| 2. | Weekend Warriors Wanted Posted by Henesua on 11/24/2014 12:12:28 AM We had our first event at Llyra on November 22. It was a salvaging expedition to Goat Rock Island where Vincent, a fisherman, had spotted a shipwreck. I had a good time learning the DM client again, and getting back into the swing of roleplaying.
I would like to keep this going. The idea is to host short, one shot adventures that do not require extensive knowledge of lore, involvement in an ongoing campaign or a regular commitment to get ... |
| 3. | Re: Vives still exists? Posted by Henesua on 6/29/2014 4:28:02 PM I believe this is the latest version of Vives. This module was rewritten so that it would work on a standard home installation. This allowed us to share hosting duties and for us to share the module with anyone. So you don't have your old PC or the old database. But I believe the module still works fine otherwise. It was early in my NWN coding days so probably has ... |
| 4. | Re: Vives still exists? Posted by Henesua on 6/30/2014 1:55:26 PM Glad you got the module.
Yes things are good on my end. I'm hoping that with all this work we are putting into the new module that lots of the old timers come and join us. I think we could have a real revival if people get into it again. |
| 5. | Re: Vives still exists? Posted by Henesua on 9/28/2014 6:16:40 PM Yes, we are still going. PDW put a server together for us and we have an alpha version of the module up. All the info is on the Llyra Development Blog's Essential Information page.
I expected to be in Beta by now, but the past two months have been hell on my free time and the next few promise to be similar, Nevertheless I am still plugging along on the module. Other than me we have two DMs who are ... |
| 6. | Weekend Warriors wanted Posted by Henesua on 11/20/2014 12:10:47 PM I am throwing together an adventure this weekend for any low level PC that you can scrape together.
Nov 22 6pm PST (Saturday)
I don't know what Chief or Random (our official DMs) are planning for you at other time slots, but I'll be running this show, and they were gabbing about doing something else this weekend too. Maybe just be around to ... |
| 7. | Re: Vives still exists? Posted by Henesua on 3/23/2014 2:49:40 AM I think the Original is still live, but I have lost track of it recently. I gave the module and player vault to Calmeir a couple years ago. He'll have to let you know what the IP address is.
Meanwhile we are working hard on "Vives 2" (our working title as we come up with a proper name that isn't so "sequel-ish"). |
| 8. | Re: Vives still exists? Posted by Henesua on 6/27/2014 4:29:16 AM We might be able to make that happen. I'll talk with the group and see what folks think.
Way back I had released the module quietly and a few folks got their hands on it. We could do that again. |
| 9. | Re: Vives 2 coming soon Posted by Henesua on 6/27/2014 4:31:43 AM June 28th 6am PST we will be open up for Alpha Testing for anyone interested. The world should be live from that day forward, but in various states of completion. It will be rough for the first month, but begin to take on serious shape in time.

| 10. | Re: Vives 2 coming soon Posted by Henesua on 3/23/2014 2:55:05 AM I would like it to be live ASAP, but every time I feel we are close I find more that I need to work on. Its coming, but needs more time.

| 11. | Re: Vives 2 coming soon Posted by Henesua on 4/30/2014 4:28:30 AM We are getting close to opening up the server to testing by players - as opposed to testing by team members. If you are interested in doing so get in touch with us, and we'll let you in for testing.
We are weeks away from Beta Testing (player testing) because the last technical hurdle has been crossed, and now its just a matter of putting enough content in so that we get useful test results from you.
You can catch me in IRC server irc.darkmyst.org channel ... |
| 12. | Re: Vives 2 coming soon Posted by Henesua on 5/28/2014 6:31:27 PM This has been a much longer process than I anticipated, and in some respects I could take another year to get everything just right.
So I am thinking we should just open the server up even if it is not fully baked and consider it good for "casual" RP. Keep watch on our development blog ( http://vives2.dyndns.org/ ) for announcements, jump in IRC, or look here for the news on that happening. June is our deadline for this. ... |
| 13. | Re: Vives 2 coming soon Posted by Henesua on 6/28/2014 3:32:36 PM LLYRA LIVES
We gave the world a new name as it was born anew out of the sundered gibbets of old Vives. That name is Llyra. Her name is Llyra. She is the world, the ocean, song, and dream. She is maker of worlds, and the weaver of fate. Fate is in the winds they say. The currents of the sea, they suss and russ a tangled skein. Llyra is the world. Llyra is your fate. The fate you make is the only fate you deserve. Come meet it.

| 15. | Re: Crafting and the economy Posted by Henesua on 7/22/2013 7:26:12 PM The fact is, it is NOT a living economy... it can never be even close... so my 2 cents are to not even -try- to manage it. Just go back to trying to find creative ways to get players to throw their money away... that's really all you can do.
It is fun to try. :)
Getting players to throw away money in creative ways is a good way to manage it. As PDW said above you need sinks equal to your sources. I think that is the best way to start with ... |
| 16. | Re: Favorite Vives moments? Posted by Henesua on 2/8/2010 6:57:17 PM There are many great moments for me here, and oddly I am still looking for more. I've finally got a spot of time free for a few weeks after what seems like months and months of none. I just can't let go of this place. I would like to build another one with the same spirit that this one had just so as to draw in a community of dreamers and players again.
I had good times with the Dethedes stuff because it drew in a number of players and DMs, and I got to play characters from Kobai ... |

Looking for a low overhead solution that provides corpse options - including animating the dead. Necromancy needs a boost, especially for wizards/sorcerers without relying on pale master.

| 20. | Re: Would you like to play a game? Posted by Henesua on 7/20/2013 12:48:57 AM A warning on crafting and economy:
This is indeed a challenging problem, and I have not solved it. Given our desire to get rolling soon. Crafting will not likely be in the first release. Both the technical issues of a crafting system, AND the design problem of the economics is a problem we will have to focus on before anything is implemented.
Perfect is the enemy of the good, and so in my view we'll be better off releasing with a limited set of features, to expand as we go. |
| 21. | Re: Would you like to play a game? Posted by Henesua on 7/20/2013 1:01:15 AM d) In addition, any group or person coming into a city with LOADS of loot, or a large shipment, would be searched wouldn't they? Allowing large amounts of things into a city without being sure it is safe, or not contraband would surely bring the ire of the lord. spot checks of players entering cities with large quantities of goods, and possibly having some of it "quarantined until further inspected" could be an interesting way to play with the economy.

| 22. | Re: Would you like to play a game? Posted by Henesua on 7/20/2013 3:30:46 AM Regarding being searched by guards, don't forget an option to brib the guards based on the appropriate skill check.
Skill? What is skill if you have the funds?
Unless you are talking about the pickpocket check for retrieving the bribe from the guard for later use. |
| 23. | Re: Would you like to play a game? Posted by Henesua on 7/20/2013 10:52:15 AM healing kits:
depends on how it plays in game. For Arnheim it worked very well. Healing kits did the following: (1) target a PC at 0 or less hitpoints and stop them from bleeding to death (2) remove poison (3) remove disease
Not saying that Vives has to have the same thing, but this is in my opinion the direction to go in. To take Vives away from Diablo style play and towards pen and paper style group play. |
| 24. | Re: Would you like to play a game? Posted by Henesua on 7/20/2013 11:20:41 AM We have to ask ourselves do we want it to be a PW or something only run for gaming sessions.
Indeed this is the time to talk over what we want to do. That said, I don't think those play styles are mutually exclusive. And I also think that even now if a world is done right, we could draw in a good number of players. I've seen it happen. Most PWs don't have the special sauce. The good ones stand out and tend to draw players out of the woodwork.
