ModUpdate: Death & Bleeding

0.72b have bleeding implemented. From 0 to -10 HP your character is simply knockout, and her HP decrements at (ConModifier + 1) x 6 seconds intervals, with no stabilizing possibilities. Examples follow...

Someone with 18 Con (+4 modifier) would take 30 seconds for each HP loss; someone with 10 Con (0 modifier) would take 6 seconds for each HP loss.

There's also some in-process work for starting new characters... my advice is don't start one now *winks*

Characters who have their ConModifier reduced past -1 assumed to have 0?

*confused*

" ... with no stabilizing possiblities."

.

I thought the point of bleeding rules was to allow someone to stablize the vicitim with heals. Am I missing something here?

Well, come in game, let me stab you to death then we can 'test' it, ok? :P

Your right about the whole bleeding timeframe giving parties a chance to heal their members.

I think she meant "natural stabilization".

I also took it as meaning no chance for a natural stabilisation.

Being healed (or even regeneration hopefully) would fix you up.

In most bleeding/dying systems there is a % chance each round that your character "stabilizes" on his own...meaning the HP drop stops, as your character has somehow managed to stop the bleeding on his own. This is simply not an option in this setup, that is all. when you are reduced to 0 HP, you will (as aria described) slowly be reduced to -10 HP. In the meantime, party members can 'raise' you by using heal packs or healing spells, which would raise you back above 0 HP. However, once you reach -10. you're dead, and a raise dead/resurrection is necessary.

Hope this clears it up.

*Aria stares at Gwindor in wide-eyed wonder* No, there's not a chance to recovery while bleeding. It's just meant to prolong your suffring :P

Ok, enough kidding. Gwindor was completely correct, and my rationale is that given half a minute to 2 minute's timeframe your companion (if present) should have had adequate time to help out (natural stabilization is not necessary); if you're on your own, natural stabilization merely adds to the amount of downtime you have. Having been in another module which have bleeding/natural stabilization and watched the stars for 25-30 minutes (2 stabilizations) I'm not sure that's necessary... BTW, how's -our- system working?

Regeneration would presumably help if and only if you bled less often than once every round (ConModifier +2, 1.5 rounds per HP loss).

Characters have a minimum bleeding time of 3 seconds (i.e., the worse that can happen is a HP loss every 1/2 round)

Thanks Aria for clearing it up.

"with no NATURAL stabilization"

The way you describe the system, it will be a great motivation for getting a party together. Sounds great!

I look forward to trying it out ... hmm, at least I think I am ... depends if I'm doing the healing or receiving the healing, hehe.

Well, I got killed last night and did not bleed at all. I went straight to dead. I did, however, watch Ellanesse bleed out, so it seems to work.

This to me brings another nwn flaw to light. I think the reason I did not bleed is that I was dropped below -11 hp with the kill shot. This to me is unreasonable, as how can you take more HP damage than what kills you? I've always thought death should drop you to 0hp, not into the negatives. I can say that every time I've logged out while dead, I always come back in at -11hp, even before bleeding was in.

I still think it's pretty cool though. Keep it up!

Well, 2 things:

1) The code was a bit skewed in last night's version of the mod, so you prolly bled out faster than intended. This is fixed in v72c.

2) If a dragon chomps you in two, i don't see you dropping to 0 HP which equates to 'unconcious'. If you get hit and you're at -43HP, then so long dead guy -- can I have your old stereo then if you're not going to be using it? :)

Have to agree with Noggin that this system will only add to the motivation to party.

I have really missed the bleeding system in a lot of the last mods I have played. I think this adds something great.
