Part I. Tumata Trek
Those who pass through Icy Vale will hear that Moirin Brunden, resident shopkeeper, has been seeking to do trade with an obscure tribe of master craftsmen living in the heart of the winter lands. The route is dangerous and fraught with hazardous weather as well as beasts. And so he seeks hardy adventurers to deliver some stock to him, promising gold and items in return.
But rumour also has it that ice snakes—along with various other dangerous reptiles that dwell in those harsh cold lands—have been plentiful as of late, venturing outside their normal territories...

((OOC))
When: Sun 7 May, 14:00 | Sydney TZ
(Sydney is about a day behind most people - make sure you enter the right time and day in, and note the correct time and day when converted)
Level: Any, although the critters are tough and it might help to be in your teens. Having said that, low levels that can think outside the box and come up with clever tactics will find themselves just as capable as teen levels. Anyone too high level who's just there to smash stuff will probably get bored and make it boring for everyone else. I advise planning stuff before turning up. There's no guarantee of success.
Required Knowledge: None! But it may help to know a few rumours. If you decide to look into the rumours, PM me with your invetigations.
Note: This is an ongoing storyline, but the plot requires some investigation and puzzling over. The reasons behind things won't be made clear unless you look into them. And whether you choose to share that information or leave the rest of the world in the dark and work the situation to your advantage... well, that's up to you. |

IGNORE:
That's about 8:00 AM Eastern Standard Time in the U.S., by my reckoning.
FYI! Not a bad thing, early mornings.
EDIT: You're right, I'm wrong. I misused that website. Midnight tonight it is! |
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

Part II. The Prowling Shadows
They were there again tonight.
She had seen them moving about between the trees at sunset, and they were still there after she'd ferried the last group over to the Aegea. She'd seen them scooting around furtively along the north-western shoreline for a week now, prowling around by night only to vanish at daybreak.
The Zezirs.
A chill ran through Natana's spine merely at the thought of them. She'd once heard a story from a barbarian named Gasher about a near-death encounter he'd had with the ravenous things. To see them here, edging ever closer to her post...
She would have felt a lot safer if Faloman was around. Ever since the Halfling had taken on the mantle of self-appointed local healer, he'd been doing a good job of keeping the fatality rate down in these parts. With Bloodwood hedged out by the thinnest of defences, it was good to know that there was someone on hand to patch you up if the horrors of the wood ever enroached upon the territories of idyll Ladriel and Brandibuck.
But Faloman was gone. Kidnapped, or so she'd heard from The Alliance, by the mad mage Frobozz. And whilst the healers The Alliance had put in his place were adequate, they were nowhere near a match for his skill.
Natana couldn't focus enough that night to go into her reverie. She watched the shadows slink nearer to the western shoreline—closer today than they had been the day before—and wondered fearfully when the day would come when they'd arrive at her doorstep.
Natana will speak of the Zezir to anyone who will listen, fearfully revealing that she believes that they will sweep through the shores of Ladriel any day now on a killing spree. Residents of the northern shoreline live in fear and do not go out by night; residents of the western shoreline are more lax, though still wary.
There have only been two incidences of Zezir attacks in the past week on the shoreline, and no casualties, thanks to the healers that the Illumine Alliance has stationed at Faloman's Retreat.
The Illumine Alliance has put a notice out in all major towns and cities (except Midor) asking for help in driving back the ravenous Zezir.

In the days following the Blood Moon Feast... everything suddenly goes quiet again. No explanation... none needed? The reptiles slink back to their homes, slowly the reports of activity dwindle away.
Something has happened.
But what?
((Gimme a few more weeks. Lots of homework to finish up, then semester's over. In the meantime, feel free to tack on any Forum RP to Snake in the Grass.)) |
