Vives
The Warning
For you must know this: The World has grown old, And does not remain in its former vigour: It bears witness to its own decline. The Rainfall and the Sun's Warmth are both diminishing; The Metals are nearly exhausted, The Husbandman is failing in the fields, The Sailor on the Seas, The Soldier in the Camp, Honesty in the Market, Justice in the Courts, Concord in Friendships, Skills in the Arts, Discipline in the Morals...
This is the Sentence passed upon the World, That everything that has a Beginning should perish, That things which have reached maturity should grow old, The Strong Weak, The Great Small, And that after weakness and shrinkage Should come dissolution.
Nascentes Morimur: From the moment we're born...
...We Die.
The Dreaming
It begins with the dream and ends with the dream. Door-keeper, key-holder, soul-searcher. You may know me as these things. Know then, traveller, that first and foremost—I am a judge.
Some of you have shown potential. To you, I have appeared. I have shown you the crossroads of fate and let you choose your path and open the doors to your life as you would.
And I have watched.
Some of you realised your potential.
Some of you, I have found wanting.
Just as you began your journey inside by stepping outside, now you must end it by returning to the inside from the outside. And I will weigh your actions, and I will weigh your soul, and I will show you all the doors and all their possible paths—the ones you took and the ones you did not. The way you changed the world. Or failed to change the world. The wisdom you have found, or failed to find.
I am Zarathustra, Judge of The Dreaming.
I guard the one place in the world that will be safe from The Death.
The Death
No one is sure how it comes, only that it does.
The violent turmoil. The darkness. The death.
The world dies but the dream lives on, and in the dreaming, the dreamers are judged.
Some are sentenced to die.
Some are sentenced to live.
Then from out of a bubble of something floating in the chaos of nothing, life emerges.
The Awakening
A world of primeval chaos. New gods stir in the cosmic darkness. They shape a new world from the discarded remains of the old world.
But the new world cannot hold, for the gods war amongst themselves, and nothing can hold it together for them.
Then the doors are opened and the dreamers let out.
And lo, the gods beheld that the dreamers had a grounding they lacked, and they saw in these dreamers the realisation of their vision of the world. And to them they appeared, and together god and mortal built up cities, temples, towns. Here and there, one could find remnants of the old world mingling with the new, for there are some things the dreamers could not let go, and they would have these things survive into the new world. Precious memories. Precious beliefs.
And I watch, as I have always watched. They know me by a new name and a new form, but I am as I have ever been. Guardian of fate. Keeper of time.
The old world knew me as Zarathustra.
The new world knows me by many names.
I am the balanced world. I am the spirit supreme and the elements four.
I am the mathematical constant. I am the unchangeable centre around which variables revolve.
I am the divinity within. The nobility present in all things that inspires them to miracles.
I am the divinity without. The ultimate light from which all things come, the endless dark that surrounds the light and allows it to shine. The source of miracle and catastrophe, blessing and curse.
I am the dream. Within me you walk, without me you die. It is not a death of the body but a death of the soul. For even the dead may walk—dreamless, lightless—but it is an empty existence.
I am the tree that holds the world together, the sky that watches and whispers secrets of time. I am mother and beast, swarm and snake, I am every spirit in every living thing, every spirit in every dead thing.
I am time and three-headed fate, and though I rule none, yet all are ruled by me.
Only my faces have changed. I have not changed.
I am Vives. |

From the team that brought you the poetic and breathing world of Vives comes Vives. Countless ages have passed since The Death visited the world: a disaster so traumatic and chaotic that none know the true details of it, for it is rumoured that even reality itself was left broken and scarred by it.
Generations later, survivors of The Death have founded a new world in a new land: a land where new dangers and secrets are waiting to be found... |

Hmmmmmm.....
If we must figure it out in game, it seems to me that we'll be able to keep playing for awhile.
I was afraid that Vives 2 was to NWN 2 as Vives is to NWN. |

I wouldn't put any stock in all that bunk.
Ficcy is just overly poetic.

HAhahheheh..yeah, but it was worth it.
Actually, it's funny that you mention it, but it is like a character wipe. Everyone will start out new. |

Re: Vives 2 Posted: 21 Apr 2006 02:45 AM |
well...
at this point all we are working on is ideas.
the biggest problem is that nwn2 is not out yet. not even a little bit out yet. Best we can do is read the tech forums and see what it is going to mean, and even that doesnt mean much until it actually gets into the hands of the community and the community figures out what can be done with the software.
In short, you'll know when we know. |

Sure. Just with the time period between the two campaigns, they'll be corpsified and gross, at the very least.

Re: Vives 2 Posted: 21 Apr 2006 06:51 AM |
Great to have this officially confirmed by the powers that be!
The biggest attraction of Vives for me has always been the atmospheric and lovingly crafted world, it's kept me coming back for more for two and a half years. I can't wait to see what the builders come up with using the new engine.
It's a shame in a way that some of Vives background and character will be lost as this new world is forged. Although from Fictrix's poetic verses (fantastic by the way) I see the 'best' parts will likely be kept and new ideas and avenues explored.
Character wipes will always be contraversial I suppose as so much time, effort and even love go into peoples creations. I know I'll be sad to see the back of Eerel...at least till his reincarnation in Vives 2!
I look forward to more details... |

Except Elves, who are already corpsified and gross.
Seriously though, unless you want to be a zombie or something, there will be no character carry overs.
And no liches either.
Period. |

What'll be interesting is recognizing the differences and seeing the similarities. |

Countless ages have passed since The Death visited the world
What Uncle Paul said.
No crossovers whatsoever.
And so much history will have been lost that very few records will remain of "the old world". What few scraps carry over will be the prerogative of the DMs and writers. |

Re: Vives 2 Posted: 21 Apr 2006 08:35 AM |
Ever since talk of Vives 2 began, I always assumed it would mean a full character wipe. It just seems too daunting a task to convert all current PC's over to the new world, so putting Vives 2 in a new era seems the smartest thing to do.
If this was going to happen any time this year, I'd probably be pretty bummed, but unless I'm completely looking at this wrong, we're looking pretty far into the future. The game has to come out, the new toolset understood, the new world created, testing done, etc, etc.
Plenty of time for Willom to get into gobs more trouble and, just maybe, get himself out of it and retire to a quiet spot in Vives just in time for the terrible cataclysm. |
Willom Wilde--Actor, Playwrite, Head of Wilde's Vials, and fearful of all things cheesy
Califus Sarten--Mercenary for Hire
Bennigan Songsinger--Brooding bard. |

*Grins* Plenty of time.
Your DMs have invested far too much effort into current storylines to end them so quickly.
Cataclysm? Who said there'd be a cataclysm? As Uncle Paul said, that's me being overly... poetic. Ah, but you'll just have to wait and see what happens. *Nods sagely* |
