1.Re: Port Royale's First Ever Winter Ball
Posted by Auberon on 2/8/2004 7:50:33 PM
* Overhearing conversation of some sort of Royal Ball, Auberon seeks out more information, finding a copy of the Port Tribune *

What's this? What's this! A Royal Ball... And in Port Royale. How very apropos!

With party games and auctions and a dance! Amazing, I must say.

And to top it off, hosted by her eminence the Queen Aquinas! Whom I have not had the chance to meet, nor be banished by as of yet!

Hopefully this won't turn out like the Royal ...

I agree. I like the intro. But as far as commandments go, they should be about the same as basic ethics go in real life.

Play the game, interact with the world, roleplay, roleplay, roleplay, but don't do anything that affects other PLAYERS that you wouldn't want them to do to you.

Whether you're an evil character or a newbie who doesn't understand, we're still all people playing a game, so don't try to abuse the system just because you can.

On the other hand... Perhaps the CHARACTER in a RP sense is deathly afraid of doors! And is on conquest to banish all of them from the lands! Entering the room to only be sure there are no unbashed doors on the other side.

Funny. It's like One Flew Over The Coocoo's Nest.... On the verge of either being entirely out of character or the best roleplaying of insanity ever!

Although, as you said, probably neither of those lofty goals :)

*a fine parchment is hung on the board of the PAJWT, with flowing elven script*

As commissioned... *the word is scratched out* permissioned, by Pickston Rickticks to post for the enjoyment of the PAJWT group, a song! Some of you have heard it before, and most will hear it again, but here is the work in rare parchment form for your perusal!

*shocked* Why! I've only just got here. I'd like to thank the bardic academy.... And my homies in cell block 6... and... and....

*grins* Just kidding, thanks so much for the mention, Merum! It's a pleasure to be part of such a fine group. Everyone I've met has been fantastic.... Finally a server where people actually stop to chat and listen to a tale instead of saying 'I gotta get to lvl 9 tonight so I can use my phat bastie'

It's great to be part of it, in any ...

Oh... Not only that, but when he's fixed...

He'll be 50 foot high and shoot lasers from his eyes. He'll cause armageddon in Port Royale by slamming his fist in the ground. It'll be quite a sight! I can't wait *rubs hands together*

I think that by hoarding they mean using the system to 'get rich quick'... If you find a chest that keeps popping out +3 items and don't report it, and keep going and looting it, it seems that would be abusal of mechanics.

With Nicodemus, I found a scarab of protection +3 on a corpse heading to the Icy Vale. Other than that I haven't found hardly anything on drops except one group of 8 cure light wound potions in a barrel, but I thought those were just lucky finds. He's only level ...
8.Re: Monk Equipment

On Monks...

I do agree. I enjoy monks, although my characters have never walked the 'monk' path for long. A monk in Vives is actually fantastic specifically because of the low magic world....

Monks know that life isn't fair. They are frail and fragile in the beginning. It's only after spending drastic amounts of time to learn their craft that they grow in power.

So a higher level monk takes a LOT more work to get there. But next to a higher level anything ...

Busking eh? Do you have a permit for that Wink

Hah. While I never get approached for that, on nearly every other turn of the guard's post, he tells me to put away my weapons (eh... which is a fiddle and a bow).

Now, like I've said in the game, I understand the mechanics behind how a violin and a stout bow are very ...

I agree entirely on the RP experience.

Now, Auberon Aurora, as most of you well know *grin* is a storyteller and travelling musician. And while I would never think that bards are underpowerful, Vives is far and away the best experience I've ever had playing a bard. It's my favorite class and great fun for RP.

I was never able to make it far with a bard in any campaign, nor other PWs, but with Vives variety and great playerbase, levels don't even truly matter much to a ...
11.Auberon's Songbook
Posted by Auberon on 2/17/2004 12:27:33 PM
(( OOC: I'm heading out of town for vacation for a week or so and then starting a new job. I had a few songs I haven't played, so I figured that I'd post them here for anyone who wants them... Just realize that you may hear them again at some point if I play for you IG *grin* ))

Bard's note: Well, I met up with Quinn, had a quick adventure, and then was rushed to the Seven Sisters. Along the way, I encountered something that seemed like a fantastically fun song idea!

