1.Re: Help for Newcomers

Do you really need to chop down an entire tree to woodcraft?

It seems to me you could "harvest" wood from trees to make things such as arrows, bows, staves.

This would easily fit into the druid mindset.

but it is something if you wanna woodcraft...

So what would be good "roleplaying" crafts for a druid character? Certainly not many would tinker, smelt, weaponsmith, armorsmith, tailor (killing animals). Seems druids, like anyone else should have a viable roleplaying opportunity to participate in craft skills. Or would druids everywhere rely on other people for all their goods and never take up a craft skill?

Just curious what you guys think.

4.Hello from the great beyond!

Hi all!

Perhaps some of you have wondered recently what has become of the famous artist Pokeundi, so I thought I'd pop in and give you an update. Pokeundi, and his real life wife (yes, poke is a boy in disguise), just had a baby about 2 weeks ago. We got super lucky and now have a healthy, beautiful, 7 pound (nearly 8 now) boy! He's wonderful, and Poke is having a lot of fun hanging out with his new family member. So, as you can all imagine, life is busy for poke, full of work, ...

7.Re: Scheduled DM events
Posted by Pokeundi on 9/17/2003 8:37:35 PM
Yes, this appeals to me.

I've basically been playing less and less due to lack of dm's around. I know some pop in from time to time, but I never really know if one is going to be on, and it seems like more often than not, I end up chatting with other players, hoping that our little plot lines will garner some attention and be developed further than we can take them as players. I know this will motivate me to play a bit more if I know for certain there will be a dm online. Heck, I ...

I'm not sure how the dm's feel about this, but one thing I would enjoy being able to see is how many dm's are currently in game. Perhaps on the server status here on the website it could list the players that are in game then just say "dm's in game: 1, or 2, or whatever" it doesn't have to say which ones, or where they are. I know I always check the server status before I go in game to see if anyone is in game. If there are only a couple people, I will often elect to do something ...

Along these lines, any chance we could get basic empty flasks available for purchase for alchemy? Or is it designed such that you want any alchemist to take up (tinkering?) first before they can make potions. Seems like any apothecary would have flasks for sale.

i vote leave that off by default.

13.Re: Player Information Widget
Posted by Pokeundi on 9/2/2003 12:00:10 PM
Not sure how others feel about this, but I personally would like players to be displayed by default. A number of people never use the widget, and since the new defaults have been implemented, there is almost always zero players displayed.

There could be a logical explanation for this: A players location could easily be divined in most cases by asking the local populace until you finally "bumped" into them. But if a player so wishes (using the widget to make their ...
14.Re: xp system
Posted by Pokeundi on 8/23/2003 3:49:59 PM
I think a possible solution to mages getting to much xp per spell cast is to increase the amount of time required between rests. I see all to often, mages blasting through there alotted spells, then taking a quick rest, and five minutes later repeating it. I played on one server where the rest time was nearly 2 hours real time between rests. This made mages strategize their spellcasting a bit more, and in my opinion seemed a bit more realistic. I mean, come on, nobody should be allowed to ...
15.Re: Tailoring Clothes?

more about tailoring....

I have reached level 5 or 6 in tailoring, and with my current dex and int levels most cotton/leather work is trivial for me. so the only thing I can make is the "special" items which require the pelts of more rare animals, namely: crag cats, worgs, white wolves, white stags, malar panthers and grizzly bears. Of these animals:

Crag cats: I know of three zones these spawn in. ONe has two that never drop a skinnable corpse. ONe has ...

To be able to craft dresses, outfits, and other visible clothing from the tailoring skill. Is there any way to add this into the crafting system?

Thanks for all your great work,

Posted by Pokeundi on 9/29/2003 2:01:05 AM
I've always felt that gem crafting was a far too easy way to gain a large amount of xp. I hope that something is done to make it more in line with the other trade skills in tems of the ease of xp gain.

19.Money in Vives
Posted by Pokeundi on 8/18/2003 4:45:12 AM
I am noticing that it seems that a number of people have a lot of money. I don't have a lot, but i have never been 'short' on coins. Of course, after you buy your initial weapon, armor and a few items of clothing, is there really anything for you to spend your money on? I'm kinda getting the feeling that right now, money has little to zero impact on gameplay. I'm not sure if this is intended, or just a side effect of the majority of the efforts going into other areas of production. In any ...
20.healing kits
Posted by Pokeundi on 9/4/2003 1:15:58 PM
Any chance we can make it so using your healing kits actually checks your healing skill and heals accordingly?

I have a zero healing skill, but can heal nearly 30hps with a kit, in less casting time than any of my heal spells. Now that healing kits are readily available at a merchant I wonder if healing spells will become obsolete.

21.Re: healing kits
Posted by Pokeundi on 9/5/2003 5:53:17 PM
hmm.. maybe there is a roll, but it seems like I remember it being vs. dc 0. In either case, with zero healing skill, i can heal at minimum it seems over 20hps every time.

One possibility I was thinking is only allowing healing kits to be used in non combat situations. It seems that applying bandages, etc to heal wounds during combat would be next to impossible, somewhat akin to not being able to change armor in combat. This would put some reliance on magic, either potions, or ...
22.Re: Of all the places to draw an idea from
Posted by Pokeundi on 9/19/2003 5:04:14 PM
Another world I played on dealt with death in this fashion:

upon dying, you were sent to another zone, and a lootable corpse was left in your place. In your current zone was an npc (the goddess of death or something or other). If you talked to her, you had the option of her bringing you back to life for a small portion of your soul (xp loss), or staying with her in the plane.

So, either you chilled in the death plane, while your friends carried you back to a healer to ...

Posted by Pokeundi on 9/19/2003 7:45:57 PM
i didn't mean lootable corpse in that you can loot that players items, only that you can pick up their corpse as "loot" into your inventory to carry to wherever.

as for waiting, nobody will force anyone to wait longer than they themselves choose to.

as for metagaming... well, that is a problem, unless you can make it so that while in the "fugue" plane the player can not send tells to other players, only to dm's or something.

24.Re: Expectations
Posted by Pokeundi on 9/11/2003 4:14:24 PM
Along the lines of permanent death:

I kinda like the idea, harsh as it is, but a few things could go a long way to make it an enjoyable element for all:

1: when a character reaches below zero hps, no matter how negative (i.e. 20hp player takes 50hps from dragon breath), they go instantly to negative 1, and bleed at the rate of 1 per round until stabalized.

2: stabalization occurs either one of two ways, or both, depending on what the communitiy likes: either ...
