After server crash

After server crash, could we have the options of coming back to the same place as before the crash or to a safe place? I am saying that because, there was a server crash, whilst we were exploring mirgul caverns, and when I came back (alone after the server crash), well I was alone in the cavern and it was impossible to get out for my char, so I got killed (I actually logged as I was dying since I thought that was not a regular death).
This is all the more important when you travel to more challenging areas because you are in group. After the crash, many may call it a day, and it is harsh for the ones left stranded. Also, IC, the companions would not suddenly disappear like this (unless they were evil of course)

That scenario has happened to me few times.
If everytime you logged into an OOC area with the option of "Last logout" or "Midor Temple", that would be great. However, it would also make logout escaping very easy- "Hey, can't beat that." logout, jump back to Midor.
For that reason I'd say, keep it as it is.

I suppose that if you catch a DM on a nice day or summat, and explain that when your character logs back in they'll die, they'd probably jump you to a safe place or kill the creature which would muller you. But then, I'm just a player, and don't speak for the DMs or anything..so....

I've had my share of deaths to re-appearing in a combat situation, and even more due to badly timed lag from several people logging on in quick succession or a large group doing things together. I've learned to be cautious when the world is slow and/or jerky, that's all.

I honestly don't know how this server will ever accomodate the 30 people it allows. More than about 10 seems to make it unstable as heck.

Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset.

I don't know... from personal experiences, it seems that the lag/crash correlates better with the time that the server is up rather than large groups. I guess the problem is that the server is frequently too stable rather than unstable... Q changed the intervals between resets from 12 to 8 hours, placebo effect or not, I do feel better now Tongue out

Logging in-out in succession definitely cause a jerk (which is why I absolutely abhor people who logout and in for bad Out-of-Character purposes *wink*) - that seems to be a common NwN behaviour. If you know of anything that can/could help performances, feel free to post them here/let us know.

From the DM perspective... If you're in a challenging area and the server crashes, you can come ask a DM for help in irc... We understand server crashes, and have been killed by them too. we can see when the server goes up and down, due to Q's neat Server Status thingy, and also by the flood of people into the chatroom. *wink*

We won't consider it metagaming if you do this, however if you're one of those who call it quits after a crash and then try to come back twelve hours later and ask to be pulled out, you might find us... somewhat less cooperative. Please finish your quests, and don't leave your comrades stranded.

As a somewhat related note, we are awaiting delivery of a new server for Vives. It should accomodate more players.
