DM Quests
Posted: 09 Dec 2003 06:47 PM
I've been playin here a while now and it seems to me over 90% of the Dm quests I've seen have been with longer-term players and at 15th level or so. I would suggest that when folks have time they might grab some mid- or low-level chars and run quests they can feel useful in. Perhaps even some advertized ones with a level cap. I'm afraid that one thing that might be happening here is that some players who fit in with the server's idea of what players should be like log in----play a while --feel ignored--and will leave. While I intend to ride out the holiday season and all the busyness involved with it, there may be others who dont get the same feeling from the folks here and would fit in if encouraged. Also midlevel advancement is beginning to seem glacial--not just slowly paced--somethin to think about.

We don't know how to fix a problem if it isn't presented to us in a fashion such as the forums or the PM system, hence why posts like this are a "good thing"™Tongue out. Anywho, we'll definately keep this in mind, and also started the 18th of this month expect the quests and such to DOUBLE as a lot of our DM's are back in their good days of free time and quest ideas to throw out at players from level 1 to level 20 (Personally I like quests for low levels anyway, but that's meTongue out.)

I completely agree. I might have said the same thing earlier, I have no clue, but I did think about it before. Too many people that can kill any monster that might be thrown at a group with some mid-levels (also, the midlevels can't even HIT the monsters chucked at them when questing with the hugemongous people) and there -is- that annoying cleric that is wont to raise people...

Hi :D

Sorry you have felt a bit "out in the cold" there......... it most surely is not our intention, and we have taken steps to rectify the situation that you highlight.

We now have 2 more DM's....... and will be concentrating more on newer players to the lands and those of a lower level.

Please accept my apologies on this....... we've just had a period where many of our DM's had a number of RL issues to take care of. However, in a lot of cases this is coming to an end, some are returning from University..... some, like myself are coming to the end of a very busy and important part of the Year Work-wise.. etc etc....

We are ware of it, and we are doing our best to rectify..... so here's hoping you will be part of some exciting DM events shortly :D (and that goes out to all new players).

Once again, our apologies.

Cheers

Ara

I'm new, and have played quite a long time without ever playing a DM'd adventure, and as such, this news is most exciting to me.

I hope I am a recipient of DM roleplay and adventure.

Thanks for this post!

Yeah, this past few weeks we've had a real lull. Most of the DMs seem to have all had RL issues come up at the same time, and thus our presence has not been what we'd like it to be.

Thank you all for understanding and responding---makes me realize I was right about Vives --it certainly is a labor of love---kinda comes thru in the preset quests from the beginning. Umm and I have an apology which might as well go here as anywhere---I flamed the IRC when I died at 35999 xp it was stupid of me and I'm sorry and thank you all for being understanding. *hugs*

I suggest betting 8000 xp with Fenarisk that Alosynth is not a woman, got me back my xp after a stupid death.

With a passion, Sion

Ps: No Fenarisk, I will never let that drop.

When in doubt, mumble. When in trouble, delegate.

I had a long reply written out, but then I realized it wasn't constructive to the issue, so I just erased it.
I'm going to poke around my ISP and see if I can get around on Vives. If I can, and if the locals need another DM, I'll dust off the old book of quests and see if I can make things a little more lively.. (;

My suggestion to you is to ask your favorite DM in irc if he could run a quest for a certain level range. You probably will not get a quest that same day but they will make a time for you next chance they get.

There are not alot of DM's right now and as q said they have alot of real life issues, the ones that are in the same position as me are busy with finals right now. As a result when they do run quests they want to include everyone. The positive is that everyone gets a chance to participate, the downside is that the group get so large that it is extrememly difficult to dm it (anything more than 5 people is too large) and usually it ends up being "comanderded" by a few level 15's or so (nothing bad meant to them) and lower levels generally do not have anything to do.

This is true as per the forums as well. As I said in another topic, posting that you have a group of 3-4 people that want to adventure together is PERFECT for us DM's to A) Prepare for, and B) Know the times and people who we can best DM for. THis helps a lot. On another note though, we do also take into consideration people in IRC and such giving us some feedback on quests, or also coming in to say "Hey I haven't had a quest in awhile" or "There aren't many rogue quests to do that involve our skills" (This is what Hades is refering to).

All this is fine, but please do NOT, and I can't stress this enough, come in A) Whining, or B) DEMANDING a quest or even telling us HOW to run quests. Not much really gets on my nerves except someone telling me how to do my job. Suggestions are fine, full out plot outlines and trying to teach us DM's is notTongue out.

I'd have to say that if a quest happens and a large level range seems to be getting involved, in my humble opinion, it would probably be best to remove one of the level groups from the event. I'd say do it high, or do it low. Don't try both.

For the low levels, in my opinion, they can't do anything beyond adding their characters RP. This may increase the enjoyment for other players by having another perspective, indeed I find it good to have people around no matter how much they help in combat, since I'm not playing the game for combat. But it sure is worse than actually being able to do something in the party. At least, I find it such when I'm in that situation.

For the high levels,I they have to neuter themselves and spend time worrying about the lower levels the whole time. I know I do when I'm playing Fri'el. Weighed down with buffs and res spells. It's bad RP Form, in my opinion, . to say "Piss off, you can't help" to the lower levels. As in manners, OOC. I don't wish to treat other players like that, be it politely or not, whatever my PCs alignment. However, it may well be what the characters would do; it's certainly the sensible thing to do. If you can't cast your powerful spells so you don't hurt your friends, you might not be able to defeat the foe. If you're sacrificing that ability willingly, you're foolish, or arrogant. Or insane. In my humble opinion.

I've been wanting to make that post for a while, after some quests where the level gap has been... extreme. I just kept forgetting. So there's my stupid little take on the whole "quests for huge level gaps" issue.

Oh... and if people don't want high levels getting involved with ongoing low level events, subtlety would be a good tactic.

All IMHO, as usual.
