The Order of Midoran
Posted: 23 Apr 2004 06:41 PM
The one True Light…now barely a flickering flame in the winds of evil…

The world around is crumbles to its core, the Light barely permeating the thick, choking stench of evil surrounding the lands. Governments become corrupt, common theives walk the street, and the virtues and laws set down upon this vast realm by Midoran have been ignored and desecrated. Chaotic gods both benign and cancerous to the lives of many good-souled peoples threaten their immortal afterlife, and in our streets and homes, the hallowed Code of Brakus is far from realized.

Our hope dims, but our strength and our faith do not. For we are the brothers and sisters of the True Faith, of the True Light that shines bright in each of our souls. Through our Code and through our shields, honor and virtue will reign. Strength, Honor, Chastity, Kindness…these are but few of our lives’ work, and for these we will lay down our lives to bring the holy Light back into the lives of the wretched and ignorant.

Go now, those of the True Order, and preach to the world through your actions, through your bravery, and through your entire lives in service to all that is good and just in these lands. The plague of evil shall not stay long, for the tide of the divine crashes against the very bastions that seek to hold the righteous back. And in the end…we shall prevail…

~~Opening Prayer by the High Paladin Rayinor Liam of the True Order, 1st Templar Division of the Midoran Temple~~
[all thanks to the original author Fenarisk ]

The Order of Midoran has stood for centruies as the last bastion of goodness and light in the world. Noble paladins and vitruious priests working side by side in the defense of trust Justice and holiness. The Order's mission is to protect Midor from all threats, both internal and external and spread the word of Midoran to the weak and the innocent of the world. Here lies the true nature of the Order of Midoran; a society of self-sacrifice and self-control that promotes truth and light in a world of darkness and deciet.

OOC Below you will find information on the Order of Midoran and the government of Midor. More information will be posted as it become available.

The Conclave
Posted: 23 Apr 2004 06:43 PM
Please note that the Conclave has been reinstated by order of White Biship Vidus Khain. Khain retains full veto authority over all Conclave actions. This suspenction happned several RL months ago and should not be considered new news.

The Conclave is the governing body of Midor. Public membership consists of the White Bishop, the High Paladin, the two Lord-Bishops, and two High Captians. This, however, is not the extent of the Conclave's membership. The exact nature of the Conclaves membership is not certain, but legend and rumor lead most people to conclude that there are 26 additional members of the Conclave. These people range in rank from bishops and paladins, nobles and merchants and even the occassional begger. The Conclave strives to have a diversified membership on the theory that Midoran's justice can only be served by the inclusion of wide ranging viewpoints.

The Conclave could be considered a legislative branch of Midor’s government. Propositions before the Conclave must be approved by a 2/3 majority vote. The White Bishop is the only figure that has veto power over all Conclave decisions save the appointment. The White Bishop is also the only office that can appoint new Conclave members. The Conclave does not have the authority it once had to appoint a new High Paladin and White Bishop.

The Conclave, with much guidence from the clergy, is the source of all Midoran law. New laws are debated and past by the Conclave to be enforced by the Order of Midoran. Outdated and old laws can be struck down. The Conclave has the power to send petitions to the High Court, headed by High Judge Griffin. Decisions passed down from the High Court can only be reversed by decree of the White Bishop or the High Paladin. It is very rare that the White Bishop or the High Paladin entertain cases already decided by the High Court. It is even rarer that the decisions are overturned, as the High Court is considered by many the epidomy of Midoran law.

The Conclave meets in the Midor Law Courts for seven days each month. It is presided over by the High Judge, a position currently occupied by a righteous man named Griffin. All petitioners that wish to stand before the Conclave must make an appointment at the Midor Law office. Only the public members of the Conclave are present at these meetings, to protect the identity of the remaining Conclave members.

Hierarchy of the Order of Midoran - Paladin Command Structure
Posted: 23 Apr 2004 06:47 PM
Righteous Sword Command Structure
I. High Paladin Johanas Uvanle

1. Other names for the High Paladin: Defender of the Faith, Right Hand of Midoran, The Arm of Justice, Protector of Midor.

2. In charge of the military side of the Order of Midoran. Considered a High General in Midoran's military.

3. Commander of the 1st Templar Division, which is the elite paladins of Midoran

4. Bio: High-Paladin Johanas Uvanle trained under Rayinor Liam at the Academy. He is intensely loyal to his former teacher and has followed him up the ranks, always ready to serve his commander. He became a High Paladin by edict of the White Bishop Vidus Khain. He is also the head of the Righteous Swords in Midor.

