Stronge Arms and Stronge Backs are Needed...
Posted: 11 Dec 2005 02:13 PM
*Posted around the Port Royal waterfront, and in Johe’s Guyver Shop and the Broken Mask Tavern*

WANTED

Stronge Arms and Stronge Backs are needed to accomp’ny an Expedition to a Mine forgotten and Most Hazzardous.

The Sage and Seer known as
Salt Sower desires to acquire specimens of slimes, molds, rusts, oozes, ochres and jellies believed to be found in this location alone. These creatures are needed for experimental purposes and their collection will be a priority.

If the mine still be fruitful then this will be a rare opportunity for Miners, Armorers and Metalsmiths to acquire exotic and rare materials. Portters with Stronge Backs may be needed to haul ores and minerals to the surface.

Destination will be revealed to interested persons. Pay in share of goods and treasure recovered, excluding ores and minerals removed as personal spoils.

Mercenary types Considered--Gnomes need not Inquire
***

[OOC-Hoping to do this some night this week--post an encounter with Salt in this thread if you are interested (he's at the Broken Mask) or bump into him IG to talk this over. We can plan this thing plenty in this thread too, for those that like that sort of thing.

***Read: gnomes feel free to hassle me at every turn, and by all means invite yourselves along.]

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about dying."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

"Foolish!" Bohnito yells out as he reads the note. "He calls himself a Sage and does not know the absolute genius of a Gnome!? Foolish!"

"I shall show him the truth that the gnomish mind is stronger then the sword!"

"Gnomes need not In..."

Gnimini reads aloud to himself as he sees the post at Johe's Guyver Shop before pausing a moment then chuckling to himself.

"That Salt...seein's how we already spoke about me lookin' fer some Jellies for 'em...guess he don' mean me. Or, maybe..."

He continues musing aloud while he peruses Johe's assortment of goodies despite ZigZig's strange looks.

"...heh...i wunder 'ow many other folks thinka me as a dwarf?"

Gnimini finally approaches ZigZig with some items he has been meaning to sell and strikes up a conversation.

"Zig...you think i c'd pass for a dwarf?"

"What, more like a halfling to you...?"

The tiny figure, dwarfed by her latest 'friend', peered up at the notice, her brow so creased with concentration that she looked at least thirty years older.

Some half an hour later she finally reached the end of the notice and turned to the hulking beast behind her oblivious to the fact that the patrolled road was now empty - apart from the nervous facea peering from behind shutters.

"Jus' wait 'ere Trunky while I nip inside an' sees if Doc's gots sum parchment I can borrers."

Another hour later she reappeared and affixed a crumpled, food stained scrap beneath the original notice.

"Dere mister Salty

I ain't shore cos yer rites funny but I fink this is the fing we wos speakin' bout when yer met me an' 'Airy (sorry bout the scratchis).

Anyways yer ain't gots nuffink ter wurry bouts cos me an' me mates will giv yer a 'and no wurries. Jus' lets me know wot time yer goin'. I alreddy saved me pennies fer the bote.

Tomi reads over the note posted in the guyver store, nodding to himself absently. Thinking a short moment he shrugs and looks to Zig "Mebbe 'ey gots sum minerals fer m' jewelin'. Soun's like fun anyhows. Gotta quill handy?". Zig, mouth filled with pie and unable to speak nods torwards an inkwell on the counter. "Thank ya lad".

Tomi looks to the note briefly and then quickly scribbles acrosss the bottom ...

"Tomi Swiftfoot 'ere. Count m' in lad. Leave a message wit' Margaret in tha black mask tavern where I stays if'n ya needs a scoutin' fella"

After a quick proofread of his short reply, he nods once and dips the quill back in the inkwell.

After a long while of consideration, Balthor grinned. He waved his hand across the parchment, and suddently at the bottom appeared Balthor's peculiar signature.

"This oughtta be good."

Zigzig read the notice at Johe’s to Moon, and after pondering for a moment she nods her head. The lure of mining ore was enough to make her jump right up and down a dragons mouth, she dearly wished to try her hand at crafting with other ore apart from Copper.

"Zigzag my man, have you got a quill and ink?" she asked with a smile.

Zigzig nodded and held out the inked quill, Moon merely shook her head and pointed at the notice.

"Be so kind as to put my name down then lad, you know I can't read, you had to read the notice to me, so what makes you think I can write?"

Zigzig shrugged and then scratched out Moons name in large bold letters.

"Ought to learn, never know when you might need to make out your will" was all Zigzig said, then went back behind the shop counter and started stuffing his face with pie.

Moon thought that Zigzig was probably right, and perhaps she would learn to read and write one day....but first she needed to get ready for an expidition!

