I guess that depends entirely on what your defination of "meat" is. Would you care to define the term? |

Paul asked the right question .
Some vegetarians class it as meat and some don't, so it really depends on your perspective.
In biological terms, yes it is meat because it is flesh and muscle & tissue etc. |

The only reason that fish isn't unanimously accepted as meat is because of the Catholic Church.
At some point, fisherman weren't making any money in favour of pork and beef sales on the market, and brought their concerns to the Pope. He, also being a fisherman, made a decision in their favour and declared that fish was acceptable to eat on Fridays.
Isn't it nice how Catholicism makes religious decisions for economic reasons? |

I'm sure fish is meat because... it definitely ain't a vegetable! ;) I always get perplexed by people who say they're vegetarians and yet eat fish or even chicken.
A good rule of thumb: if it has had eyes, it's meat. |

The people who have gone the way of the vegetarian for health reasons (which I think is stupid, by the way) may almost be forced to eat some kind of meat to get the necessary protein they haven't figured out how to get by eating plants.
Pro Tip - The human body gets way, way more nutrients out of meat. Your body CAN break down vegetables according to the omniverous thing, but you get very, very little out of it (in comparison to actual vegetarian animals, say, mice). In order to properly perpetuate a true vegetarian lifestyle AND be healthy, you have to know what you're doing. Read books, they have knowledge.
We've come up with every diet imaginable from avoiding red meat, to ONLY eating red meat, to avoiding carbs, to ONLY eating carbs, to highly structured eating habits (down to the ounce and minute). The truth is that everyone's body chemistry is different and while the Atkins diet may work for you, it may not work for someone else. Personally, I'm somewhat convinced that the only way I'm going to lose weight is by reactivating my metabolism, which got ruined when I got surgery.
Otherwise, some people are vegetarian for spiritual reasons, which I don't agree with, but I'm not about to force my religious beliefs on someone else. If you do happen to be Hindu, or whatever, please be intelligent and read books so you don't look gaunt, yellow, and horrifying. For these people, as I've mentioned, some religions come with loopholes where it's alright to eat meat on certain days, or certain kinds of meat, or whatever.
Finally, some people choose to be vegetarian for moral reasons, which is in my opinion obscenely stupid. The kind of people who stand in front of McDonald's with signs and loud speakers throwing pig blood on customers. Naturally these sorts of people are prone to intense moral imbalances, so they might say that while helplessly killing a cow is terrible, a can of tuna fish isn't so bad. Let's just hope they never get the impression that plants feel and express emotions and deep feelings of love.
Whatever the case, I just finished a roast beef sandwich and it was really good. |

Well... I guess that makes me stupid, then :(.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I don't wish to argue about this, but like you said yourself, everyone's body chemistry is different. I, for instance, have been much healthier after I stopped eating meat, and I'm not talking about healthy in the sense of thin vs overweight. I used to suffer from oligoarthritis as a kid, and the medicines they gave me didn't really agree with me. The doctor said it might be a good idea to try vegetarian diet, and so I did. Guess what? It worked.
I don't think I look "gaunt, yellow, and horrifying" either, but maybe I'm in denial?
One more thing: I don't give a crap whether people eat vegetables, roast beef sandwiches or small pebbles. Actually, I even cook meat dishes for my boyfriend, and I see no problem with it. He's a total carnivore, and I'm not aiming to change him. Everyone can decide for themselves, and they should not be condemned for it. |

Yeah, I can't stand the smell/taste of poultry or pork, of anykind. Especially Raw Chicken and Bacon, that stuff will drive me out of the house, but then again, so does rubbing styrofoam.
On the other hand, I immensely enjoy beef, and I'm actually a bit of a sushi "Chef" and am going to spend a good $70 on various forms of Raw fish to cut up and make into sushi for my birthday dinner Friday night, which is actually what I did last year as well. |

Its ok to eat fish coz they dont have any feelings... Bollox I have a gold fish called Mary (mungo and midge are sadly departed) who displays emotions ie gets excited when i clean the tank out .Much fin wiggling And intelligence on a par with some Americans. ie she knows when feeding time is and apears to comprehend that there is a world beyond the confines of her tank. So yes fish is meat and if you dont eat meat coz animals are nice and cuddly then dont eat fish either. I personally am vegitarian for half the week because i know it does me good...However i will eat anything and enjoy a rare fillet as much as the next carnivore. Minced goat in Morroco i highly recomend Armadillo in Guatamala was a treat The highly spiced then deep fried locusts we ate in mexico were deliscious after enough copious mescal However after diving with reef sharks and apreciating there sub aqua majesty i have since forgone eating what is perhaps one of the tastiest items in gods great restaraunt

| Ironic (or maybe appropriate) that in a thread about conception of fish that there appears to be such a volume of misconception (or maybe ignorance) about vegetarianism both in terms of reasoning and dietry requirements. |
