Event: Four-feet tall and six-feet under Posted: 26 Sep 2007 07:34 AM |
Rumors spread that an elven druid has been speaking quietly with his small circle of friends seeking those willing to aid him in what could prove a dangerous task.
((We don't have a specific time set yet, but sometime around October 6 in the evening (CST), contact Amon IG to find out more about it and in the meanwhile, lets see who might be available.)) |

He had gathered quite a force so far.
Fia, his good friend always willing to help. Vrodo, the orclun ranger, he served Helkris, and while the druid did not trust the lady of ice, he trusted Vrodo. Tristian had also pledged his aid. Saana, though she had reservations and certain events made her hesitant, had said she would join in the task as well. Valethrion seemed to belive he would be unavailable, but promised he would try to join in. Even the little hin Buck Swift said he would be willing to help.
Perhaps if he had posted a public notice asking for adventurers there would be more takers, but it was important to keep this mission quiet. If Midor were to catch wind of it, or any number of other factions, it could prove even more difficult than anticipated.
"As it stands now, we may still have trouble should any of the deep dwarves find their way to the halls. And Mother forbid those blasted atalan." He sighed quietly.
There is another he could ask, one he still does not trust fully. One who's arrogance greatly tried his patience on every meeting. And he still wished to contact the dwarven priest, Crouva.
Quickly scribbling down a note, he traveled to Ferien leaving it with one of the dwarf who still are on the shore. He hoped it would get passed on, but there was no way to be sure.
Crouva,
I seek your help, or at least your advice. I am Amon, druid of Ferien, and servant of the Mother. We have met in passing once, though you may not remember me. I wish to speak with you about events to come soon. Please seek me out, or contact me at the Icy Vale Inn. |

((Just a reminder that this is still scheduled, I think sometime between 6 and 8 pm CST would be good, depending on what is most convenient for everyone.))
After a futile trip to visit Lex on behalf of Salt and Tristian, Amon still had other work to do.
Cedrych, Tristian, Fia, Vrodo, Saana, Valethrion, and Buck, he traveled leaving a message at various locations where each was likely to visit.
Three days until our task, seek me in Icy Vale.
Recent events cause me to add this request, bring help, only those you trust. We may well need it.
Amon. |

"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

The orclun ranger worked quickly while the elf looked out into the mountains, they had seen no sign of trouble except for the usual fare but it paid to be careful. The noise to anyone listening would seem little more than the orcs cutting timber. Before long they had gathered a great deal of lumber and quickly departed.
They stole away quietly into the halls, the stench of decay was all that greeted them. Into the residential district, the elf located a reasonable spot to squirrel away their heavy load. They stacked and pushed the logs under one of the raised houses. This still would not be enough, but they had pressed their luck too much already. This load stored here before hand, and another load gathered from the woods on the day of the trip, that should suffice for the task at hand.
Once they had finished, the elf looked to the mailbox and the name engraved upon it.
Raimonds Mountainhand
The two figures moved off, satisfied that at least part of this was done.
((Renter and I stored away some wood, hopefully it will be there for the event.)) |

There were fewer than he had hoped for, and one he had never laid eyes upon before this day, but the only choice was to proceed. Vrodo, Wrin, Buck, and the druid departed the inn, not knowing that what they would soon face would not be Atalan or Duergar.
The four ventured onwards, riding to Mirghul, past the home of the goblins and beyond. It was clear early on that some force was fighting against them. Something taunted them, tried to break their resolve, but the druid worked hard to motivate. "Ignore any voice but my own!"
Though unnerved, he knew this was a feeble attempt at trickery, whatever this entity was, this absence he felt, if it had in it the ability to do more it would have. They were few in number and could have been easily dispatched. Deceptions, illusion and darkness, all attempts to force them to run.
More joined, a dwarf who once called these halls home, Fengus, and soon after Tristian arrived.
More lies, more tricks, blindness darkness, the air would not carry their voices more than a few yards away. But they pressed onward, he begged the Mother to steel his will, and soon the work began. Duergar and Atalan, together on one side, what few of the Bregodim dwarves that remained on the other. He may not have known what rites the dwarves might have for their dead, but he knew at least they would not wish them burned atop the invaders.
The darkness rebelled and doubled its efforts, darkness, cold, it began to feed on the light around them, stripping away the Mothers blessings, and oppressing her voice. But still they worked on. Soon all were gathered and laid in their respective places. And then the fires were lit.
The flames danced and lashed out at the darkness, pushed back the chill, and soon overtook it entirely. The absence was filled with the warm embrace of the Mother, the darkness fled. As he watched the flames grow to consume the dead, he saw something else. Within the flames, looking back upon him, a shimmering white form came into focus. In the heart of the fire stood a white stag.
He bowed his head and smiled. That the avatar of Elbereth would come here, his heart lifted with joy to be be so blessed. And then it dipped its head, one antler touching a branch within the flames, one unconsumed by the fires. He reached his hand in slowly, the flames parting before his fingertips and grasped the stave, drawing it from the pyre. This, this was for him.
((Really, thank you to everyone who came along, I know it wasn't some exciting battle, but I had a great time, hope you all did as well. Thanks as well to the the dm's, )) |
