I'm not touching that subject with the Pole of Infinite Length, and any sane person would be wise to do the same.

And, well... I guess that's it, as anything I could say would be a nudge to the lid of this Pandora's Box.

That blogger says:
"I created this blog to find support for and follow my progress in letting Electronic Arts know that their biggest attack on Christian values to date will not be tolerated."

Unlike the Anti-Sporian blogger, I don't see Spore as EA's biggest affront to all that is good and holy in the world. That position is jointly held by Atari's release of Temple of Elemental Evil (1) and anything ever released by Derek Smart (2). I do however see Spore as EA's biggest insult to date against gamers and to personal computing security, reliability, and personal privacy.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/10/spore_drm_amazon_effect/

While The Register is akin to a geek version of the National Enquirer or The Sun, they're not the only online source spouting off against this particular brand of DRM. EA's DRM scheme is in stark contrast to Stardock's recently released and highly-publicized The Gamer's Bill of Rights (3). You know which camp I sit squarely in.

Yes, I've forgotten how to clickify in the forums here, but here's another link completely unrelated to Mykal's intended topic. :p

Here, done it for you.

On the less sensitive topic of gaming, I allow myself to make a remark.

I don't have Spore, but it seems like it could have been a fun game to play. Certainly, it is a new and interesting idea and I congratulate EA on [Finally!!! (with three exclamation marks)] releasing one for a change.

Yes, piracy is a problem that plagues video gaming in general and PC gaming in particular, and demands some sort of solution before it damages the industry irrevocably - possibly by scaring all developers and publishers into making unimaginative multiplayer focused Halo clones or worse: the life-sucking, social-life-murdering, normality-devouring, sanity-destroying vampire known as the Massively Multiplayer Online Game.

Trying to fight piracy by punishing the legitimate buyer is like trying to fight theft by cutting off the arms of every person in the world. Effective, maybe, but people won't stand up for it.

Ironically, Spore may die before it even has the chance to grow; unless EA reconsider their DRM and stop being jerks for a change.

EDIT: Links fixed.

This is funny.

The author of the site posted a quote of a supposed scripture. I'll let the quote speak for itself:

“21. The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never gonna give you up.
22. “Never gonna let you down.”
23.”Never gonna run around and desert you.”
24. “Never gonna make you cry.”
25. “Never gonna say goodbye.”
26. “Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.”
27.”Never truly believe anything you read on the Internet. There will always be cases of Poe’s Law.”

It takes all sorts to fill the world. The author of the antispoor site is just one of them.

As for DRM, I now will not buy under and circumstances any game that has DRM of any sort.

NWN2 was the last one I bought. dang thing didn't work on my machine and refused to run because of the @#$%@#$ securerom garbage. I had to go find a nocd version of the executable in order to make it run.

Any business that tries to treat their customers as thieves deserves to fail. A lot of software companies in the 80's got burned from their attempts at "copy protection". It appears the lesson has been lost with the currently generation of companies, may their income drop to 0.

Heeheehee...

To anyone who missed WA's comment above:

The site is a hoax.

Read "Understand my beliefs please" and take a closer look at the quoted scripture.

And here's an explanation for those who've never been rickrolled before and don't get the joke:

We've been Rickrolled!

I read threw the latest article, blinked, re-read it, and then laughed.

That was incredibly well-done. I haven't read the rest of the Blog, but I'm now curious if the author is a religious "nut" or if he's a satirist.

Poe's Law states:
"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."

It makes a lot more sense now. Even though I wouldn't put it beyond religious fanaticism, there is a lot of contradiction between the point the author is "trying to make" and the way he/she chooses to make them. It's like trying to make an anti-porn protest by running a porn site.

Having never being Rickrolled before, I find it hilarious.

Maybe it's some EA publicity scam! That would be disappointing, but I wouldn't put it beyond those snakes.

Definatly an example of phenominally subtle satire. I find it rather brilliant. Much the same way I found this Jack Chick tract brilliant and insightful. The thing about the antispore website that I find so brilliant is the fact that the author took an extreme position that's easy to critizise, then turned it on it's ear by showing how quickly people will begin flinging their vitrol without even reading what is written.

And here you guys thought I was trying to stir up a religious debate. Pfft!
As the comments on the antispore site said, "I award the author one internets."

Read it - loved it - wish there were more!

"What's that supposed to mean?"