Brooding quiet figure passes by note at the Broken Mask, stopping for a only a brief moment to read and add his name to the list of others, with a steady hand "Dorian, Graz'zt, swordsman and a mercenary.". Quickly after continuing on his path back to his room upstiars.

(I will be there if it's at a decent time for me. GMT +2, Finland.)

Nightmare this may be, but it's not a dream.

"Hmm a mining expedition? Sounds like fun"

Conn reaches for the quill, giving Zig a slight nod as he goes about his work.

"Count me in Salt"

Conn signs his name next to the parchment and hefts his pack up over his shoulder and walks for the door.

As Garrak is about to leave Johe's store after having sold some minor items he notices Zigzig casting a glance at a parchment with a growing number of names on it.

" What is this then? Expedition? Right. "

Before he has the opportunity to open his mouth with the obvious question, Zigzig points at the quill with a grin. Garrak gives him a slight nod and a grin as he goes about writing his name on the parchment.

" There we go.."

He gives Zigzig a quick salute as he leaves.

Salt assembles a list of names in his head; some of them he knows while others are practically strangers. He considers the list open-ended and reminds himself to check each location where he has posted the notice over the next several days.

Bohnito Nerfagph Jhenakrh Treventy—uncommon appellation—who is this?
Gnimini—excellent—a gnome, but raised among dwarves.
Perin—grateful to have her.
Tomi Swiftfoot—mighty fine.
Balthor Mountainhand—Sensational!—perhaps he will bring his iron golem
Moon—Good thing.
Dorian Graz’zt—Another good thing—must ask if anybody knows him.
Connavar—Must have.
Garrak—Surely!

Next he outlines some considerations.

Near-perfect balance of abilities…

Adequate rewards to be anticipated? How to ensure spoils make expedition worthwhile for all?

Precious little hard knowledge of this destination—probative trip to the location in advance, in so far is this is possible in safety

Will need to lay in plenty of tonic for strength—need essence of thistle and spotted mushrooms in quantity…

And so on.

He sets out to assemble his own supplies for the trip, cutting through the streets of Port Royale from one merchant house to another, leaving word here and there where it will reach the individuals on the list between his ears.

[OOC: How about tomorrow or the next day (Tuesday, Wednesday) this week around this time? Say 6:00 EST or 11:00 GMT? Could start earlier or later—PM me or post here w/ availability.]

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about dying."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

Something blue and furry creeps under Salt's door one morning. It shuffles along the floor like some miniature monster of horror, drawing closer... closer. Crossing over to the head of the bed, it squashes itself flat, then springs into the air with remarkable agility, executes five mid-air flips in quick succession, and lands squarely atop the sleeping Salt's forehead.

When Salt wakes up that day, he finds a sentient moustache sleeping soundly on his face.

The subculture of my dreams
Is waiting for me to fall asleep.
I know you're scared—you should be.
I know you're scared.

[What would folks say to starting this journey tonight--Tuesday--at 5:00 EST or 10:00 GMT. Folks Salt spoke to IG yesterday seemed pretty flexible. We'll rally at Johe's since that's where most people put their name on the handbill.

Also, I'd like to try a new game: Find the Moustache!

The Mischievous Moustache of Frobozz has taken up residence on Salt’s person, but does not necessarily rest underneath his nose. Anyone who wants to should improv with Salt about this wandering blue handlebar moustache. If he hasn’t mentioned it for a while ala:

*blue moustache stretches forward taking Salt’s nose with it*

*moustache clamps nostrils shut, making it difficult to eat his soup*

*Salt appears at the door with a strange blue monobrow*

*moustache slips down wrist onto pint and makes a shrill sucking sound*

…remind him that the moustache is mischievous. “Hey Salt, what is that growing out of your ___________?!!”

Really!]

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about dying."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Daimon sits, his legs crossed and suspended on the seat in front of him, inspecting a copy of Salt's recruitment form. His hair is a mess, likely from running his hand through it in absent thought, and sticks in every direction like some tangled mess of a small furry mammal. An almost semi-permanent arched eyebrow holds its usual high-hang, while the orbs beneath scan deep into the paper, seemingly deep beyond the paper, lost in thought.

"Well, it is a mining expedition."

"I haven't been on one in about a year..."

"But it might be someplace I haven't been before..."

"...I've been to a lot of places."

"But if it's someplace I've been, they could use my prior experience...."

"I should stay to attend to the affairs in Buckshire, it would do the town poorly if I went on some crazy hike and got slaughtered by some infernal spawn of Nu'men."

"I have to stay."

Daimon begins running a hand through his hair, and the indecision begins anew.

))OOC not sure if I can make the time, I plan to attend, but something may come up. I suppose it depends on the lay of the afternoon, and the time you decide on. I do have an engagement to attend at 12:00 Midnight GMT, however((

))oh, and I won't be home until about Midnight GMT today((
