to it in my childhood.
On a more personnal and french note, "C'est Nowël" from Paul and Paul. A french parody song that my dad used to sing. And nope, I still can't hear it, but I remember it. :)
Peace all,

My dad just used to repeat the first two lines of "Oh Christmas Tree" over and over, and then go on with the da-da-das...
Trimmed the tree last night to a Louis Armstrong compilation that included the song "A Kiss to Build a Dream On", making me nostalgic about the holidays and also about playing Fallout. |

heh, I've never been a huge fan of Chirstmas music, but if I'm forced to listen to it, I'd prefer something along the lines of Trans-Siberian Orchestra... and Xerah, thanks for the reminder of the Mckenzie brothers' 12 days of Christmas... a classic. Breath Of Heaven, by Amy Grant is an awesome song... that one stands out as a "favorite Chirstmas song" I guess.
And my wife just bought Sarah McLachlan - Wintersong... I'm really enjoying that (she has such a great voice, I love most anything she does) |
