It is with great sadness that the Council of Ferein announce the betrayal of Camthalion Tasratir, Archmage of Ferein and Tel'Elena.
The above named is wanted for the indiscriminate murder of two Elves of the Realm and attacking several others without warning.
Since he was last seen headed towards the lands of the Hunter, it is believed that he has fallen and now seeks to join them.
Camthalion Tasratir is hereby stripped of all rank and accompanying privileges, banished and declared Enemy of Ferein.
All are warned that if spotted he is to be approached with the utmost caution, any Elf of Ferein should above all be extremely wary regarding of his motives and report any sighting at once.

I cannot belive what I just read. Camthalion Tasratir, was a famous Archmage in Ferein, I wonder what whatpened. *sighs* This man must be hunted down and brought to justice. And I'll do all my effords to do so. *nods placing his helmet in his head* |

Valethrion walks into the Falling Stars Inn, staff thudding the ground with every step of his right foot.
He passes by a table where two Elves chat animatedly about Camthalion.
"I heard he killed a dozen of ours."
"I heard he killed half that; but wounded a lot more."
"I wonder if this is some plan formed by our esteemed council..."
Valethrion glances around the common room, spots a copy of the decree, and snatches it up. He scans the page briefly; his eyebrows furrow at the former Council member's title, but clears quickly.
He glances around the common room again, then walks up to his room and places the notice on his personal chest. |

| Caleb walks by one of the notes in Ferein. Ponderingly takes a quick hasty copy of the translation and hurries off to the tower. Quietly thinking this might be useful news for him and his collegues. Altho he tryed to get to the tower of wizardly in Ferein, his attempts were in vain, even though he tryed to show them the fact that he was a magus himself. After the failures to enter the tower Caleb heads off, being fairly certain this is important. something more than meets the eye, that shouldnt just be shrugged off and ignored. |

Word reaches Salt that Camthalion has gone renegade and left Ferein as an outlaw. Immediately he is struck by an uncontrollable sneezing fit that leaves him exhausted and barely able to speak:
“Camthalion? He… he did what?! And he is… he is… At large?!!”
His hand steadied by several doses of strong spirits, he hastily scratches out the following message and leaves it at the Broken Mask.
Lucius~
I have received news that the Archmagus of Tel’Elena Tower,
Camthalion Tasratir, has been declared an enemy of Ferein and
is currently a danger. His whereabouts are unknown.
I do not know that you have ever met the man, but
no enemy of his is safe. He is one of just a few supremely
potent mages of the land, perhaps without equal.
As well, I have reason to guard and act for my own safety.
I do not believe that he fears the power of any other Tower of
Magery in Vives, and so I go to the one place that I believe
might be safe from Camthalion and his magic. Upon deliver of this
message I go forthwith to try and gain entry into Midor.
I believe Midor will be the last place in Vives that might welcome
the Archmage, and consider that the hostility towards elves and
the intense security-consciousness of the city will keep me safe
from him. I only hope that I can still move about the place in
safety. Perhaps old Kale Adams will take me in. If you have
occasion to need for me, look for me there.

