Players: Area Description Help Posted: 04 Apr 2005 02:09 PM |
Hi All,
I am trying to get caught up in all the area descriptions for the different areas IG. Unfortunately, I am crap with area descriptions so I am going to ask for help from the players in creating the descriptions.
If you see an area that you recognize/have spent a long time visiting/have an idea for what the description should be, could you please post on this thread the area and the description you would like to see?
As I add the area descriptions in, I will update this list until it is all gone. What does this mean for players? When an area gets a description, it also gets exploration XP assigned to it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This list pre-dates certain newer areas. When these are done, Im sure we can update the list.
Although if you want to submit descs for areas that are lacking one, and not on this list, I am sure that would be welcome too.

Well, I'll do one right now while I'm waiting to make a phone call.
Madame Sentine's Quarters: The floors are lavishly carpeted and a pair of doors are in sight. The area seems fit for a queen, and one is probably quarters for a guest. The doors are locked, though from the outside... Odd...
What're your thoughts on that one? |

Oooo, just saw this one, can nail it on the head :D
Ship: On Board Aegea: The skies are clear and sunny. A brisk wind is pushing the ship forward, the saild are plump and round, a furrow being carved out of the warm waters by the brisk ship. Ropes are taught and a gleam is in the Captain's eye.
I'm going to take a guess as to this one, but I've never been here...
Pirates!: A ship closes from over the horizon. They quickly come up and over the sides, with weapons bared! You've been attacked! Defend yourself, for the ship! |

I would recommend a name change as a Pyre is like a pile of leaves (or something else) to be burned…kinda fitting, but not exactly from what I saw of it.
I’m also assuming that if that Dragon ever did spawn there, it doesn’t any longer and the hole has since been patched that it created when it flew out.
Naruth’s Pyre – The Core
As you climb down into large cavernous area, a wave of heat from the magma below envelops your body. Anyone wearing armor will be incredibly uncomfortable in the heat. This must be as far as a human can get underground and still survive.
A small rock face extends out into massive open cavern, which is populated by numerous fire creatures from the magma. A few bookshelves are scattered around, which must be magically protected from the heat.
Despite the heat, something seems missing. Perhaps this was once the home to something else, maybe a fire giant, a red dragon or maybe even the Sister of Flame herself…
Feel free to change or modify, those are my thoughts from the one visit. |

If it is where ana and Jand live see below if not can you add this to where Jand and ana live lol.
A small grotto near the Standing Stones
As you go through the almost cave like entrance that has been cut into the wall of trees you notice there is a tower ahead. On looking the tower looks to be quite old with conections to Laynaum but as you draw closer you can see smoke from a new chimly and a display case is set outside the steps. With 'Mr and Mrs Fennen, Traders' written on the sign that swings in the wind from its rope binds to the tree, it is clear to see that somone lives here. Perhaps they know of the local lands? |

I couldnt see the title for the Kaazim Island itself. Isle of Kaazim I believe.
Anyway here is a description for it.
As you step off the boat you see before you what appears to be an expertly trimmed and perfectly straight hedgerow. In the distance looms a great tower, magnificently carved and pulsing with energy. A brief way alone you see a light.... and just behind it a gateway through the hedge.
They certainly have no desire to make it easy for would be visitors. |

Arunukar Dungeons The ancient dungeons appear to be abandoned... but are they? Strange grunts punctuate the gloomy silence; heavy footfalls and the flap of leathery wings can be heard from behind closed doors.
Buckshire Mayor's House - Upper Level The mayor's living quarters are tidy and spartan, adorned only by a few scattered family portraits and heirlooms.
Carfax Manor - Ground Floor The presence of dust and cobwebs has done nothing to detract from the grandeur of this proud manor. Elaborate patterns creep across the floor, walls and high ceiling—unfaded, untouched by the march of time. Can you see them moving out of the corner of your eye? Or is it a trick of the flickering candlelight?
Fangduin Caverns The lumbering forms of Yetis bearing boulders upon their backs are clearly visible despite the gloom. An unholy chanting echoes from deep within this maze of caverns, the infernal words sending a chill down your spine. Clearly the Yetis are not alone...
Ferein - Inner City The heart of Ferein lies shrouded in darkness. What little light leaks out from the buildings is swallowed up by the murky gloom. Only the sinister red glow of statues of the Mother stand out, like ominous beacons heralding some unforeseen doom...
Ferein - Sacred Grotto The sanctity of the grove has been desecrated by the tainted weather. The druids who guard this place stand shivering in the snow, their eyes haunted and empty, oblivious to the presence of everything but the storm. - Whoops, wrong area! Disregard! I thought this was the sacred grove.
Kaazim Tower - 2nd Floor Desks lie in neat and ordered rows; the books are arranged meticulously on the shelves; and every surface lies unnaturally clear of even the slightest speck of dust: the perfect place for a mage to become engrossed in their studies!
Kaazim Tower - Entrance Despite the warm climate outside, the tower entrance is cold and uninviting. A stern-looking man stands opposite the entrance, watching you warily.
Kobai Desert Plains A plain of sand stretches before you as far as the eye can see, extending to the horizon and beyond. The coast is delineated by a distant clump of trees. Far off in the other direction, beyond the prowling winged forms of manticores, a dark speck stands out against the sand—buildings, perhaps?
Lost City The jungle strangles the once-glorious buildings that still struggle after countless ages to stand tall and proud. Delicate, sweeping patterns are etched in the crumbling stone. Those of Elven descent will feel a sense of sorrow... and a lingering taint of evil.
Lost Jungle Camp Tent The tent lies abandoned by its original inhabitants, its contents having been claimed by the wild jungle long ago. Rubbish lies strewn everywhere, and a festering stink pervades the small shelter. The perpetual hissing of snakes ruins whatever false sense of security you may have had.
Maldovia Woods Does nothing truly live on this wretched island? Even the trees are twisted and alien, not quite dead and yet not alive either. The undergrowth conspires to entangle you in its brambly grasp. Crosses stand gleaming in the shadows, half-hidden by various poisonous plants.
~*~
More on the way. I'll get through that list if it's the last thing I do, raar!

