| 1. | Re: Crafting and the economy Posted by Bolgryn on 7/23/2013 2:54:41 AM A couple ideas from economies in other games:
-Item durability -- Item repair cost -Gold cost in crafting -Best items are crafted (better the item higher craft cost) -Merchants drive harder bargains -> your crafted +3 sword will sell for 100gp, but a player will pay 1000. -Travel costs that scale to your level: a level 5 will pay 50gp to take the cart, while a level 12 would pay 120 gold.
Thing that struck me from DD: When you stole and got ... |
| 2. | Re: on entering new areas... Posted by Bolgryn on 7/17/2013 1:53:17 AM The XP system: exploration, casting, picking locks / traps, and then diminishing returns which encouraged you to explore and find new avenues of getting XP. I'll be very honest and say that I had a lot of fun powergaming the system, and figuring out the perfect combination of things to kill at what level to level.
Areas - everything was beautiful, and areas that weren't were often changed in time to the newer hak tiles. Areas changed! An event in game or player actions could change ... |

But Virallax Breathstealer also survived.
I remember there was an evil sword entity named Breathstealer, whatever happened to it? I think last I remember it was owned by the... tentacle-face doods (forget what they're called).
That was one of the first major quests I got involved in as Bereil. I remember Glor and I pouring IGMSs into that thing, as players were running away from its deathdealing swings. When it was down, ... |

| 5. | Re: Stats for Dummies: Top 100 Players bar none Posted by Bolgryn on 7/16/2013 8:49:55 AM 3100 hours.
Can we get the sum of all the levels earned by people? Heh. |
| 6. | Re: How to connect via. mIRC to our chatrooms Posted by Bolgryn on 2/27/2006 8:59:07 PM I got mine fixed, here's all you have to change for the temporary.. or maybe forever.
But instead of irc.darkmyst.org, you put irc2.darkmyst.org - that's what worked for me.
G'luck. |

| 9. | Re: DMs: Insanity in the OOC Lounge Posted by Bolgryn on 7/16/2013 8:08:53 AM Those were the days... I think I came up with the idea for Markus after reading Gene Wolf's The Knight - about a boy who meets some sort of spirit/god/entity thing who falls in love with him, and pulls him into her world, turns him (physically) into a grown man, and he has adventures. Also, uh, Lord What's-his-Face's The White Company. Another tale about an up-and-coming squire, all in the brilliant older English language that you don't see anymore. Actually, I think I read that latter book ... |
| 10. | Re: DMs: Trent Posted by Bolgryn on 7/16/2013 8:27:21 AM Huh, if Bereil had known that vampire wasn't associated with Maldovia he might have actually tried to stop her from taking Trent. As it was though he was scared shitless of repercussions... or felt like he owed them something - like giving him life again after a miserably failed adventure in Maldovia castle.
As it was that was a funny moment of "What? You want him? Sure! Try and stop you? Noooope!"
Cheers WA! |
| 11. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 10/31/2009 7:01:56 PM Yes, I'll add my own shoutout to everyone who was there: Salt, Talion, Ruby, Shih, and the grand master dungeon master Jester. Maldovia always gives me the creeps, even without a GM around-- or maybe it's because of them that it always gives me the heebie jeebies. |
| 12. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 7/15/2013 2:40:16 PM It's like returning to a country you stayed at for a while, and remembering all the sights, smells, and memories you made there.

| 13. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 9/14/2008 8:08:12 PM Hene, WA, Elk, Moriarty, Hampster, Baldrin, Kalid!
Great DM'ing, that was a hella fun adventure! |
| 14. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 10/12/2009 3:40:47 PM Shoutout to everyone who was there yesterday. I dodged out for thanksgiving (that's when we celebrate it here in Canada). Salt, your post scared me, and makes me wonder and want to see what might have happened there. |
| 15. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 3/7/2006 6:18:51 PM A shoutout to everyone who was in that dicussion last night (it was last night for me.) or morning. I thought it was fun since I don't get involved in alotta big group discussions about stuff and it was interesting. You all know who you are... but I'll mention names anyway in no particular order: Macha for having the idea, Dorian for the idea revolving around him, Conn for being at the right place at the right time, Nay'Finn for believing in pants, PD (the one without pants), Alton 'cause, Tomi ... |
| 16. | Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 8/20/2006 5:04:38 PM Shoutout to everyone who's been writing stories on the forum these past couple months, they kept me sane on my time away. The stories have been beautifically laced portraits of Vives so you can keep a good picture of the world to imagine, and there's a great streak of comedy too, props to the Pratchet and all you Madhatters(The hats are angry!).
Ta,
- Bereil. |
| 17. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 10/5/2006 1:23:04 AM Quick shout-out to Oragustus and Ophelia, with the tree, and the wizard talk, and oh it had me laughing. |
| 18. | Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 2/7/2007 10:04:51 PM Shout out, first to [all] (Henesua) - come back some day. Dorian Alltos (Rodon Kross) for being great to just be around. Cedrych (Jet), Trent (WA), and Lyn (Sky): Once a Midoran; Always a Midoran. Emma (Snoots) & Syluné (Keen) for just being that good.
*Tear* DMs... Ranger, Butcher (1, 2 and however many of you there are *shifty eyes*).
Last, but not least, save the best one's last: Everyone else.
Wait, Pickston and Tasra too. You guys are good IRC ... |
| 19. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 3/3/2007 5:15:05 AM Seconded. All hail the Bucket King! Also shoutout to Fennigan, Serai, Talion for the adventuring across Vives. Especially with all the dang blockades, y'all are very patient, even as ideas didn't pan out and we were forced to go on the flying machine. |
| 20. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 5/4/2007 12:31:24 AM Wait ... someone said Bereil's name, and I logged on? Creepy.
It was fun. I love the Convocation of Wizardry, they're always a blast. |
| 21. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 8/13/2008 2:20:07 AM Shoutout to that elf (Thorandir? You know who you are), and the dm today. I apologize for not returning after rebooting my computer. RL interfered. |
| 22. | Re: Shoutouts Posted by Bolgryn on 9/8/2008 3:10:42 PM A quick shoutout to everyone who's hanging around for some fun RP, and continuing the liveliness of the world. Whether with me or just online in general: Elk, Renter, Henesua, Talion, Ophelia, Baldrin, Kalid, Frimble, Ruby, Monah, and anyone else.
Of course a Extra Special shoutout to the DMs, you know who you are. Right on! |
