Miserable Thug Indeed
Posted: 17 Feb 2004 03:58 AM
Hi.

A word about the new miserable thug leader atop the hill on the great plains. A group of adventurers set out. There were four of us (level 10, 7, 7 and 4 I think with all our summons.) We had a grand time in cold canyon, but on the way back we all almost died several times to this fellow. I mean we had to use tons of healing potions and kits. It was a very grueling battle. In short, it was just silly. I mean, he's a road-side thug. I think he *really* needs to be tuned down. I could barely hit him (at level 10).

I mean it would have been absurd if we had died to this thug...a group of 4 adventurers falling to an overweight bandit. This is the sort of thing that leads to frustration :)

If he's not tuned down, then he should probably be offered a job as hero in some evil army, but either way, he doesn't belong on top of that hill running that simple racket.

If you think he is too tough a warrior how about the fact he is immune to magic. Not only that, he has the ability of deflecting lightening bolts to people standing no where near him. After 2 or 3 stray lightening bolts I was nearly having to fight this thug as well as my own party. They were somewhat peeved and bemused when they got struck by a wandering lightening bolt.

Not only that, even True Strike, which normally gives my feeble sorcerer near perfect accuracy with a bow, produced pin cusions for friends.

Then I discovered my problem. Despite demanding money by menaces, wacking me several times and nie on killing my companions it was the belief of Evaramier (surprisingly) that this here thug was a friend. This being so I could not target him but instead the game rather helpfully picked a target for me at random.

Now that is surely some neet trick and Im not sure about a position as a Soldier, more an infamous arch villain!

It was fun though!

He's a little on the stupid side, though. He took one look at Loli and told his companions to play nice around her, and then promptly started hitting on her weaker party member for a handout. Well, duh, she's not blind or deaf. He died for that, even though he did kill her companion because he was single-mindedly attacking that one and ignoring her.

And yeah, you have to target him intentionally.

Hmm ....... apologies about this :/

I think these are also the ones that have subdual?

Anyway, they will be "fixed" in the next update, as they make no sense being as tough as they are, where they are.

Cheers

Oh... Not only that, but when he's fixed...

He'll be 50 foot high and shoot lasers from his eyes. He'll cause armageddon in Port Royale by slamming his fist in the ground. It'll be quite a sight! I can't wait *rubs hands together*

I say keep him as tough as he is but let us get our hands on that Deflect Magic Devise if and when we finally defeat the little blighter!

he would be fine if he was considered neutral instead of friendly. At times he remains friendly while hitting you so you wont fight back. If your a caster you cant hit him with most spells while he is friendly so most(in my case if i hit one of them with a neg energy ray they all turn hostile) of your spells (lightning for example) will bounce around and hit the barrels and look like he is deflecting it at other things.

If he would just be made neutral instead of priendly it would be ok (i dont understand why it does this as you cna obviously hit people in your own group with lightning bolts while they are friendly).

As for not being able to hit him with melee i was with a few people (origionator of the post actually) and noticed that they missed quit an awful lot. Might just be that his DC is prety high which is ok, if yours is prety high you wont get hit much either.

As is he will be prety difficult for a lone levle 6-8 that is not either a mage or a fighter but thats ok since i dont think you are actually forced to fight. I like these lot much better than the former bandits.

((Yesterday I was about to enter the plains when a man ran into midor outskirts with that thug chasing him. Having seen the thug attack a weaker party member a couple days before that gasher decided to help. gasher doesnt use magic so i dont know about his resistance. At lvl 11 barbarian I had to roll a natural 20 for gasher to hit. So his ac may be a bit much.))

(( and he only attacks lower lvl type folks so you know they have to roll a 20))

He was a level 10 Fighter with a high AC, 140 hit points, and 22 strength, not to mention various higher level feats and special abilities...... he also had some buddies.

As of now they have been removed and replaced with something more appropriate to the area. Sorry for any troubles with this folks ;)

Cheers

i liked em ok. loved the concept , typical thug type looking for younger hopefully easier targets. Alot cooler than the old bandits just attacking everything that moved even if they knew they were hopelessly outmatched and were only going to die painfully. First I seen of that type of -actually are concerned about dying- npcs/creatures in nwn.

I think they should be moved inside the caves in place of the shapechanging bandits in there.

If i summon up a battle horror and lettem go at each other the battle horror can mop the floor wit the whole group all by its lonesome self, i think he's got 28ac and AB that dosnt exceed 18.
