Favorite Vives moments?
Posted: 14 Jan 2010 09:09 AM
Over my time playing Vives, I've had massive amounts of fun, but three moments really stand out in my mind as my favorites.

One, one of my earliest memories, can be found here.

http://vives.dyndns.org/vives/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=54853

And this one here reminds us all why Mages are never to be trusted.

http://vives.dyndns.org/vives/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=38746#59718

And lets not forget the time Alton imploded Vrodo while he was tracking Atalan for us in Bloodwood. I don't think that half-orc knows what really happened to this day. There's a log of this somewhere hidden in the shoutouts, but I'm not going to go looking for it, that thread is far too long.

Post some of your own favorites, lets reminisce.

Agreed. However for me probably some of the most memorable moments were a long... too long, time ago. Namely, and also first was when Jade Night and Calmeir tried to form a force of good called the Emerald Order. It was short lived, but really good times.

Then there was a long period of interactions between Calmeir and Quies, which was honestly some of the most moving moments I have witnessed. Tears, and laughs, and in general strong emotions and full fledged RP came out of those times. Quies had a way of raising your own RP to whole new heights.

Then shortly after Quies went away I started in with Ana. She has had many great up and downs as well. Quite a few involving Benny *points to post above*.

It's been a lot of years for me. I can hardly remember details, but I do remember that great times were had, and hopefully will continue on into the future. (assuming Cecil can muster the strength to carry on, and that we can get more people here. (Not that the ones we have are bad, it would just be great to have more.))

Anyway, sorry no specific links that I can point to for reference.

*walks down a quiet memory lane*

Been thinking about this question... hard to say!

Got to go with (in no order at all):

-All five times I have encountered Jessup the Younger IG, and was completely insolent towards him.

-The first carnival and market day that Salt was a part of at the Buckshire fair grounds, where Lucius bought him out of alchemical supplies. "Shopkeeper" was pretty much the persona I had in mind when I rolled up Salt.

-Low-level adventures, whether it was the recruiting week some years back, or the Game Warden's turn at running things when the server went quiet. The adventuring troupe that met at the Four Winds every week for a while was lots of fun.

-Every time a horror storyline has come together for Halloween-time, I have loved it. The Sugar Man storyline stands out, as it had everyone in such a twist. Everyone played their parts amazingly, I mean over the top, and for a little while the server was running CoC instead of NWN.

-Vrodo being attacked by Tarikians outside of the Oakhouse when I was pretty new to the server. Even more: Vrodo stalking one Atalan archer in the woods outside of the Four Winds, and being totally outmatched.

-Vrodo crafting with Gwyneira.

-The times when Vrodo could be in service to the druids of Vives, whether it was Gwyneira or Amon. Helping Amon and Saana to clean up the dead at Haven, and later to clean out the Halls of Bregodim.

-Benny bringing life to Ferein through a series of quests and errands. Playing on the server all afternoon when I should have been working!

-Shale cooking with Fennigan!

Many, many more. Too many to list. See photobucket albums here.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about dying."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

I had almost forgotten about that. You know, all of your characters have been wonderful to interact with renter. I can't think of a time I haven't throughly enjoyed myself around any of them.

As a matter of fact, my first character, a failed elven ranger, had his, and my first, encounter with another player that was more than just seeing them, when he ran into Salt outside the four winds and had a short conversation with him.

I remember Salt dancing around trying to hide behind a tree because of that silly mage group whats-his-name came up with, some gnomish necromancer.

Thanks Talos!

Speaking of first contact... you know before I started on Vives, I didn't know you could type things into the chat bar and have those words appear above your head at dialogue. I don't think I knew about emoting either, and I certainly didn't know how to walk. Fixtrix had to explain to me about holding down the shift key, etc. So figuring out the RP capabilities of this game all happened on Vives. Maybe that's why I'm spoiled for any other server out there.

Hmm, hard to say, but Ronan and Lirnna on top of the hill, shooting down all trolls that dared face them is a nice memory. As was the time Ronan got his hands on a wand of wonder and much punning ensued. Or maybe the time Mhoraethian had a long sit down with a certain character who wielded a flaming scythe, a very long time ago.

Lots of memories. Oh and hi ;)

Hi to you too Kand :)

Ah yes, Ronan, the original 'bald guy' (sorry Salt), at least 25% of the aforementioned 'hundreds' of great moments were down to him.

