BLOODY RAMPAGE IN MIDOR!!!! Posted: 19 May 2004 12:11 AM |
Dateline Midor..... Last eve was yet again another sign of the once proud city of Midor falling from grace. An act of absolute barbaric proportions happened last eve. It was witnessed by several residents and visitors of our beloved city. Two men, one believed to be a halfling or gnome and a towering half-orc went on a bloody rampage in this city of ours...
The carnage that was left was nothing short of devastating. While the Midor guard did their best to stop this act.....they were not able to deter the assailants. As many as 8 of Midors finest guards fell....as well as several priests of the Temple. Many passer byers also tried their best to put a halt to the grisly act but to no avail. It is believed that the two attackers not only killed but looted as well....taking several relics from the Midor museum as well as over 55 thousand gold pieces from the Midor treasury. The two then commenced to set ablaze the Midor Temple itself as well as half of the southern portion of the city...Witnesses say that the two were rambling on about Midor being responsible for the troubles in the lands as well as the death of a well known tavern owner/retired adventurer Merum Widt. People of Midor.....what will our government do to bring justice to those that have fallen? Who will lead the charge for those that cannot? When will those responsible pay? Residents murdered.....temples defiled.....prostitution.....gambling.....thievery....where will it all end...or is it too late?
.....More on this story to come |

Purification of Midor Posted: 19 May 2004 09:13 PM |
High Paladin Rayinor Liam would have liked to personally oversee the crews that were currently extinguishing the final fires in Midor. It was fortunate that most of Midor was made of stone, thought the High-Paladin, or else the fire would have been more extensive. In the end, the temple itself had only minor damage. Not so for the city's southern half, where two of the few wooden buildings in the city were consumed by fire. The arsonist's had little care for who their fire hurt; three family's were caught within the blaze.
There were no survivors.
Liam felt old for the first time since he had taken the office of High-Paladin. His seventieth year was not far off, and his body seemed to be finally catching up to his age. He ached, but he knew it was not all due to age. After all, Liam was very spry for having spent the last fifty years as a paladin in the service of the Order. No, the pain he felt now was in his heart.
He had spent fifty years of promoting justice and protecting the innocent. Fifty years of self-sacrifice and service; he had seen much. He had seen Midor shine brightly as a beckon of goodness in the dark sea of the world. That was when he was young and idealistic, as most paladins fresh from the Academy were. Then, the future was nothing but possibility, and justice was respected by all who entered the gates of the White City.
The last year had been the hardest. The discover of White Bishop Fetter as a servant of Gukathul was a major blow to the church; one that it had not yet recovered from. It was difficult to promote justice, thought Liam, when the Conclave was tied up in the politics of choosing a new White Bishop. But last month, a selection had finally been made, and Liam hoped that positive change would follow.
Liam had always liked Cassius, now called Carmon Verit. He was a fine choice for White Bishop and someone, Liam hoped, that he could work with to slice through the political quagmire that could be Midoran politics. The church was, in no uncertain terms, the government of Midor. This placed most of the actual power in the hands of the White Bishop. Liam understood that the paladins of the Order, himself included, usually took their direction from the clerical leadership of Midor. With corrupted leadership, as with the case of Fetter, and the leadership vacuum that followed, the status of Midor had diminished quickly.
The world views us as evil , thought Liam sadly, Midoran challenges us with this. Midor had grown complacent in the years before Fetter. It had become drunk on it's own status as a paragon of goodness in the world. And in that drunken state, it had not been vigilant against the enemies that sought to defame and defile holy Midor.
And now, terror has struck Midor. The enemies of the Great God, under a haze of false accusations, have taken a torch to Midor herself. This affront could not go unanswered. Justice would be served.
Which is why Liam was sitting at his desk now, his quill poised over an official looking document. The document was fashioned at the request of the White Bishop and other high ranking member of the clergy. He reread what was written, his eyes straining in the candlelight. :
Joint Decree by the White Bishop and High Paladin of Midor
Citizens of Midor,
We have become derelict in our duty. The enemies of Justice have attempted to strike in the heart of our fair city. If you ask who is responsible for this travesty, then each of us must look into a mirror. We have assured ourselves that were are invulnerable, that Midoran will protect us against all things. But we have failed to heed Midoran's must important teaching. He will give strength to us, but we are the stewards of his lands. We should not expect the Great God to walk among us as if He were mortal. Rather, we must draw upon the teachings of Midoran to give us the courage and strength to defend that which we have stewardship over.
We have grown derelict, allowing politics and perversion to infest the very core of our being. And so now, as in the days of the Salvation of Aristi, we must purge evil and perversion from our midst. And so we shall begin.
All who wish to promulgate evil in Midor, beware. Your kind shall be hunted and killed by the Order of Midoran, Midor, and her agents. No longer will you receive succor in Midor, nor will your vile acts of murder, violence, and heresy be tolerated. Justice shall be swift and decisive.
To accomplish the true Justice of Midoran, the following shall be enacted immediately:
1) The Conclave of Midor shall be disbanded for the duration of this crisis. Supreme authority shall be given directly to the White Bishop and the High Paladin.
2) Trials shall no longer be handled by the High Court of Midor. A clerical tribunal shall be convened to handle all legal disputes. The Tribunal shall handle all judgment and sentencing of prisoners. The Tribunal shall be headed by High Judge Griffin. It will also contain Bishop Vidus Khain and Lord-Bishop Kurvious Seyon. Lower ranking members of the clergy can, with the High Judge's approval, perform as proxies for any member of the Tribunal as the situation warrants.
3) The Midoran Guard shall be granted authority to arrest and detain any individual suspected of performing seditious or heretical acts within the city of Midor. The Guard will also be granted the authority to search individuals as deemed necessary and confiscate any contraband items found.
4) Any act of violence in violation of Midoran law shall be punishable by death. Public executions shall be held every Monday at dawn.
*The seal of the Order of Midoran is affixed at the bottom*
Fear is an unknown thing to paladins. Their lack of fear sometimes is seen as bravado or insanity, but in reality, it is a reflection of the paladins unflinching belief in themselves and their righteousness. A true paladin has no fear of death or pain, so long as the cause of righteousness is served. But that night, in the dimness of his office, the High-Paladin felt a twinge of fear. In truth, such steps were necessary to protect the people of Midor from further danger. Hopefully, it was the right choice.
Liam signed the document quickly. He summoned a currier with instructions to deliver the document with all haste to the White Bishop and a copy to the Law Courts.

