Interactive Placeables - Suggestions? Posted: 07 Aug 2003 01:24 AM |
I hope you all had a chance to meet the useable wells, edible meatstew, flammable woodpile, finger-biting (oops. Almost gave it away )... what else could we make 'usable' to enhance the ambience?
(as it will involve a conversation interface, it'd do well to PM me the specific options / dialogue lines too!)
Oh! And don't forget the specific dialogue options can be selectively shown to specific characters - by race, gender, ability-score - your creativity is the limit! |

This is simply AWESOME work by Aria......... I have just started to play with in the toolset, and uses are seemingly endless....
for example, I just made a Roasting Spit placeable with meat on it, it is interactive using this system and one can with a knife cut off chunks of meat to use as rations to rest! (they still look like rations and are called rations, but that is something I believe Q is looking into, using different foods to est with etc.....)
I also made a Cauldron you can stir and perhaps get a surprise when something floats to the surface etc.....
So........ thanks to Aria we can add these things very quickly and effectively using her system, so PLEASE PLEASE list here any suggestions you might have for placeables so we can get them in game! Using this system we can do virtually anything.
Cheers

Come on folks! Let's hear your ideas!
Here's another one :)
Windows you can look through after wiping away a layer of snow or grime.....
then you can see what's in a building before even stepping inside..... perhaps a homely tavern with glowing warm fire etc....
or maybe yuo catch a glimpse of some odd looking humanoid creature or somesuch :)
Cheers

Small rug that you can fold up... and place back down.
Same, but with cuddly cushions.
Right-there assembled stools...
Vase that you can search (most have nothing at all )
Lottery (some inventor lets you pay 500 gold for a 2% chance of winning a really cool item - or so he says anyway )
Calendar that tells the date...
Corpse that spawns zombies against those greedy adventurers...

How about a section of the floor that can collapse, and thus the PC falls into another area. And then how about a ladder so a PC can climb up from the hole in the floor.
Ohh. Remember the 10' deep trap pits? Those would be cool also. Good old Tomb of Horrors (http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/modules/data/1033519310550.shtml).

These are definitely going in:
Musical instruments such as drums and harp etc...... people can play them and according to Perform skill different qualities of tunes pop out etc.
e.g:
*plays a beautiful melody* high perform *everyone covers their ears at the racket* low perform
Also Artist easels, which you can paint upon when used with a pallette of paints that you can buy..... then according to skill checks yuo are rewarded with different qualities of paintings.
Maybe even a Magical Sword that has been stuck in a rock for eternity, and requires a strength check to pull it out! (might be a bit cheesy but it's a good idea what we can do ( a very simple on too))
Maybe even telescopes one can look through and examine the stars! or in Fen's case peep through neighbours windows! (J/K Fen :P)
COME ON PEOPLE! LET'S HEAR YOUR IDEAS!
Cheers!

Interactive altars...... enabling you to make different sacrifices to your God..... different sacrifices produce different results... temp stat boosts, maybe even a nice item appears with a hard to find animal sacrifice or somesuch.....
as a sidenote we can also make these work only once ever (across resets and crashes too).
Talking Scarecrows or statues that give riddles etc......
Safes with combination locks
Perfume bottles giving a temporary boost to charisma.....
Interactive maps placeables that give you directions to hidden treasure or a secret location/hidden door.
A Woman (or man) tied to a tree whom you can throw daggers at for fun (if you're a half-orc).... just hope you're dex is high enough or you might hit him/her :P
A hanging shield which you can pluck off the wall
AN interactive Item that grants you any number of cool or horrific things at random, such as giving you an item, maybe summoning a demon, statboost, lvl changes etc etc

There's ONE chicken in this world that was originally a man. And he'd give anything for you to go find the proper ingredients to mix an elixer to turn him back. Looking for a ranger/druid specific quest? Work with it. :P
I'd like to see more interactive everything. I wish it were possible to see more of the crafting process, more flexible emotes, and such.
Most of my improvement suggestions are merely cosmetic. I'mma post a great big list of stuff I think should be noticed later. |

hmm.. there was something i saw one fraghaus that was actually nice.. they had a nice bulletin (excuse my spelling) board.. I think that making such a board can be really great, so if someone wanna write down a note and post it, he will just write it down and post it there instead of the forums....
if you aren't familiar with it: there was a nice board, and you could post notes on it, saying who wrote it and when.. I think it should be more like this format:
1. --- 2. --- 3. --- . . . x. post a new post --- will be the headlines of the posts, already on the board, when you click on it, it will tell you the content of that post.
each post will have a headline and a content.. without saying who wrote it.. if the writer wanna write it, he will write it in the post.. I dont know how exactly it worked.. but it was pretty nice and usefull thing..

A trail of fresh blood leading to a dying man (perhaps destined to go into a Trolls cookpot)..... upon following the trail you come across the man and have the option of putting him out of his misery with a quick death from your dagger, or if you are so inclined..... leaving him to suffer in pain!
Muhahaha

Re: Interactive Placeables - Suggestions? Posted: 13 Aug 2003 08:57 AM |
hmm, well.. you can make dogs, that will walk around the cities or something.. and you can kick them and turn them to hostile lil devils.. or you can give them some food, and they might follow you as hencmen.. and errmm.. you can have mirrors.. that ask some questions and give answers according to char carisma.. and maybe asking a riddle or two.. maybe even giving the char an item, or opens a gate to a diffrent place.. and errm.. you can have altars, and have a chance of i duno.. one for each twenty parayers, to store the thing that PC asked for, and then DMs can see that and make his wishes come true.. (in our own diabolical way of course :D ) and maybe a ginny (i got no idea how to spell it) lamp! that will give three wishes.. and there will be diffrent subjects.. and each subject will have 50% it will mess up and 50% it will work.. so if someone wants to be rich.. he can become rich.. or his backpack may catch on fire =P or stuff like that.. it can be really neat.. and maybe magical scales, so each side will put something in it, and he is the only one who can see it, and after the PCs have set the current balance (use your imagination! there wont be any setting for the scales ) and add weight to one side, it will say which side's stuff worth more in gold, and maybe even have a chance that it wont be accurate.. and there can be statues that tell riddles.. and levers that need to be opened in specific location so locks will be opened..
Dens - went to think about more stuff |

Or perhaps the old trusted interactive archery target which depending on a dex check will strike various targets thus making you able to compete in achery events.
Also alot more things like gambling... magic shows... you know stat dependant stuff that will let you pare up against other npcs for a little ole competition... sure beats the heck outta pointless dueling.
Also when the hell is the theatre in midor going to have its dang show?

Hmm... let's see.
The graveyard scripts are actually in (from several months ago). We're able to do -alot- more cool and flexible stuffs with our streamlined system tho~!
Interactive archery target... Yes, there was one called TurelyonMidoran running around, kinda hard to hit tho
We'll slowly add in the bunch... I can see where the NPC competitions and what-not comes in at the Wayward Adventurer just outside Midor (it was planned with these in mind... but didn't quite work out yet. Time~!) |

How about interactive prayer mats you can carry around then place on the floor to pray and such..... nice for the God-botherers methinks! Then you can fold em back up and be on your way!
Cheers
