| 1. | Re: Welcome New Folks! Posted by Veshtan on 11/1/2003 8:29:11 PM Just wanted to introduce myself. Spent my first night in the wonderful world of Vives. Well, only 45 minutes actually....just enough time to die and get a leg up on joining that dirtnap league ;)
I've liked everything i've seen so far. And thank you very much Danariel, for offering your companionship in adventuring. I'm thinking i should have accepted....i died about 5 minutes later *sighs*. Live and learn.
Anyway, this looks to be great fun, i think i'll be enjoying ... |
| 2. | Re: Pick and Jess's Wild Tours Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 12:53:47 AM Good gods....i KNEW there was a good reason not to join you two tonight *rolls eyes and laughs* Though i must say i joined one of your earlier tours and, yep, i died *grins*
I guess that makes me a satisfied customer, eh? |
| 3. | Re: Vives Update v98 Posted by Veshtan on 11/23/2003 3:11:33 PM I think that unequiping all your items and dumping them into your inventory is a bad idea, given how buggy that could be, and telling us that we're supposed to make sure we keep a free page of inventory because something you put in might not work right is not a very fair, or good, answer.
I fail to even see the reasoning behind putting this in, but perhaps that's just me. |
| 4. | Re: Vives Update v98 Posted by Veshtan on 11/23/2003 6:06:02 PM After doing a bit of thinking, am i to understand that the inventory drop thing is likely a direct result of the other rule now in place, about losing a level? Kicking off items so that if you happen to lose a level that makes that item no longer legal, you won't be caught with some sort of crash or bug?
I guess this is something that is livable, but here's the problem. What do we do if we lose an item because of some sort of bug? Are we going to be able to petition for a DM to ... |
| 5. | Re: Vives Update v98 Posted by Veshtan on 11/24/2003 9:33:50 AM I agree with Poenix. Simply because i hope he and Slink and others would back me up on this, i roleplay all the time, at least when i'm with others to roleplay with. I learned my lesson on OOC and almost never do it now unless it has to do with an RL thing that is causing me to leave. Yet through all that i've only ever gotten xp rewards twice. Am i complaining, no. Often i am not able to be on when DM's are running quests. Which is a lament for me, not because of missed experience, ... |
| 6. | Re: England are WORLD CHAMPIONS! Posted by Veshtan on 11/22/2003 9:29:51 AM *grins* You realize that most people in most countries don't give a flying...*coughs* about rugby? *winks* Though rugby is rather cool, it's never taken off here in America or most other places. Give me American Football any day of the week. Well, actually i like motorsports better, but Football will have to do.
And congrats to England! It's always good to win, no matter what it is! |
| 7. | Re: England are WORLD CHAMPIONS! Posted by Veshtan on 11/22/2003 9:45:10 AM Hmmmm, i guess you could be right, Barnas, but i would think Soccer, or what most everyone else calls football, would be considered god, not rugby. Though rugby is certainly rather fun to watch. Soccer is certainly big in South America, which is part of the southern hemisphere *winks*
I still prefer motorsports. Hey, i even like watching WRC, and they don't even come to America, so i can't be all bad, can i? |
| 8. | Re: England are WORLD CHAMPIONS! Posted by Veshtan on 11/22/2003 10:03:13 AM If America competed in this World Rugby Cup, i'm sure we finished last, Tasra We usually do.
And grats again to England. Ummm....Barnas.....i bet you're one of those people that goes to games half naked and wears face and body paint, aren't you? *grins* |
| 9. | Re: England are WORLD CHAMPIONS! Posted by Veshtan on 11/22/2003 3:23:30 PM Actually, Baseball is more of an international sport then i think you realize, Arathon. As is basketball. *shrugs* Though neither come close to Soccer, or yes, Arathon, Football. American Football is still our countries biggest sport, probably always will be. *shrugs* I don't think we've ever asked the rest of the world to understand, they don't have to.
I still prefer motorsports. Doesn't matter what your nationality, everyone that likes watching fast cars has something to ... |
| 10. | Re: IMPORTANT: Item Transfering Posted by Veshtan on 11/15/2003 7:39:03 PM I will NEVER condone this, as this is supposed to be an RP server, and doing this in no way resembles any sort of RP, but that being said, i CAN understand why it's done or perhaps thought to be okay.
Vives is a persistent world, so like any persistent world it follows some rules like that of an MMORPG. Things are persistent. Monsters respawn. Etc.
Knowing this, characters will often start one character, realize it doesn't suit them well for the game because the ... |
| 11. | Re: IMPORTANT: Item Transfering Posted by Veshtan on 11/16/2003 10:05:49 AM I'm sorry Arathon if i really upset you with my post. I didn't mean to nor did i mean to make it sound as if it were okay what was being done, after all, i did say it shouldn't be condoned.
I guess i'm simply more sympathetic to the plight of someone that might do such simply because i've played MANY MMORPG's....and Vives is setup like most of them. Meaning it takes a lot of effort and many long hours to level your character. Should this be a reason to cheat? No. I'm simply ... |
| 12. | Re: Persistent Banking/Storage System? Posted by Veshtan on 11/24/2003 9:45:03 AM I don't really want a vault. I want a house, or an apartment that i can call my own, because i feel that WOULD be more realistic to roleplay, because the way it is now, we're all like vagrants without any place to stay, simply wandering the streets of Midor and Port Royale.
That aside, let me tell you about my first mining experience.
I was with a certain person who was quite a bit stronger then i at that moment. I wanted to learn how to smith but i had no clue as to ... |
| 13. | Re: True Seeing Posted by Veshtan on 11/22/2003 9:56:45 AM You know, i just realized something.
