Okay, so let's be honest. A voyage from the Buckshire Coast to Ferein would take more than 20 minutes. While this might not be a popular idea, I think that some real time should pass (within reason).
That being said, assuming said journey would take at least a few game hours, perhaps the Aegea (and other ships) could have one or more NPCs under the main deck with various card games or other ways to pass the time? Something like that ... |

| It's prefectly possible, even without haste or expeditious retreat, to get to Ferein on foot from Buckshire in say 10 -15 minutes certainly under the 20 mentioned (note please I do not say it would be perfectly safe, just possible). In all seriousness the transport system has just been revamped, and any changes along the lines you suggest are likely to be a fairly low priority for the builder team. |

We do try to balance "fantasy" vs "reality" and try to keep into consideration what is "fun".
Personally speaking, I don't think I would enjoy staring at an unchanging screen for 20 minutes waiting for the boat to dock and thus I wouldn't consider making such a change, nor support it.

I was on a server where carriage rides DID take some RT, and the only good thing about the time (except the opportunity to run and grab a snack) was the opportunity for RP it provided.
I agree that you need to balance the reality vs the fun, and there's just not that much that's fun about being on a ship for a long time... a lot of folks have a limited amount they can play as it is, and who wants to spend the bulk of that time staring at seagulls?
That said, I DO think it would be cool to have some sort of encounter possibility in transit - the sea-equivalent to the Kobai bandit encounter on the Midor horse route. Maybe a giant octopus attacks the ship, or pirates board... could be cool.

yeah, that could be cool.. but perhaps only on say, the boat trip to the pirate isle... because there are some people who take the boat to avoid encounters altogether. |

they could hide in the cabin like that governor guy did in Pirates of the Carribean...
I would personally love to see a pirate encounter, as long as they didn't kill me instantly on a zone before I was loading, or a respawn before they finished appearing... that'd just be kinda lame.
*thinks about all the times in the last 24 hours he's been killed by CR 1 creatures*
You know, scratch that, Ecounters would be fine for just the little data dialogue description, I don't think I need need to take part in one.... At least not until I upgrade my computer. |

Well, what if when a pirate boarding occurs the game automatically transports you below deck to your cabin.. You can then either wait out the attack like a coward say for a few minutes (maybe have one pirate come down or somesuch) or you can go above deck to aid in the defense of the ship. If you succesfully repel the pirates then Captain Valien refunds your gold for the trip as a reward for your daring intrepid nature.
Something like that would be sort of cool. That way there is a low risk (avoiding the encounter) and a moderate risk with a light reward. Just an idea. |

Transport system being enhanced, when I have time.
The eastern route will be very dangerous. If you want a dangerous boat trip, go east. If you don't, keep using the western shipping lanes.
Many changes on the way. Well, they've been on the way for months now, but it's taking a frickin' long time to get it all finished *mutters*. |
