New Occasional Adventuring Party Posted: 24 Sep 2007 04:49 PM |
So while I'm having fun with Cedrych, someone's post about starting up a new adventuring group, a la D&D PnP (old-school!), got me thinking about starting up a brand new spiffy 1st level character. Sometimes I think the first few levels are the most fun because you have to be somewhat careful, and I hate to admit it, there's just something cool about entering a new area and getting 44 xp.
The only thing more fun than starting up a new PC is having a few others start up at the same time, so.....
Wondering if there might be a few people out there who'd like to start new PCs at the same time and arrange a "chance meeting of fate" at the four winds and start an adventuring party that meets generally regularly at the same time one, two or more times a week? My hope would be (but I'm not wed to this) that we'd typically just play those PCs at those times in order to keep us generally around the same level or so. I thought this might be fun for several reasons:
1) Many of us have more established PCs that we want to keep going and continue those stories, but it's nice to take a break, play a different character AND still have numerous RP opportunities that a party might provide.
2) chance for new players and website lurkers to come back with some immediate opportunities for RP with other people.
3) Can't speak for anyone else, but with a full time job and 2 kids under 5, I have limited time for Vives (usually in the evenings), so when I get on, I like to maximize my time for RP, so having a set time to see people would be cool.
Have I sold you?
The problem, of course, is schedules and being able to keep to them what with busy RLs. But I thought it might be fun to try, see how things play out. Maybe some people splinter off, some show up more often than others, whatever....could be fun!
With job, family and being on the Pacific Coast, I'm really only available on any good schedule in the evenings starting around 7 p.m. PST. This may not work well for others, so maybe there could be an East Coast group and a West Coast group (and they could be rivals and have gang wars), throw in a Europe group, get the Australians together...whatever. I'm thinking maybe at the beginning twice a week...maybe???
So post something here if you're interested, along with what times and any other thoughts you might have. Don't want to make it too complicated, so whatever works. Hopefully we can get a little group(s) going.... |

I wouldn't be adverse to it, but I'm on the East coast. Might be able to swing playing 10PM twice a week during weekdays, would just have to do some pre-game napping to make sure I still get my 8 hours in As long as you're only talking two or three hours at a time :X |

Since I've moved, I'm part of the West Coast group, so...
If we get Hene, I'm game. (:
It sounds like a lot of fun, but despite having a new time zone, I still find myself on the dark side of the moon in terms of others to run around with (at a convenient time). Plus, I still have to finish mah skoolin', so I couldn't guarantee that I'd be around very often.

I would go for this. And later is better from where I'm sitting... 7:00 PM PST works just fine. Maybe we post little character backgrounds in this thread, to see how the party is shaping up?
As an aside... I could also just wait until the party is leveled up to around 7 or 8 and then introduce one of my existing low-level characters. That wouldn't exactly be the same thing though... |

If we get Hene, I'm game. (:
What? Why do you need me? I am horribly unreliable as a player - which is why I posted my "goodbye" early this year. Since that time I haven't played much of a role in Vives. I struggle to get Saana in game as it is.
So anyway, I am quite flattered, but I really hope that my lack of involvement won't hold you back from getting in this. It sounds like a blast, and I'll try to log in and join whenever I can but I can't commit to being a regular.
By the way, I have made two low level characters just for this kind of thing. I'll log in if I get a chance and join up with you. Here's some backgrounds on them:
Einarr Balderson. Dwarf. Wizard. Clubfooted. Comes from a family of hard rock miners, with the occasional smith. Unfortunately due to his clubfoot, he is not much of a miner, and to the shame of his family he was indifferent about smithing. He was thus the black sheep of his clan, shunned, and ignored. He spent much of his youth alone with his nose in a book, and during that time developed an interest in magic, spells and enchantment. Then it occurred to him that with magic he could craft great and beautiful weapons for his clan. If he could just learn these arts abroad, perhaps he could return one day to the Halls and regain their respect. Unfortunately the Halls are now destroyed....
Blackjack. 1/2 orc. Barbarian. From M'Gok Tukar, his fierce independence was broken by the Duergar slavers. He has a fear of dwarves, and given his propensity for rage (presumably from being mistreated by abusive dwarven authority figures) has a surprisingly odd knack for following orders. He wanders the world looking for a good boss to follow, and bad things to smash. |

Hmm...Well, if Hene isn't going to join Team Awesome, I guess I'll have to recruit someone else.
But who...?

| Yah, I'll join up, the Tue Wed Thur gap is perfect for me, I can pull some nappage off and make it for a 10PM EST game. No idea what sort of character I'll make, if I'm even welcome with my East Coastiage. Usually just make it up on the spot. |

Well, I'm european... I can't promise I can make it regulary though, I'm overburdened with work at the moment. Also, I simply have no character idea anymore... I made a lot, but after a longer break it comes down to only one or two characters I'd really like to continue playing, the main one being already at 14. I have a few of those strange experiments in my vault, but as funny as they are on first sight, I never really got into them. If I can come up with a new idea for a char I'll be able to play longer than two days, I'd be interested in joining though. |

Re: New Occasional Adventuring Party Posted: 25 Sep 2007 01:14 PM |
Good to see there's some interest.
Tuesday is definitely a good night.
Wednesday might work too.
Thursday bad. Not only work, but also The Office/Grey's Anatomy going on (yes, my guilty pleasure, I like to watch beautiful people in a hospital, so sue me! ;)
I suppose we probably shouldn't touch Friday or Saturday, although I'm game for them because, as noted above, I have no life.
Should we shoot for next Tuesday evening and see how it goes, starting say 7-7:30 p.m. PST? I suppose we could try for tonight, but that's not much notice, I guess. If next Tuesday is cool, I'll post something at some point this week.
As for characters, I think part of the fun is finding out about each other IG, but it wouldn't be bad to post a very rough/short character sketch just so we're not all duplicating each other, as Henesua has already done (as usual, he's leading the pack)...although, who knows, maybe it would be fun to have a party with all half-orc barbarians?
I'm probably going to try a wizard or sorceror because I don't usually play them. No other details at this point.
Finally, just to reiterate, anyone is welcome to join, even if you're not sure you can make every week...supposed to very relaxed and laid back, just like the old PnP days. |

| I'm mulling over a paladin, actually. But I gotta look into what restrictions are put on paladin's these days. |

Debating on whether I'll try my hand at Fighter or Ranger.
As well as...Character history. I can't decide anything about him (or, even, her) right now. It's horrible and heart-rending.
I've got a nice, pretty name, though. (: |

Nobody's said cleric yet... but I'm working out a gnomish druid were-badger.
Edit: this is done - Otse Who was Bitten By a Badger is now residing at the Four Winds Inn, ready to go. |

I would like join this party especially as my favorite character is currently level 3 (and will be taking cleric levels). Unfortunately I am in GMT and barely get 8 hours sleep as it is.
Have fun. |

Half-Orc Barbarian?
Have you ever done that before? :P
Let's take a list of what we have: Wizard/Sorcerer, (Imperious) Fighter, (Myself) Paladin?, (Tasra) Druid, (Renter) Bard, (Spacious) Rogue?, (Casa)

Re: New Occasional Adventuring Party Posted: 27 Sep 2007 02:44 PM |
| I'm considering a caster actually, because my vault is full of rogues, and I know that class in and out. I suck at playing casters and I never liked them much, that's why I should probably try one. :D |

I recommend to anyone Monk, with two of the following: Cleric, Sorcerer, Ranger, Rogue, (red dragon disciple).
Lots of spells, lots of attacks and pets to boot. Great fun! |