As for losing afternoons renter, worry about it when you wonder where weeks and months went :P

I finally removed 1.68 from my computer because I needed the space so I doubt I'll be back any time soon, sadly enough. Not like I have time to play much anymore these days...

So many great moments on Vives. However, for my money, the Midoran plot is one of the finest/most intricate/most interesting plots I've ever run across in any server. Probably the reason I've never stayed incredibly long on any other server is that I've never found anything that came close to duplicating that....ah, well.....

Favorite vives moments ... ?

Thats hard to say. Real hard... It's a safe bet my top 1000 role playing moments came in vives, from both player and DM perspective. Many many excellent roleplayers and even more great characters and moments and storylines.

If forced to pick I'd have to go with a generalized answer. My favorite Vives moments came from spur of the moment interaction with the dm client. The little things that just made folks appreciate the living breathing aspect of vives.

On the fly quests that could lead to something deeper or not ,or merely a staggering drunk in port royale. Maybe even the ugliest orc lady in the universe becoming smitten with a valiant paladin of midor.Little random things that breathed life into this beautiful world.

From finally making the ranks of an emerald order , to half orc twin hosted cookouts , to retired fishing in some of the mothers finest waters, and the many adventures in between , playing has provided many great moments as well.

I wish you all the best and hope to travel these lands with you again.

I think I really enjoyed Daimon running for Mayor. I actually thought I had a chance too. Everyone showed me a lot of support, even though a lot of Daimon's old clique weren't around anymore, (nor had they returned yet)

I think I enjoyed Vives the most During my moments with the Archers, you know who you are. The whole process was thoroughly enjoyable, and I am honored by the original invitation.

Ultimately, I'd like to thank the DM's and the cast of PC's that went along to the point of creating events for... some of my more "creative" ideas, such as my exploits in Vives Kickboxing, Blind adventuring, bounty hunting, archaeological digging, and all of the events concerning all things Samurai. I wasn't serious when I started making some of these characters, but you guys managed to take me seriously long enough to make an original thing, a real thing, and stretch NWN even a tad further.

Thanks.

So many! A few that come immediately to mind:

...Fri'el beating the living snot out of Ula when she destroyed one of her undead playthings;
...an argument between Cedrych, Rosen and Ula that was like something out of The Real World;
...epic chess battles with Robber Baron;
...feeling so important and connected during the Tear quest in Ferein;
...testifying during Dana's trial;
...The God Squad smiting everything in their path in every undead nest they could find;
...inventing Midoran custom and ritual on the fly with Fictrix;
...commissioning a song for romantic revenge;
...making the gruesome discovery in the Paws woods;
...inadvertently christening the Small Stones orphanage;
...meeting Oragastus on my first login, who offered to buy sulphur from me to help me start out;
...having wonderful frenemy relationships with Juylina. Fri'el, and Macha;
...standing up to Vidus Khain in his office

This world has become a part of my life, as have all the characters who have inhabited it along with me. A sincere thanks to all who have played, and all who work tirelessly and largely thanklessly to keep it going.

If I recall correctly, I believe the more accurate description would be "being five seconds away from dying in Vidus Khain's office"

Wow.

For me it would have to be all the people who had anything to do with the "Guyver" movement, including, (and probably even most importantly), those who were against it. I never got to find out what the DM's thought about it in private, but I will always be thankful to Gasher for his open minded, and incredibly creative approach to it.

There were so many incredible moments in mister Jaxons existance, but it's funny how the simplest thing stands out. The single most greatest moment for me was when, after having the crap burned out of him and going home in defeat to the Guyver store, he walked in to find a sandwich made for him by the Mother. Man, that affected me for days, and I think inspired some of the most heartfelt writing I have ever done.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who put up with the moody little guyver and shared great adventures and wild schemes. I couldn't tell you what I would give to sit around a large table with all of you someday and play some good old fashioned PnP.

There are many great moments for me here, and oddly I am still looking for more. I've finally got a spot of time free for a few weeks after what seems like months and months of none. I just can't let go of this place. I would like to build another one with the same spirit that this one had just so as to draw in a community of dreamers and players again.

I had good times with the Dethedes stuff because it drew in a number of players and DMs, and I got to play characters from Kobai that related to the story line. I had good times playing opposite DSM's Ophelia.