((Lucius would have no occasion to see the notices in and around Ferein, so this post reflects a certain degree of ignorance of what transpired.))
Lucius reads the message from Salt, re-reads the message, and then puzzles through it looking for any hidden cyphers.
'No enemy of his is safe', 'my own safety', 'Midor', and 'Haste' are all underlined, which simply seem to emphasize the point Salt is making. If there is a hidden message within the message, Lucius decides, he will not be the one to puzzle it out.
Lucius thinks upon the sudden appearance of cursed fey and golems in the Midor forest. There is a tale he has never been told about how the cursed fey came to reside in Paws Woods. Talion had told Lucius that a mad mage corrupted the fey and turned them to evil, but that he couldn't remember the name of the mage, nor did he have a copy of the book that told the story, a book that he cheerily said could probably be found in the Midor library.
At the time, Lucius felt he didn't need to know the tale -that- badly.
However, perhaps the elven mage's betrayal and the appearance of the cursed fey and golems were linked. Learning the tale, from someone, might help him to understand. Lucius supposed he could talk to Sam or Jessup.
Midor. Did Salt know that the Midor mage merchant recently closed his doors? Alyssa seemed to think he'd been killed. You are either with or against Midor now, Lucius thinks to himself. How can a sane man take refuge there?
Elves.
Yet another problem created by elves. They will first attempt to deal with their little 'archmage problem' themselves, Lucius thinks sourly, possibly bringing the world to the brink of despair. If that doesn't work, one can expect them to bring in a cadre of trusted confidants, and if that doesn't work, there will soon enough be messages posted at the Buckshire Trading Post offering a chance for their 'inferiors' to help out.
How things had changed. The man had once been enraptured with one elf and had an ill-fated relationship with another; he had been a member of a contingent of adventurers that undid the corruption of a tear of Elbereth and awoke the sleepers Silmarwen and Itarille. With the exception of a few elven friends, Lucius now often simply avoided elves. Unlike Dana, Lucius didn't think they were all worthy of death and scorn, but he felt perpetually judged by them, and that their attitude towards him was largely one of disdain or superiority. Just yesterday the elf Valethrion had begun to refer to Lucius as one of the "lesser races" before switching to the elven tongue to finish his thought.
Lucius didn't recall ever having met this Camthalion. The Ferein elves had always treated Salt with a great deal of respect and kindness, Lucius thinks, that thought stoking the flames of Lucius' own feelings of exclusion and bitterness towards them. He was probably granted acess to Tel'Elena at some point, Lucius deduces, and therefore likely met this fellow. Salt has always been a bit jumpy, but to flee to Midor, of all places, is rather indicative of the kind of fear that clouds one's judgement.
Lucius looks around his room in the Broken Mask. It is cleaner, larger, and more modern than the one he had at the Four Winds, and provides him with space of his own, a nice thing to have when Dana has eaten some particularly fetid meat. Could he do without it for a time? Certainly.
Lucius pens a brief reply:
Dear friend:
I trust that you have received a warm welcome to your new residence,
though I regret that I didn't see you before your move.
I much enjoyed your last tale, of how the young girl with the basket of
goodies for her grandmother escaped from a vicious wolf by jumping into
an ocean infested with sharks and other monsters of the deep.
Though we had no time to discuss the tale, I was perplexed at why she
didn't try to stay close to friends rather than hide far from them. I am
sure that Anad and Suicul would have lent her a bed and whatever
support she needed far from the wolf had she asked.
In any event, we have not spoken in some time, and I miss that.

Lucius finishes the letter and looks across the table to Jane, who had of late taken to drinking a bit too much wine. She smiles a broad and somewhat goofy smile before meandering across the table and reading Lucius' letter.
"Wizard is soooo transparent," she says sleepily. "Him think nobody but Salt understand this?"
Lucius shrugs his shoulders a bit sheepishly and returns Jane's gaze. "I guess I just have to make sure it gets to Salt," he says quietly, looking to the pixie hopefully.
Jane nods. "Jane thinks can get it to Salt. Might take a few days."
"Aye?" Lucius asks, raising his eyebrows. "How? You don't plan to go into the White City?"
Tiny, almond shaped eyes roll in their sockets. "Jane not stupid. Jane look for raven."
Lucius nods his acceptance with a dry swallow. Elves and ravens, he thinks ruefully. Two words I hate to hear in the same sentence. This can't be a good omen. This can't be a good omen at all.

In the Alchemists hall of Ferien a grey skinned half-elf mixes and swirls colorful liquids and watches as they change color before his eyes. Simple herbs are transformed into powerful magical healing remedies emitting sweet pungent odors and a slight glow in the mixing process with the energy that is produced in doing so.
As he makes for the door, Kalannar stops and reads the post on the history of the creation of Vives that he had noticed from afar posted all about the the elven lands. Upon finishing, he nods a couple of times and murmurs something about it seeming to make sense.
Finally the relationship between Aros and Elbereth seemed to take more clear definition, just as his alchemy had clarified the healing properties present in the herbs that grew wild, concealing their true innert nature. Clarity in purification, burning away the confusion of the lesser elements: when the true nature of things becomes visible, it seems as if it had been so always. Why so many elves were up in arms at the clarification, he didn't understand. He didn't complain when Comfrey and Angelica were mixed with Ginger and Garlic and made a Potent healing remedy... why did they seem so disturbed that Aros would have stemmed from Elbereth and that the conception of Vives occured in her dream as her creative abilities first took fruition and she discovered her purpose? If Elbereth, the mother was made to create, why would one seem bothered that she first made Aros and then the others? Perhaps it was the politics of the leaders that bothered the elves?
As he awaited permission to stay in Ferien, he would try to learn a bit more about his elven kin and why this was of such importance. |