Midor Burial Grounds
Low moans drift through the air towards you. Hunched-over, misshapen figures can be seen shambling dimly amongst the graves, and from all around comes the stench of freshly-turned earth and rotting flesh.
Midor Coastline
The shattered skeletons of ships, dashed by the savage waves upon the jagged rocks, adorn this wet and barren coast. Grotesque humanoids prowl along the shore, searching for victims... shipwrecked or otherwise.
Midor Library - Antechamber
The antechamber is stark and grey, featureless save for a prominent sign.
Mines of M'Gok Tukar
Your entrance is heralded by the screech and flap of oversized bats that buzz around your head, disturbed from their rest.
Myconid Cavern
These dim caverns and twisting passageways are thick with the decaying stench of mould. Pale purple eyes glitter in the darkness, illuminating the bizarre forms of wandering mushrooms.
Nethar'u - Hall of Champions
Standing as a last outpost against the evil that lies below this cursed island, the Hall of Champions has fallen into disrepair through years of neglect. Yet all is not lost, for one man still stands guard in the otherwise empty halls, steadfastly refusing to forsake his duty.
Paws - Menmuir's House
This cramped and squalid house reeks of fish.
Pickstons and Jessup's Penthouses
The lavish penthouses overlook the seafront, presenting an incongruous view of sparkling waters juxtaposed with the grimy streets of lower Port.
Rainforest
Through the thick curtain of falling rain you can make out the shadowy forms of large cats on the prowl, and the rainbow flash of brightly-coloured wings flitting between the trees.
Somewhere in the Kobai Desert
A savage sandstorm rages all around you, the whirling sand slicing at you like a thousand tiny knives. The canyon is filled with the shrill scream of the wind. Through the blinding barrage of sand, you can dimly make out the receding form of your fleeing steed.
Syn's Cavern
Silence: it pervades this dim cavern. It mutes your footsteps and swallows your words as soon as you speak them. It makes the whispers of the creeping shadows seem loud in your ears. The shadows have voices... the voices have faces...
The Scorched Earth - Archaeological Dig
Various structures lie partially unearthed, the sand having been scraped back carefully to reveal buildings, sculptures and other fascinating archaeological finds.
The Unicorn Inn - Upstairs
Despite its location within the rich Eastern sector of the city of Midor - not to mention the exorbitant rental price on the rooms - the upper floor of the Unicorn Inn is surprisingly modest. Small, faded religious paintings of Midoran are stationed along the corridor, and the wallpaper and carpet are conspicuously patterned with unicorns and crosses. |

Nope, not the same place Carlton. However I do believe the area where our tower lies does describe the tower as decrepit and worn down, or something to that effect. However, the tower was renovated and so I think the area description should be modified to reflect such. The area is A small copse near the standing stones. Similar, but not the same.
*edit* well, I guess it doesn't say the tower is decrepit and rundown, in fact it alludes to the fact that there are people living there, though not citing specifically who. |

It's that time again.
Area descriptions, we need some.
If you have been in the world for a while, and are familiar with some of the lore, then your creativity is required.
Been to these areas? Noticed the lack of description? Then write one up and perhaps I will incorporate it :)
Not familiar with the area? Then consider it a spoiler :)

I have one for Shademere - A Strange Abode [shademrabode]:
This abode prickles all your senses for you sense something terribly amiss. The very air itself seems to carry the taste of nothingness and once your eyes adjust to the darkness inside, they see... nothing.
:P Obviously it lacks a bit of decorating and function right now. ;)
And unless I'm mistaken, apart from that one and Quillian's caravan (which is the home of Quillian), everything else is not accessible right now. :) |