We spend an awful lot of timing arguing about how to clean up Biowares mistakes. *grins*
*shrugs* If Fri'el wants to walk around with True Seeing on all the time, who am i to argue? Vesh doesn't even know much about those sorts of things. He was rather astounded the first time he had invisibility cast on him. He wouldn't even realize what True Seeing is, as a spell. I understand the want to change it, because having Fri'el walk ... |
| 14. | Re: Idea to help the Midor guard. Posted by Veshtan on 11/20/2003 8:51:15 PM Because we want to make it so we have to call in a mage that has enough intelligence to figure out the system we're setting up, that's why we want it so complicated! *grins and winks* |
| 15. | Re: Idea to help the Midor guard. Posted by Veshtan on 11/19/2003 8:00:17 PM I think this is a very good idea that would help lower a bit of violence and anger in the game over NPC, and not PC, issues. Meaning that if you catch someone stealing or killing a guard, etc, instead of just attacking them and having a player die, it would allow a more flexible option of going to jail, maybe paying a fine, etc.
Stating that, i think the roll system should work, but i do NOT feel it should have a STR modifier with it. Me being a fighter with crappy dex, you'd ... |
| 16. | Re: Debating Evil Posted by Veshtan on 11/19/2003 8:15:56 PM Tasra, what i think Dens is saying is that there is a difference between debating evil, and someone getting caught, or being chased, for pilfering a bit of food of items from the local market, and setting up a system in game to help facillitate in confrontations when these things happen. So Dens is saying go to the other thread for posting on setting up a system for bandit confrontations between PC's, but stay here if you want to debate the nature of evil and the role of evil characters on the ... |
| 17. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 7:47:56 PM I would disagree that they don't have a need for epic levels on an RP server, in fact, i'd say it's the exact opposite. Why? Here is the reason....
On an RP server, if, and i mean a big IF here (Since it's very hard to level in Vives) IF you got to level 20.....how realistic would it be to keep playing that character and yet never learning another thing, never becoming more powerful? If i was level 20, and i played for 400 hours extra after attaining 20 and yet hadn't learned a ... |
| 18. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 12:11:16 PM I like the idea of epic levels....but it wouldn't fit with Vives. You'd have to totally revamp the entire world, starting with the xp tables, which people have already discussed in this thread.
My big want for HOTU is the new PrC's. Of course they may not allow some, or any, but i think it would be great to have them added.
One question, though. How is HOTU going to effect the CNR? Or are we not going to know until that's tested? |
| 19. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 1:30:07 PM Bravo PhoenixF, BRAVO! That's what i've been wanting to say, but am never quite eloquent enough to do so.
In the world of Vives, getting experience is a trial. It's NOT easy. Some might feel it is, but i define easy by how many hours you have to put into it, and it takes a lot of hours to attain levels in Vives. Is this a bad thing? Nope. But it does actually make epic levels more viable. Why? Because it would take so freakin long just to get one of them, much less 20, that ... |
| 20. | Re: Epic Levels and Hordes of the Underdark Posted by Veshtan on 11/15/2003 9:47:21 AM That's the problem, though, Tasra, we are NOT using Gary Gygax's system anymore. This ISN'T first edition. This is THIRD edition. Things change.
That being said, everyone is allowed to have their opinion. Some of us like the idea of epic levels and some don't. Those that don't have the option not to play epic level characters. It's your choice. If you are so greatly against epic level characters and what they stand for, then don't play them. If Vives goes HOTU and they ... |
| 21. | Re: Roleplay Sugestions Posted by Veshtan on 11/15/2003 8:39:27 AM I still disagree that we should roleplay our characters based off of any of our stats unless those stats are super low. The reason being that no person in real life is born with a set of numbers to define their attributes and no one can ever give them a set of numbers to do so. Yes, some people are smarter, some people aren't quite so, some people are stronger, some aren't so, but here's the problem. The point buy system makes it, for game balance reasons, not roleplay ones, so that if ... |
| 22. | Re: Roleplay Sugestions Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 7:37:00 PM I think a lot of it depends on how you want to play the character, it's unfortunate that stats are more tied to what you want your character to be able to do, and therefore can't always be tied to what you would like to roleplay him or her as.
For Veshtan i am rather lucky. I want him to be fairly intelligent, even for a fighter. My INT is 13, which works out well, since i want Improved Knockdown. Since getting improved knockdown requires that level of INT, i simply am getting ... |
| 23. | Re: Roleplay Sugestions Posted by Veshtan on 11/15/2003 7:50:50 PM Here's the problem with that, Barnas.
Say i want to be an intelligent fighter, but i also want to dual wield. Ugh...that means i'm automatically saddled with a str of 10 or 12? Horrible. Going by what you say, it makes it sound like it has to be a choice. Choose to have a good character and be a bad RP person, or choose to have a good RP character, but a horrible one when it comes to the game itself. That's really not fair.
Like i said. The stats are there to BALANCE ... |
| 24. | Re: APB Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 7:27:40 PM I think i shall stand by Loli in this. Kusin provides a worthy public service, and while i am not a dwarf, i clearly think that anyone with a few morals would realize that attacking him is a spineless and cowardly act, worthy of some form of retribution. Be aware that every action you make reflects on your character, and harming an innocent rates you very low indeed.

| 25. | Re: Vendors Posted by Veshtan on 11/14/2003 7:18:55 PM I love Bioware. *sighs* Anything that is too time consuming to fix becomes a feature. Well, that's probably a bit harsh, but good god, it gets annoying sometimes.
I didn't realize theat barrels and chests respawned, i simply assumed that they didn't because i've gone places and found them empty. That's probably a good thing, cause after this morning, i'd have cursed like crazy for all the work i did to get nothing. |
