Goblin on an open plain Posted: 13 Feb 2006 05:34 PM |
Based on the fact that I spent the last half an hour trying to save my system from becoming a paperweight after complications with yet another quest based lag crash, here is an idea for all future quests:
One goblin on one hit point on a minimum sized open plain and with a maximum of two PCs (both 1st level fighters).
************************
There, rant done :)
Seriously though - some of the recent quests seem almost deliberately based around the worst possible places for lag (the rainforest/sewers quest and Ferein/Gates quest). Could we have a quest or two in a few lag free spots. Please please please please please.
I love Vives but I cannot afford to replace my system because of a crash complication. |

I'll second that... I had a major crash tonight before we even got into the sewers, and it took a good while before my computer regained its balance :P. I think I'll have to reconsider whether it's really worth it to grind through the events by sheer willpower, as I've done so far. A new computer would probably be a big help but so would the goblin quest Corbin suggested ;). |

Sorry folks. Not seen it this bad. We did everything we could to stop this as DMs. Two groups, nobody in a party, two separate areas for the majority... :0(
All I can say is sorry, and hope people managed to enjoy the first section before all the crashes.

It's been a lot of fun so far. :)
And no new computer would help you with the crashes. It's the server side, not yours. |

The version of the mod got changed before the first server crash. Have now changed back to a prior, hopefully more stable version of the mod.
Ficcy and I do intend to run the final encounter. The sewers are now deemed entirely cleansed, apart from the lowest level, sludge lake.
Hope to see you there, soon.

I know you may not even be watching this post anymore, but I WANT TO VENT!!! In Hardknot mines, No party, just a couple of pets, MY system siezed and I came back to find Kal being pummeled to death, with no more back-up and no time to respond. All I could do was helplessly watch as he was brutally slain. There MUST be a better way to control lag and lock-ups. I know it's not just my com because when nobody else is on my system doesn't do this. Can I at least get a "sympathy-raise"? Jeez!

Unfortunately, death caused by network lag and your own lockups are completely out of our control. No can we raise everyone for every lag related death that ever happens (if we did, then every death would be lag related...)
My only advice is to travel with a friend or three who can cover for you in the event of something like that happening.
It sucks, but it happens to everyone.
