Assistance requested

A small message is added to the bulletin boards in the inns across Vives. Wanted: Brave adventurers and fellow travelers who would be willing to accompany a beautiful lady in the quest to set some things right. I have been tasked to track down several escaped villians, and make sure they return to the jail they came from. It will be a dangerous assignment - but one that may have dire consequences if not completed in a timely basis. If you are interested in joining me on this endeavor, please contact me at the Four Winds Inn as soon as you are able, as I have only a mere week to complete this task. Details will follow.

Shale watched the red woman post her paper along with the other posts for wanted men, just inside the door to the Girdled Gut in the Port Royale slums.
He was in the room behind the bar, arms coated in flour up to the elbows, wearing a tacky stiff apron. He was shirtless underneath. Shale had moved a table so he could watch the front door as he worked, punching down bowls of leavened bread and turning them out onto the table, kneading each loaf twenty times and then sliding them aside. When ten loaves were finished he covered them with a towel to keep the flies off and walked out onto the bar room floor.
The red woman had gone. He read the small message, pinched between floured fingers.
"Bounty work, aye?"
He took off his cap and scratched ferociously at an itch in his scalp. Ree-tarned ter jail, he thought? H'ain't been sah much law in Port inna wharl. Maybe they ain' goin' ter jail in Port. Maybe they's wanted bah th' Elves... Or somebodeh.
Shale flicked the note a few times with his index finger. "Four Winds Inn," he read aloud.
He charged back into the kitchen and took off his apron. Underneath it, sheathed at his belt, were a pair of knives side-by-side, one with a fine dagger blade, one with a straight thin blade with a single edge, a boning knife.
Shale pulled on his tunic and grabbed up his leathers, and slapped the bartender on the backside on his way out. "Goin' aout," he said. "Git some'un ter bayld a faar in th' faarbox. Ah'll be back a'fore long." |

"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

Stopping by the Icy Vale inn after recovering from a disagreement with a white pudding, Turandir notices the poster on the wall.
The Great Teachers said that even when all else fails, justice must be foremost in ones mind. If that is indeed what the Red Ones task is about, i shall see it through. It may well be time to leave the harsh dangers of the frozen lands, in favour of the subtler dangers of civilization.
With that thought he turns on his heel and heads in the direction of the ships in Ladriel. |

Eltarial saw the message as she passed the four winds inn on her way back from Ferien. She was pleased to see that the strange, human-like elf was doing something useful, but then, rereading the message saw that the criminals had escaped from Port Royale.
'As if there are any villains as foul as those that abide by the laws of that vile city.' she thought 'If they have escaped, then fair fortunes follow them, and may they maim or kill as many of the cursed demon-worshipers as they may.'
If Ruby wished to recapture the prisoners then they had better be as evil as the worse of the corrupt nobles of the port, or that mockery of an elf would have to face Eltarial's sword and spell and guile before she did. |

Frustration and worry had her thoughts in a stranglehold as Ruby slipped out the door to the Four Winds Inn. So far, so good, she thought to herself as she strode out into the rain. Several of the humanoids have agreed to assist me thus far. A pair of humans, Shale - and Joaquin.. a monk I think - whom I had met once before. Also Orsk, an ancient but sturdy looking orclun, has agreed to help. "At least I will have allies to accompany me on this journey thus far, " she muttered to herself. "Even if I have to part with some of my hoarde..."
Arriving at the Novus Aristi office, she pulled a small letter from a safe place in her bag and presented it to the lady at the counter. "Please see to it that Markus recieves this letter. It is very important that I speak to him soon." Passing the girl a small handful of gold for her trouble, and after a sizable donation to the coffers, Ruby again continued on her way. "At the very least this trip had better prove to be profitable... The time and money I have already invested in this trip would make me a laughing stock amongst my peers... Oh well, all there is to do now is wait for these humans to come to me."

A note, written in an elegant italic hand, on what appears to be a leaf torn from a book; and slipped into one of Ruby's pockets reads as follows:
Ruby The Red.
I know of your intention to lead an expedition to Abbadon.
Whether this expedition be to free souls from that place or send them there (and I suspect that whatever your intentions the latter shall be the fruit of such a quest) I courteously ask that you abandon this mission. The dangers of such a quest are beyond those of death itself, for even the return to earth my be denied to those that fall in such a place.
I know also that you intend to travel to and from your destination using an enchanted stone.
It is of the greatest importance that this item should be disposed of safely. I ask therefore, that you travel with me to Ferein, and present this rock to the mages there. The magic they wield is great and they may yet know of a way to dispel the enchantments placed on the stone.
Should you refuse me either request then I shall be obliged to remove the stone from your possession by any means necessary. For though you are my sister elf, and those 'gentlemen' in your employ are as but the dust, which falls upon the leaves of Ferein, your actions show contempt for the mothers domain.

*Written in a barely legible childlike manner and smelling of meat.*
I was walkin inta the inn today and normally I don’t go there. Normally I just walk by or use the horses because I don’t like to walk. But somethin inside me said to stop inside. So I did. Now I don’t do this sorta of thing anymare because I don’t like it. I have not picked up my sword in months. But my stomach has been a hurtin and growing large because of all the meat Ettin really. I like Ettin A lot! Ettin meat the best. Especial the inner parts of the thighs on the Ettins. So anyways went to see a sister eventhough they don’t really like me much because of the thing with the Gabrial’s Yousurper and they say I eat to much meats and not enough greens and don’t move around enough and that’s why my belly getting big and fat. *A stain that might be blood but its hard to tell* Not because I am with child which is what I feared at first. So that is good. Anyways I walked in and normally I don’t look at the things posted on walls because reading them for to long makes my head hurt and they usually talk about doing stupid things like help capture *this next part is scribbled out but still readable* (esxcaped criminals)I mean bears. But sumtin inside me tells me I need to ask what this is about. Normally I stopped listen to that voice because its wrongs most of the time. I finger what the hecks maybe I can helps. Eventhough I don’t really feal like it because my belly is fat and my stomachs hurts. Okays that’s all. Oh leave a note or sumtin at the Guyvers store.

With a two fingered hand, she slams the above message next to Ruby’s. She stares at her own message for a moment, tapping her lips and chewing on the inside of her cheek, then says*
“MmmHmm…I wonder if I talked to much about Ettins.”
*lets out a loud burp and leaves* |
