Face (via photo) Recognition Posted: 23 Dec 2005 07:36 PM |
Found a fun website: myheritage.com
You can upload a picture of yourself, and then the website will pick out your face from the photograph and tell you which famous person you resemble most.
In my case, my highest match was a 71% with Charlize Theron -- which is hella cool. :-)
Try it! I've tried it with several people I know in RL, and I've found the higher percentage matches to be quite accurate when it comes to similar facial features. A frontal picture works best, obviously, because then your face can be "analysed" best. |

Barnas is a girl! We have proof!
I got something like 60% with John Travola, but it wasn't a very good picture. I'll have to try again when I get a better one. But that site is really cool! |

I got.. 66% Cesar Franck, a german composer in the 1800's who I never knew of until today. He doesn't look like me.. I'd never have such outrageous sideburns, or comb my hair like that. Honorable mentions are: Charlie Sheen, Vivicia Leigh, and Greg Louganis. (not in that order) This has been very educational. |

72% Meg Ryan, 69% Jennifer Aniston...
o.O
No comment to either, just... O.o
On an amusing note, Boy was 82% Keira Knightly and 73% Kevin Smith... and if a combination of those two could be imagined, it /would/ look rather like him.

68% with Jason Biggs? Now I find that interesting. I'm blonde with grey eyes, and honestly don't see much resemblance ...
Could be worse. Could be Julia Roberts. ;) |

Re: Face (via photo) Recognition Posted: 23 Jan 2006 10:27 AM |
after initially using the site and being amused, I thought i'd continue the madness and upload a picture (or 7) of everyone in my entire family. Well...one and a half hours later, at three in the morning, I concluded that the pictures seem to recognize the particular pose or facial direction and other dominant features such as glasses or sunglasses, which might cause a resemblance to people with deep eye-sockets to occur. My wife always fusses at me because of my inability to just enjoy. My oft refusal to suspend my disbelief. But...in all honesty, my bitterness might just be due to the fact that I wasn't given a match out of all the pictures to Keanu Reeves once. Or even that nerd from friends, Ross.
I don't like that show, by the way.

Re: Face (via photo) Recognition Posted: 24 Jan 2006 12:19 PM |
Hmm, interesting. I tried a picture of me with barely any makeup on and hair on a ponytail, and I got mostly male hits (Christian Slater was the first face they threw at me, I think it was around 60%). Then I put on some makeup, opened my hair and started smiling, and hey presto! Winona Ryder 70 %, and no male hits at all.
Even more interesting is that it actually gives different results for the same picture. I tried the one which the program thought looked like Christian Slater, and now the best resemblance had changed into Mira Sorvino. |

Re: Face (via photo) Recognition Posted: 24 Jan 2006 01:11 PM |
I was pretty skeptical about how well this thing could work, so I did a quick (and definitely not entirely rigorous) test.
I went to entertainment weekly, and grabbed the pics of Reese Witherspoon and George Clooney from the Golden Globes. Then I uploaded those photos to see if the software could pick them correctly.
It blew it on Reese, picking: Virginia Mayo, Penelope Cruz, Hillary Swank, Deborah Kerr, Maria Callas, Christina Ricci, Mira Sorvino, Julia Roberts, Naomi Watts, and Romy Scneider. (all between 65% to 71%)
Some of these people look nothing like each other, let alone Reese Witherspoon, so I was at a loss for how it was making it's choices.
Next, I loaded George Clooney. It's first pick - George Clooney (71%). I was impressed.
Like I said, not scientific... but pretty eerie to see it guess George right. |

| Haha, I thought about trying that, now I don't have to :D. I think Do'taloc was right, it recognises poses and facial directions. If you upload a picture with a smiling face in it, that's what the results are like, too. |