But strangely the one moment that just stands out in my mind time and time again when I remember Vives fondly, was of Barnas playing a half-elf character from Port Royale - Natalya or something - who was raising funds to start the Small Stones orphanage. This was less than a week after I discovered Vives in Feb of 2006 - four years ago - and I had never RP'd online before. I was still new to NWN as well.

So Natalya was standing by the large tree adjacent the well of the four winds inn, and I decide to try this RP thing. While I'm just getting into it, other players wander by and join the conversation. Soon I forget that I am RPing and forget that I am playing a videogame. My character is for the moment real because Vives feels real. 20 people or so were logged in and wandering about the world, interacting with one another while invisible DMs seemed to be everywhere. The place had a life of its own that would go on after I logged out.

The next day at work my mind wandered to that tree beside the well outside the Four Winds Inn as if it was a real place, and I wondered who was meeting beside it.

I was hooked.

*waves*

Wandering by for the first time in a long while, and this was a great topic to spot.

Wont even try to answer which was my favourite moment. There were far too many.

- Be it Barnas DM'ing Phoenix, Soapie, Sol and I on the Naruthian quests.
- Ficcy and her unbounded enthusiasm, creativity and sense of fun.
- Kicking back with pdw and Ara.
- Ara DM'd the first ever DM quest I played, and got me hooked there and then. The origins of my own Netharu / demon plot came from that solitary session he DM'd way back when.
- Being blown away by the rp Benny invariably got involved with. Especially with Aesir.
- Jessup and the Hand. The underworld of Vives was always so much fun, largely thanks to him

Or countless other examples. As someone above said, some of the best rp I have ever known happened right here.

Thanks for the memories, take care all!

too many to choose from

As a DM, one of the "off the cuff" events I ran involved a certain hag with a joy of magic missiles chasing a couple of dwarves all over the place in a certain forest, followed up by the undead skeletons they disturbed.

The memorable part was how close to death the two players were, and how long I was able to keep them on the edge without killing them. That's really hard to do, especially doing it for over an hour or two.

The players played it smart and didn't do anything stupid which made it even more fun.

Getting physical challenges like that right is very hard to do.

As with many here, there are way too many to choose from.

The sessions with Quies and Calmeir, any character that Barnas played (Fri'el in particular though), running around Vives as a Naruthian and killing guards with flaming umbrellas (together with Barnas, Sirac and Solitaire), each and every little romp with PDW (Lucifer and Luther), Ficcy's and Chief's superbly insane and completely hilarious characters....

I've spent 2000 hours total if not more on this server. That in itself is quite the endorsement that Vives always was and will be my favourite rpg server!

I have reread this thread so much.

From what I recall in no particular order.

- Jessup meeting with Jerac and talking to him for over an hour.
- Being stabbed by Virallax. *eye twitch*
- Fengus becoming the Savior of Fearin
- Ficcy and I rping gnomes. Tubaskofaknee anyone?
- Running the Sugar Man story. Renter and DSM were amazing. You RP'd superbly.
- Nico using dimension door to move one foot at a time.
- Nico becoming Jessup's assistant.
- Nico becoming Jerac's assistant.
- Nico becoming Nu'men's assistant.
- Sir Percival Sanner pissing off all the paladins on the server. *twinkle*
- Plotting the Midor hiest with Johe and the Guyvers.
- Fat Sam and Johe Jaxon's animosity.
- Jessup picking on Willom Wilde.
- Of course...all the Wild Tours. Free fruit basket still available.

ONWARD AND UPWARD!

sooo many things...

One of the things I enjoyed were the "Wild Tours - Your Death Guaranteed, or we'll drop a stink bomb on ya"

I never got to go on enough of them.

I did run my own tour once, a sort of the off the cuff when a bunch of players were in Buckshire. It was Luther's tour of places you should never go, ever, ever, ever. It turned into a tour of Undreath into quite a few areas that many players had never seen before, including the beholder tunnels.

Ara saw that happening, jumped IG as a DM and livened it up. Luckily there were three clerics in the party as I don't think that more than 2 were dead at any one time. The beholder tunnels were particularly bad. As was the Atlan gate. I think we racked up more deaths in those couple of hours than the rest of the server did in the previous months.