Bard's note: It's always difficult compiling an anthology... And many songs don't follow well with others. For the purposes of this songbook, however, instead of grouping them together, I'm going to just put them in reverse order they were written in.

This is an elven song I wrote when I finally visited Ferein. May I want for no other place now. It translates well, but the lyrical quality is more obvious in Elven.

Bard's note: I've written a few songs of companions I've travelled with. I have many others in the works! Everyone I've met is more than worthy of a song, it's just finding the right style, verse, and hook to get it to work.

THE BRANDIBUCK DUNBROOK, INDEED

Of halflings, I must admit I know little.
Other than to watch my treasures.
But there is one, friends, who quite transcends,
The size of his simple measures.

It's Kayel Dunbrook of the ...

Bard's note: Another true story! Well, it was a PAJWT where I met Melphus. When we encountered a house with a strange beast inside, I simply made the comment that perhaps Melphus could speak with it... And you know how that goes.

MELPHUS AND THE YETI

There's a Yeti in the house, over there!
There's a Yeti in the house, over there!
Melphus can speak to many things,
Like trees, and dwarves, and mythic beings,
But when he went for a chat, he got struck ...

Bard's note: Just an odd little song I wanted to do for audience participation. When events happen in the song, you're supposed to mimic them, either the sounds or the shouts! Canton said it would be a fine drinking game, so perhaps even dwarves will enjoy it!

SOKE' AND THE HONEYDEW CAN

Soke' and the Honeydew Can,
Made quite an impression on the king.
When asked, of course,
The prince's horse
Whinied (nehehehe) the most absurd thing!

He ...

Bard's note: We all want stories of triumph and wild success in the face of danger! I accidently stumbled into it when I first met Nero... Well, I haven't seen him since, but after this I can't imagine that he's come to any harm.

THE HERO NAMED NERO KHALDOON

There's a hero named Nero Khaldoon,
Whose legend shall make women swoon.
His manner mysterious,
Will leave you delirious,
This hero named Nero Khaldoon.

I saw it all with mine own ...

Bard's note: It was in the great plains when I first met the mysterious Shaz'jen Diretch, the steadfast Loli, Guellenar Tider and Blanche La Belle. While we were talking of demons and trouble, giant trees walked from the woods and attacked us. Fortunately, I was able to get out of the way of the action to document notes for this song!

TROUBLE IN MIDOR

Trouble... is brewing... in Midor.
From outer borders, to inner gates.
Trouble... is brewing... in Midor.

Bard's note: This one has been posted on fliers and around Port Royale a few times, but for completeness I'm including it here. It's a fun little ditty about a fun little ditty.

PICKSTON AND JESSUP WILD TOURS

If size is a thing that you measure by height,
Then you're left with the knowledge you cannot be right.
'Cause Pickston Ricktick's as tall as the skies,
His cleverness darts nearly as fast as his eyes.

And Jessup the Younger is stronger ...

Bard's note: Another one that's 'been around the block' so to speak. My very first hit! Here for posterity, no doubt.

NOTHING LIKE AN ARROW TO THE GUT

Oh... There's...
Nothing like an arrow to the gut.
It's funnier than bludgeoning, most surprising than a cut.
It'll make you spring a leak,
That'll take a week to heal!
But it's straight! And to the point!
And more dramatic than a kill.

Yes... There's...
Nothing like an arrow ...

Bard's note: My very last for this anthology. But also a very special one to me. There's certain things we don't speak of. Deeds done, secrets broken, mistakes we've made, and of course... those we've lost. So this poem is dedicated to my brother Grymm, who fell too fast and flew so far.

THE EAGLES FLY

From the beacon of the shimmering sea,
Lay your weapons down with me.
Together, we shall row to shore
and fight the beasts of myth no more.

Ahh yes! Macha Sparrowsong... I remember that night. And actually, the Four Winds was quite a troupe of bards that evening, with Popé, Macha, and myself... But all the more entertaining! We each have our own style.

Some are strong in their convictions, singing bolsterous songs of courage!
Some are soft in their approach, like a nightinggale harking a sweet melody....
Some are poetic as they revel in enchanting weaves,
and some... (like me) have an odd sense ...

Thank you kindly for the words and a story for the ages!
