Gullener Tider Posted: 02 Feb 2004 07:03 PM |
Ever since Gullener had left his fathers ship he had felt somewhat empty. Not that he was lonely, but for the first time in his life he felt that he was missing something. Now Gullener was not the kind of person to feel like this, before he never seemed to have any trouble at all. And when others did, like his nice Rianne he would easily cheer her up, and reasure her all was fine. Though he was gratefull one tried to do this to him now, it had helped him just a little.
He'd never thought his opions on the Gods, or one of them would ever change, but now they seemed to, if just a little. His father and Unlce had allways told him Midoran was good peace in the city wich was good for trade and that's all. Though he had allways found there had to be more to it, he never tended to give it any thought.
Again, unlike him it seemed to Gullener now, for he allways regarded himself as one who would question all and everything, and he would take nothing for granted. At the trading school they could't be hapier once they heard he decided to drop out. No more tough questions from the annoying brat.
Ofcourse his father got pretty mad once he heard a few months later. "Do you think you're living with your Aunt and Uncle because I think they like it? No, its because only then can I make enough money to pay for your education and hope you'll have somekind of future! Well then if you don't want to learn about the trade in theory you'll do it in practice, you're coming with me on my next trip." And so it was, Gullener sailed the sees together with his father and crew for over a year.
The sea is lonely place, no matter with how many you're on a ship. It seems you have to spend all your time alone. It did not matter to Gullener though, it gave him time to think, to think about life, about himself, what he wanted, needed. It seems so strange now that all of that time was spend without giving much thought to his mother.
He knew little of her, only what he was told by his aunt Ania. She was the only one who would speak about her to him and she could tell but one story, that of how he got his name.
His father wanted him to be named Kain, like his grandfather. But his mother would have none of this. She used to have dreams, beautifull dreams in wich all of Vives would cheer of happines. And the sound would be like that of a million trumpets. She wanted that sound to somehow echo in the name of her child and thought that Gullener spoke to the sole in a similar way. When one pronounces it correctly one can not stand but to feel joyous.
Perhaps he felt guilty that he knew so little about her. Perhaps he...
But this was no time to be spent with reflections on ones feelings. This was a time of great peril, and work needed to be done. People needed to be informed, needed to be told, told about the danger that lingered above all.. |

((great to hear about Gullener's past, especially since Loli essentially drafted the poor man on sight, and then had him taken off to Hell for his lessons on Malagard))
((on the other hand, she also saw to it he met his Elven heritage and learned about Aros, so I guess he hasn't suffered -too- much as long as the women around him all stay sober *wink*)) |
Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset. PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence. |

Gullener Tider a sudden departure Posted: 17 Mar 2004 04:52 PM |
Gullener shivered when he saw his father. Though he knew something was wrong from the moment Rianne told him his father was in town and that he wanted to meet him, he had never thought to find him in such a state. He was sitting in a corner of the Slaughtered Dragon, looking down on his mug of beer. He didn't look up as Gullener sat down in front of him, but his sigh revealed that he knew his son was there.
"I'm going to lose it, Gullener.. I'm going to lose it all." "What are you going to lose. What are talking about?" "The boat... My life.. Everything"
His father raised his head, as Gullener looked in his eyes he shivered.
"The order started an investigation against me, they suspect I may have been smuggling. And now the trade Guild revoked my license." "You didn't..." "Ofcourse not, but that matters little for the Midoran Trade Guild, they only care for their good name. But now I cant set sail, nobody will work for me." "But, wont the guild give you back your license once the investigation reveals you did nothing wrong?" "Perhaps, but it will matter little, if I do not sail out within two days I'm ruined. I need you son, you're my last hope."
Gullener hesitates and then sighs..
"Me? I can hardly.." "Arg, you'll do fine, we sailed before didn't we?" "What's so important that you need to set out now?"
His father pauses, then drinks the last of his beer and signals the waitres for another one.
"I cant tell you." "You tell me you're being prosecuted for smuggling, that you need to deliver something immidiately.. And you expect me to go with you?" "I'm NOT being prosecuted.- They started an investigation, that's all. Besides it's not a delivery, its a pickup. But that's all I can say." "Well then still.."
He pauses as the waitres approaches with a two beers, then continues again.
"Do you think you can just, just recruit me.. I've got things to.."
His father interrupts him angrily
"Do you know what I've done for you in my live? And now you won't give up a few weeks to help your old dad? Your mother would be." "Allright, allright. Perhaps your right."
Gullener gets up and leaving the beer for his dad.
"We leave at dawn."
He nods as he silently walks to the door.. |