Re: Purification of Midor Posted: 19 May 2004 11:12 PM |
His head pounded and his chest burned. The spells and the potions could only do so much to heal wounds. Coruva sat before his torn armor, carefully replacing the iron bands that had been torn away. His fingers where busy at the work, his mind drifting over and over the blood and smoke that filled the air only one night ago.
He had known those two, Pickston and Jessup, since he first set foot near the Port and Midor. Things were easier back then. Perhaps it was naivete or some bond that travellers extend to one another that drew them all together. He had welcomed their company. Had walked behind them in their travels. Had even admired them for their dashing behaviour and whit. But it had changed at some point. That comraderie had waned. It had grown hazy over the years, being obscured by duty and beliefs that had slowly cut a thin line of division between them. That haze, the small veil of mist that begins to distort time had taken away the reasons, and left only the conviction in its wake. The two he had known as fellow travelers had begun to turn into rivals.
It had come to light that eve when he stepped into Midor. The two familiar faces before him. Their eyes glowing in a determined light. He should have known. The drawn blades, the posture, the expression on their faces. The talk was subtle and peaceful to start. The passing of Merum, Macha’s role in the death. But it soon turned sour. Dah saw it, why hadn’t he? Dah had seen some insight that was hidden from Coruva. Some small twist in their face…a light in their eyes. He had warned Coruva…..but it passed without heed. Then the blood and flames begain. Too many memories flooded back. Before the days near Pickston, Jessup, and his friends. Before the days that he had given up his wandering. The fires, they where the same as the thatched roofs of the huts. The cries of pain and death….where like the screams on the battlefield. It had to be stopped before it would engulf him.
He was never a warrior. His hand never as strong as others. But the blood had to be stopped. And in the end, his own mingled with those of the fallen. His blood wetting the stone of Midor, being covered by the ashes of the blaze. Only one stood next to him. Dah did what he could to aid, but a belief and a hope where little match against the fists and steel. Again he fell…and finally, he could not rise. He could only stare at the sky, watching the glowing ashes drop from the sky like a gentle snowfall.
He places the last of the metal plates in place, and covers the armor with an oilcloth. His mind returning to the present and to the wounds still festering on his chest. They had finally crossed that fine line between what was just and what was damnation. He would help them along that path. With a grimace, he ties the mace to his belt and places the armor across his back. Let Midor do as they wish. If they do not find justice, he would. In the end, blood would spill. |

