Prolonged Time Stop?
Posted: 05 Dec 2006 03:08 AM

This is the second time I've died because of a situation like this; but certain spell casters (Se'eth and the Witch of Forgorn) are very prone to casting the "Time Stop" spell to buff themselves and to deal damage to whatever adventurers that are nearby.

In this instance, I was under the effect for maybe ten rounds; against Se'eth, even longer.

Now, I have no problem with a spellcaster using whatever spells and/or abilities they have; however, I have to question the duration at which the spell lasts.

Timestop is according to 3e rules variable - 1d4+1 rounds.

Edit: I originally wrote 15 seconds, but that was incorrect. I was looking at the wrong code

PS: Given Valethrion's two recent deaths at the hands of epic mages, I'd suggest trying some other tactics.

Actually, I've had the same luck with the Witch of Forgorn. It seemed an awful lot longer than 5 rounds, but hey.. I guess when you're being wailed on by cone of cold and IGMS, time seems to slow down. :p

I think there's a lesson in this: stay away from witches and liches, people! ;)

Psh, I would have gotten bored of this game a long time ago if there weren't those witches and liches. They keep it challenging and interesting. ADHD is a cruel mistress.

I think there is much meaning encoded in this. Vis a Vis the rate of times passage relative to the amount of fun one is having. And it is also a mystery for the ages. One would seem to have to be a lich to have the time needed to solve this conundrum. For there is, oddly, a seemingly paradoxical relation between these factors depending upon which point of view one takes, whether you look at it from the lich-witch point of view or the point of view of their victims.

One would think that team lich-witch was having a wonderful time spraying the adventures with the magical slings and arrows of misfortune. And yet... time drags on as they cast all these spells for a number of rounds. Meanwhile for their victims, which are clearly having a less than optimal experience, those rounds just fly right on by.

Oh it is a mystery. We all know that time does indeed fly by when we are having fun. But there are other immutable laws, such as ... that moment time stands still when you see that certain someone crossing the room. Perhaps in our case that is the law that we should apply.

And if indeed this is the case, is the witch's time-stop tactic her means to savor her moment with you?

I wonder what thoughts might be passing through the despotic minds of team lich-witch as they savor the taste of your agony...

RUSH - Time Stand Still
Time stand still --
Im not looking back
But I want to look around me now
See more of the people
And the places that surround me now

Freeze this moment
A little bit longer
Make each sensation
A little bit stronger
Experience slips away...

Couldn't they just cast the Time Stop toward the end of the duration of the spell?

I feel the same.

I mean, taking a bored trip through Carfax at level 8 just doesn't compare with the thrill of going toe-to-toe with Karkus and the Witch at level 18 (or 19, in my case).

Witches, Liches, Warlocks...They all add a certain thrill to PowerGaming that keep me preoccupied in the long, lonely hours that is my timezone.

After all, the things that are considered "appropriate" for my level just aren't interesting and/or threatening enough to keep me entertained. I want my heart to stop pounding when a few select, dreaded words enter the right text-box on my screen. I want to feel my heart race when some nasty boogeyman or other strikes a Critical and I'm already drained of whatever temporary hitpoints my buffs have afforded me.

...I also agree. ADHD is cruel.

Remember, if they're hasted, they can cast twice per round.

Hmm, I'm glad that I don't have ADHD and that I'm also very easily spooked (I'm still afraid of medusas and zezirs), because after what happened today, I'll double, nay, quadruble (is that even a word?) my efforts to stay away from witches/liches. I think I'll try again when I'm about lvl 25. Maybe. I'm a wimp, I know ;).
