Non-Magical Items..... Rare? Posted: 11 Sep 2003 02:40 PM |
I am (still) the newest user in Vives so I figured I might as well post something I have noticed as a possibly overwhelming mistake. In all my travels thus far, as short as those travels have been I have not been able to despite hours of looking to find very many of the illusive Non-magical... plain ordinary run of the mill items. Sure they exist, but they are far outweighted by the magic items that seem to overrun every shop and cost a pretty penny.
I have yet to see any *darts* of anykind or any nonmagic: arrows sling bullets crossbow bolts
I suppose this is more ammo than anything else, rather than the weapons themselves but for those not inclinded to melee this seems a bit restrictive. Suppose I could level and get to the point where I could afford those other things but I am a very slow leveler. Now I may be wrong and these things may exist *somewhere* but the rarity of them compared to their magical counterpoints is rather off it seems. |

| If you are who I think you are, Loli tried to give your character 99 ordinary bullets but you left the game just as she was offering them to him. I don't know where to buy the non-magical missiles, because I am using what I have found. You might try the bowsmith shops. |
Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset. PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence. |

he non-appearance of non-magical arrows etc (stackables in the main) is due to a resref issue with our persistent merchants I -think-
One solution might well be to editcopy and create some "new" non-magical ones in the toolset for the next update..... or if that doesn't work I'll add in some dialogue driven merchants selling the basics in missiles etc (this Weekend).
Cheers!

In actuality, very minor magic items, as well as some of the non-magical items are IN the game, just not sold by any merchants. I can assure you as we tweak CNR (for the crafting of such items) and MANY more merchants all over the place, each specialized or generalized as their trade exacts, that these things will not only be available to be bought, but things such as darts/throwing axes/bullets will become more common.
I know myself made about 100+ items that are minor-medium magical items (Level 4-8), just not being sold ATM. So they are there, just the way they are being given to PC's is being tweaked ATM as more merchants/quests/dm involvement are being fine-tuned

| I think this is a good point, and though I know Aria has worked hard to get her Merchants working properly, the ones in game either have not had their stock updated, or are still having slight problems. Perhaps until that is straigtened out, there could be a merchant that sells basic ammunition using text based menu's, like the NPC that sells the healing kits, and also one or two others for the basic weapons and armour's. |

Along these lines, any chance we could get basic empty flasks available for purchase for alchemy? Or is it designed such that you want any alchemist to take up (tinkering?) first before they can make potions. Seems like any apothecary would have flasks for sale.

| I'd go along with this. Perhaps even have them at 10gp each rather than just 1, so it leaves room for a tinkerer to perhaps make some coin of off flasks, or at least give the PC a choice to either buy them or make them themselves. In that, I mean that if they are sold at 1gp each, who in thier right mind would make them rather than buy them? But when there is a heavier cost involved in the supplies, then the PC would have to decide if they are better off buying them or making them. |