Rumours and tales are whispered or occasionally voiced openly amongst some small fraction of the Midorian people. Rumours that the Midorian church is corrupt with greed, strife with internal politics and ignorant in their arrogance. Rumours that Midorian justice is a concept spat upon anywhere and everywhere outside the walls of Midor. Rumours that things would be better without the Midorians in power, that maybe even a council could be elected from amongst the different factions in the city. A council that would look after and protect teh people of Midor as the Midorians continually fail to do. A council that would return Midor to its status as a shining example to the rest of the civilized races of what human strength, knowledge and skill can achieve.
But for now, they are just whispered rumours.
Should anybody follow those rumours back to their source, the origin of many would begin at a male human with a scarred face who wears black and gold armour, carries a gleaming double axe and walks like he knows how to use it. |

A flicker of an ironic smile crosses his face, as he digests the news from Midor. For it was not very long ago that the Paladin told him he was, "Not certain Midor needs someone to, as you say, fix the stickier problems."
That dismissal rankled for a bit, but he knew enough to know that patience would pay off.
From the cannonade walls of the Port city, his gaze lands on a seagull stripping the flesh off the bones of a wayward and waylaid sewer rat. The bird never truly alights, as it tears at the last bits of flesh from the carcass and flies off to take station up above the docks, scanning for it's next meal.
Kurtis' own stomach rumbles a bit as he turns back from the wall to book passage on the Aegea. They'll be good meals to be had in Midor. |

With the recent and brutal slaying of High Judge Griffin, Priestess Blanche La Belle has been appointed to a position on the Midoran Tribunal. Lord-Bishop Kurvious Seyon will step down from the Tribunal to make way for High-Captian Phillippe Jongras, who will serve as the Paladin representative on the Tribunal. Bishop Vidus Khain has been named Chairman of the Midoran Tribunal.
High Judge Griffin was, by Midoran's grace, raised from his untimely death by the holy priests of Midor. He is currently recovering in his quarters at the Law Courts. We ask that all people loyal to Midor pray for his swift recovery.

| ((You apparently have no idea what has gone on with regard to Midor, Also your comments are bordering on insults. You contradicted yourself, ya see Midor is a tyrannical oppressive theocracy. It is more so similar to todays Iran than for instance the Unites States. You newer players really should talk to people first and find out the facts before ya start runnin off at the mouth in the forums and making comments without knowing all the facts. Have you looked at the dates at all on those posts? If ya would look to know more about Midor et al feel free to pm me or someone that has been around awhile and ask them ooc. Things have changed somewhat with regard to Midor, but that is more because of ooc changes in the vives team. Keep in mind folks, the actul series of historical events in vives and what was reported are not always accurate. The reasons for groups to dislike one another or to fight one another, who is right and who is wrong is all in the eye of the beholder. What most pcs see on the surface with regard to Midor is all neat an tidy these days especially, it was not so just a few weeks ago)) |

((Churchs are independent organizations last time I checked. Also Midoran forced his way with a group into control of what was once Aristi, it became Midor in his name after he purged anyone with the disease from the land as well as anyone that did not submit to his authority or was part of the old regime.
