Mykal's Quote of the Day
Posted: 07 Oct 2005 12:28 PM
A collection of wisdom and insight from the long dead, but still talkative, paladin.

Today's topic: Evil

"People do not care when evil people do evil deeds; that is to be expected. But when good people do evil deeds, well, that is a story."

-Mykal

(Feel free to add your own as you see fit)

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

Do you want things our characters would say, things applying to our characters, or just good qoutes in general? Don't want to derail a good thread with the wrong thing! :D

Grabbed from one of Byron's posts, and keeping to today's theme..

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Who's Mykal?

I've heard that
he's cool in bed
he's gotta be
'cuz he's dead

Sticking with Today's Topic: Madness...
Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.

This week, America observes Columbus Day. The official date is on October 12th, but the Monday of Columbus Day week is considered a bank holiday. In keeping with that thought, here is today's topic

Today's Topic: Holidays

"I need a vacation from myself,
A refuge from my thoughts,
Halting the pain,
That's mine."

-Mykal, random agnsty poem

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

-Mykal

"Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have."

I've been spending sooo much time on Midor stuff recently that I just have to post something Midor-y:

To fight is one of the most beautiful, simple and useful ideas.

Mmmmm.... Michael Leunig goodness! If you haven't heard of him, go forth and look him up.

Oh! Oh oh oh. While we're on the topic of Happiness and Michael Leunig:

The long history of happiness is unrecorded
And shall remain so forever,
Yet it can be known completely.

A few short notes, however, have been made:

Happiness is the child of Love and Truth,
Who struggled just to live and yet found each other;
And in the crib of all their weariness
Their little happiness lay sleeping.

As I stated on Monday, October 12th is Columbus Day in the United States. To commemorate this holiday, which is fast declining in relavance, I give you today's topic.

Today's Topic: Discovery

"The discover without is nothing compared to the discovery within."
-Mykal

"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them."
-Galileo Galilei

"It is possible to believe that all the human mind has ever accomplished is but the dream before the awakening. "
-H. G. Wells

"What is there that confers the noblest delight? What is that which swells a man's breast with pride above that which any other experience can bring to him? Discovery! To know that you are walking where none others have walked . . . "
-Mark Twain

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

Many people in my life recently have been faced with life changing events. Some have been sudden, others have been building for a long time, and have finally boiled over. So I’d like to call attention to those that are facing changes by talking about a curious oxymorn.

Today’s Topic: New Beginnings

“This is your renaissance; your new beginning. Any new beginning that is worthwhile starts with pain.”
-Mykal

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end."
-Anonymous
-Semisonic, Closing Time

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

It's Friday! Time to celebrate. Now I may be getting older, but I do remember one good way to celebrate Fridays.

Today's Topic: Beer

"American beer is like so much water."
-Mykal, though all proper beer drinkers share this sentiment

"Beer is God's way of letting us know he loves us and he wants us to be happy."
-Benjamin Franklin

"And malt does more than Milton can
To justify God's ways to man."
-A. E. Housman

"Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut."
-Ernest Hemingway

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

Do not ask of them questions. You will receive three answers, all of which are true and horrifying to know.
