Tailoring Clothes?
Posted: 16 Aug 2003 05:41 PM
My wish:

To be able to craft dresses, outfits, and other visible clothing from the tailoring skill. Is there any way to add this into the crafting system?

Thanks for all your great work,

Poke

We will be updating CNR fairly soonish with all the hard work etc Sug et al. have put into it. as yet Tailoring has yet to have a facelift, but adding dresses of all colours and sizes and other things is something we can add reasonably easy.......

as for timeframe, as of yet, I am unsure I'm afraid...... but it is something we will be adding at some stage!

Cheers

more about tailoring....

I have reached level 5 or 6 in tailoring, and with my current dex and int levels most cotton/leather work is trivial for me. so the only thing I can make is the "special" items which require the pelts of more rare animals, namely: crag cats, worgs, white wolves, white stags, malar panthers and grizzly bears. Of these animals:

Crag cats: I know of three zones these spawn in. ONe has two that never drop a skinnable corpse. ONe has one that I can skin, and the other has 3 that I can skin.

Worgs: haven't found these yet, only the ones ridden by goblins, which you cannot skin.

white wolves: two zones, one with two that leave skinnable corpses, and one with three that leave skinnable corpses.

white stags: a few zones but no white stag leaves a skinnable corpse that I have seen.

malar panthers: One zone, two panthers, only one leaves a skinnable corpse.

Grizzly bears: a few zones, only 2 bears leave skinnable corpses.

The problem is this: many of these animals don't respawn on the normal timetabe it appears, so i'm stuck waiting for a server reset before I can collect the hides. I've been lately trying to make the mage armor, which takes 3 malar panther pelts. It takes me quite some time therefore before I even have the necessary ingredients to attempt to make it.

I know you have all been very busy with very important things in the Vives world, and I appreciate all that. But is there anyway to quickly and easily change these animals so they drop skinnable corpses all the time, or speed up their respawn time?

Ultimately, of course, I would like to see many more items that could be crafted simply using cotton and hemp, or other naturally growing fibers.

Thanks for all the work!

I would like to add my voice to this request as well. In trying to select a craft to develop, I quickly discovered that, as a Druid, I couldn't chop wood or mine (both of the required tools are martial in nature and cannot be equipped by a Druid). So, with my sister Pokeundi as my mentor ;), I have been pursuing tailoring. This has been lots of fun, but one thing I find a little unsavory is harvesting the animals required for my craft. Sure, boars and wolves and bears attack me on-sight and I suppose it is reasonable that I make something from their sacrifice, but force attacking neutral bats, badgers, and deer just seems wrong from an RP perspective.

If I could advance in my craft without having to slaughter and skin everything that moves on four legs in Vives and still advance in my craft, I would prefer that.

In the meantime, I might explore alchemy as a craft as well - assuming I can advance in more than one. At least then I would be less likely to need the hide of bambi's mother.

alchemy would be a natural for a druid (pun unintentional): you mostly gather herbs and flowers and nuts, although for some recipes, gem dust is also needed. and you can advance in *all* crafting skills, independently....or at least, that is how it works now.

But long ago he rode away

well,
first.. getting the 'special' skin is not suposed to be easy..
second.. you -can- craft things from cloth.. just look at the products or specials and look at the recepies..

anyway.. i agree that tailoring need some more recepies..
when allready thinking about them..
maybe there is a way to make them need more then 'special' or normal skins and cloth..
maybe making hard recepies based on skin + cloth + dye + gem dust or something..
and what about enchanted leather/outfits ?
or making a whole outfit out of pattern and spider silk ? so you will need a pattern and about i duno.. 40 spider silks to make a 'silk piece' and you will need 3 or so of these to make a 'large' outfit.. and then beside being hard/rare it can have a bit of ac bonus or resistance or something.. because after all spider silk is stronger than cloth.
and again, dyes made by alchemy that each one have diffrent bonus, depending on the way you use it, (e.g - using a 'glowin' dye and a green dye on a dress will make a glowing green dress)
altho there are a -lot- of ideas and each one will need tons of new custom items.. i suggest sticking to the current system first, and just add few more products Like a bit colored dresses (colored dresses that will need dyes - which right now will be sold, so there wont be a need to change both alchemy and tailoring for this - so for example you will give x plant leaf and 50 gps and the NPC will give you a x colored dye), or maybe adding a need for enchanted bags/gems to add into the 'special' outfits so they will have magical properties..

Dens

P.S.
I got more ideas but again.. all need tons of new stuff.. so i guess we first need to decide we are working on tailoring.. and then start to write down ideas

You are more than welcome to ignore my spelling mistakes =p

As for some animals dropping hides and others not, it's a pain when we transferred from ATS to CNR trade skills, and missed some of the animals/animal spawns in the switch. Report all these through the bug reporter IG, so we can make sure all animals drop a skinnable corpse upon their death, and spawn as such as well. This should also help respawn times once its more consistent and able to be uniform as CNR is still being worked on.

Personally I see nothing wrong with druids killing animals. The Druid is supposed to be in balance with nature. Part of that balance includes the harvesting of animals when there is a purpose to it. This is my personal take on Druids, but I think it's a reasonable one.

Question Authority!

Landru your totally right, Druids live in armony with nature, they survive due to it. Or should a druid die starving? cuz he cant eat animals, or plants? Druids take all they need from nature, protecting it of those who wish to kill just for fun, or for gold, looking for rare pelts, hornes and other stuff. All those who take from nature what they need to survive are well seen by druids.

But ey its just my view.

Why search around when the answer is within you...?

I also agree that a druid would harvest from nature to a degree. It's all part of the "circle of life" and nature's balance, but tailoring as a craft does require its practitioners to become one of

those who wish to kill...looking for rare pelts

Argh! Such conflict!
