Couple of Questions....and suggestions Posted: 02 Nov 2003 11:59 AM |
1. I'm having a real tough time finding a place to purchase weapons. I'm in Port Royale, which would seemingly have such a place....yet i can't find one. Am i just missing something or is there really no place to purchase regular weapons there? I found the armory fine....but nada for the weaponry.
2. This is more in the bug department...i think. I talked to Candy in Port Royale and told her she should put some clothes on...did NOT ask for her erm....services....and she for some reason took 10gp from me. Was this intended?
3. I really like the way that item purchasing has been setup. But there seems to be no way to tell how much an item costs until you actually purchase it? Once again, am i missing something or is there really no way to know?
4. Can you only rest buy building a campfire? I ask this because it would seemingly be just as adequate to sleep in a bed, if you happen to be in town, but i haven't found any that worked. Was this intentional to make resting harder, or just not implemented yet?
So far i greatly enjoy the game, and look forward to more play time This is gonna be great once it's completely finished! :) |

Good to see you are enjoying yourself!
As to answer your questions:
1. There are several stores which sells weapons. In addition every merchant might have some weapons if sold to them by the players. I fear you have to look a bit more for the weapon merchants or ask someone ingame. No doubt they will gladly help you out *smiley*.
2. As for Candy taking 10 GP... lets say the gal needs cash so she has her ways to acquire it. Even if you do not want her services.
3. There is a way to check a price on something before you buy it. Just set yourself in DETECT mode and then pick the item you want to check. It will go to your inventory for a split second, then reports the prize and goes back. So you won't loose cash.
4. There are places where you can rest without a camp of course. Really sleeping in beds isnt possible though. What you need then is a bedroll and rations. If you feel a certain area should allow you to rest without a camp, but isn't set up as such, make a report of it with the bug reporter. Then the staff can look into it and change or explain it.

The starting weapons boggled me as well.
I could not locate normal armor in Midor or Port Royale. None. The closest I found was platinum chainmail which seemed a steal at 400ish gold. I assumed that was typical gear on Vives till I received a vaguely accusatory "that's awfully nice armor for a level 3" tell.
I managed to locate a normal tower shield and found that it had some sort of bizarre particle effect. I've seen others new players since with the same shield, so I don't know if it's intentional or not.
Perhaps it would be worthwhile to reset the vendors' merchandise from time to time.

| There's plenty of normal armours in game. You just have to find the armour Vendor... who -is- in Port Royale. |

That particle effect is, for some odd Bioware reason, the standard effect on a regular Tower Sheild.
As to standard armour, yes there is a dealer in Port Royal, in the posh area. I can remember exactly where, though I believe its one of the shops on the periphery. I am also unsure if he has a sign or not. He should, so if someone could confirm if there is a sign, and make a bug report if there isnt, it would be appreciated. |

Don't you just love server resets? *grins* I was fighting a wererat and not paying much attention (probably because i was losing said battle) until i noticed all these players logging out. Then i saw the server resets in 3 minutes message and muttered an expletive and prayed i could get out in time :p
Not that i'm upset over the reset....only over not paying enough attention as i should have been. That darn wererat's damage resistance was making it impossible to hit him, i was waiting for a crit that never came, so i tucked tail and ran. Such is life. |

I wouldn't mind a half-hour server reset warning... nothing quite like logging in at 59 minutes to go, setting up for a big trip somewhere, wandering off... then right after you kill a Gargantua "Server will reset in 15 minutes" Translation: "Start running, else you gonna die! Die I say!", since you can never count on logging back in where you "should" be... or whatever. Anyway, point of this mindless lunchbreak ramble is- A half hour warning would be quite nice.

IIRC, at one hour to reset it will remind you once every 10 minutes. At the 10 minute mark, it reminds you every minute. Does it no longer do this?

Usually it does give the one hour, 10, 9, 8 ...
Last night when they updated the CNR, though, it was only 10 minutes. At least that I saw. |

Quillian may not have 16 intelligence, but even she knows that when she puts salt, deer skin, and acid in the tub that she's going to get a cured deer hide out of the whole deal. |

There is a new crafting station for tailoring that needs to get put in. I imagine it will be done soonish. As to the unid'd pelts coming out, I would imagine that just requires the person putting in the hide racks to click the 'is identified' box in the item templates for the hides. |

Lisen and i were talking about this today. Which is probably why she posted. I don't mind so much that everything isn't in yet....it IS beta...but it made me scratch my head until she explained cause i thought i was doing something wrong when i cured the hides and then they didn't seem to work for anything, though i saw all the recipes at the tailoring station.
I was wondering, and this is a suggestion only...but perhaps you should make books to be sold at the different tradeskill shops that would explain the processes one needs to go through to create different items, and what one needs. Yes, some of it is self explanatory, but i was rather lost on how to cure things until Lisen so kindly stepped in and explained. Plus it would be nice to carry a book around that tells you what you might need so when you're gathering supplies, you don't forget something or get the wrong kind of something. I bought a bunch of curing oil...not realizing i was supposed to be getting curing acid instead.
Anyway, i LIKE the addition of trade skills.....it makes the world much more then a get together to chat or hack n slash fest. Besides, i'm nearly broke...i need some way to make things for myself ;) |
