New Vives Haks? Opinions wanted! Posted: 12 Oct 2004 03:01 PM |
Hi folks, we're going to be needing a new hak (only very small, less than a meg) due to 1.64 and compatability issues.
We'd like to add some new ones too though and we will be doing (not particularly big), but with some there's the issue that they're quite large :/
The two in Question are the Gothic haks........ so what I'm basically asking is:
How big a hak update are you willing to Download?
Here's some screenies of the Haks in Question:
Let us know your thoughts! :D

My NWN directory is already close to seven gigs...a few more won't hurt! I say go as big as you must. I'd love to see the new stuff implemented. |

Don't care on size! but thats because I have a fast connection and can just leave it to DL all day on my day off.
How many people that play on Vives are still using dial up, because if there isn't anyone that does can't really see much of a problem with people using something like DL accelerator to do it in segments. Though I might be missing another reason..... I would say not over 500mb :)) but I don't really care just as long as everyone can DL it with no problems |

Oh wow they are unbelievable.
If we get that hak can we also get LAZ3RZ too!
I have no problem with any size hak tbh, do we have many people on 56k these days? |

I think anyone willing to download the vives haks originally before trying the world, would not mind downloading several more megs of stuff to keep playing once theyve witnessed its grooviness :p
I for one vote put em in. |

Has the Vives team considered implimenting CEP? |

Implementing CEP would mean approximately................ 150-200 man hours of Work, just to get Vives compliant with CEP.
We would then lose a lot of cool custom content we currently use that isn't in CEP, not to mention the tilsets etc. adding more Work..........
We could, however, use CEP in conjunction with our existing haks (but then there's the issue of mass duplication etc.).
Unfortunately, We're just too far down the road with our own haks :/ Unless someone comes up with a simpler and quick solution then we won't be implementing it :)

I'd be willing to download as much as you want as it is.
As to your dial-up concerns, I was on it just a few months ago(Not now though, yaay!) My opinion always was if you give us the time to download the haks before you require the module to use them, then go wild. If you were to make the download avaible at the same time you required it to play, I'd claw your eyes out, painfully. |

Add Everything! Abandon Nothing! I will download any size....
And.. besides... even if the downloads do take a long time... it will only give me more time IG while everyone downloads them to have Daimon Begin work on his New invention... the Coal Driven Steam Powered Steel Motive Rail Driven Trans-Vives Person Carrier. The construction of which will be a great implementation of his formerly useless invention, the Caboose... Which he has yet to find any use for.... as it just sits rusting in his super secret laboratory deep in the Fiirkraag Mountains. |

My only thoughts are that the gothic tileset looks too modern, a little out of place for the Forgotten Realms. But thats just me, as I am new to Vives and have loved what I've seen so far, I will bow down to the wisdom of the Vives Team... |

Vives isnt in the forgotten realms. But yea, would be a very different, more modern look to most Vives towns...but maybe inspire Ara to make even more new areas!

Well, I can't see the Gothic tileset itself due to a censored internet, but I do believe that the Gothic style of architecture dates back far enough that it does apply to the period that DnD is based upon (C15-16th). And, for that matter, well before that... after all, isn't Notre dang 13th century?

I don't care how big a hak I have to download to play Vives. Of course I've got alot of bandwidth so unless it is over 5GB it isn't an issue for me. |