II. High-Capitan’s Connee Salian and Kaidrian Donnel

1. Two High Captains are responsible for the administration of Midor's military, including internal defenses, foot soldier training, and organizing military campaigns during times of war.

2. Each has field command over 1/2 of the 1st Templar Division.

3. Bio: Connee Salian trained at the Academy of Midoran from the tender age of eight. She excelled in her training, and was one of the rare few that passed her trials early. Connee was only seventeen years old. Connee’s first several assignments were performed efficiently, but without any particular distinction. She did not truly get noticed until the Goblin Incursions. During a particularly harsh battle, Connee took command of her platoon after the senior paladin fell to a poisoned goblin arrow. She rallied the soldiers, who were out numbered three to one, and lead them to safety. The Midoran regulars present at the battle to this day swear that the twenty-five year old paladin slew at least one hundred goblins with by herself, opening a path that allowed the regulars to retreat to safety.

Conne Salian was appointed High-Captain to replace the Johanas Uvanle, who was promoted to the position of High Paladin. She is one of the founding members of the Righteous Swords, and is the Preceptor of the Order of the Eagle.

4. Bio: Kadrian Donnel is an oddity among paladin, much like the man he replaces, Phillippe Jongras. He is a short man, standing only five feet tall, but his height belies his combat prowess. His skin is very dark, as it typical of the Kobai tribes. Kadrian’s grandfather, a member of one of the Kobai tribes, fled to Midor sixty years ago. His family abandoned the ways of the Kobai in favor of Midoran. His son, Kadrian’s father, became a well respected merchant in Midor. Some say he was, and still is, a member of the Conclave, but as membership to that body is secret, no one is sure.

Kadrian was sent to the Academy as soon as he was old enough. He was an outstanding student, and graduated at the top of his class. He is surprisingly young for a High Captain, again like his precdicessor. Kadrian was specifically sought by the Preceptor when the Righteous Sword to form the core of the Red Knights.

Corbin Slade

5. A third High-Capitan, Corbin Slade , is in charge of instructing Righteous Sword knights at the Midoran University.
i. -This High-Captain has no direct authority in the military command structure.

b. Bio: Corbin Slade , is a mystery to most. Little is known about his background. He is a pure-blood Midoran, however, and is exacting in his training of the Righteous Sword knights.

6. Each High Capitan has a Lieutenant-High-Capitan whose names are not specified

III. Knight-Captain, Anandur Barradon

1. Directly responsible for all facets of Midoran’s military (except for Midor’s guards)

2. Holds a Regimental command in the 1st Templar Division (often times delegated to a subordinate due to time constraints, this title is mostly ceremonial)
3. Answers to Both High-Capitan Uvanle and Jongras

4. Bio: N/A

IV. Multiple Lieutenants. All of the Midoran Paladin PC's

1. Report directly to Knight-Captain Barradon..

2. Excellent role-playing may be rewarded with a promotion to Captain. Captains have authority over Lieutenants, though they still report directly to Knight-Capitan Barradon.

V. Sammaël Melchor, Guard Commander and Gatekeeper of Midor.

1. Responsible for the internal defense of Midor.

2. Commands guards, not paladins, thus placing him outside the paladin command structure.
i. Officially reports to the High Paladin, though has an unofficial reporting relationship with the White Bishop.

3. Guard-Commander is a traditional role that can be directly traced to the times of Aristi. In ancient times, the Guard-Commander was responsible for the perimeter defenses of Aristi. The role has sense evolved to include all of Midor’s defenses.

4. Bio: Raised in a military family, Sammaël Melchor is the very definition of an ideal soldier. He is driven to achieve perfection in all he does, oftentimes at the expense of personal relationships. He rose quickly through the ranks of the Midoran military, achieving the rank of Captain of the 13th Midoran Regulars, a defense regiment, at the astounding age of 24. The 13th Regular’s became known as the “Wall of Steel” during the Goblin Incursions for their unbending protection of the Great Plains against wave after wave of goblin forces. The “Wall of Steel” prevented the Midoran army from being flanked while suffering only five casualties. All of this was due to Sammaël’s inspired leadership. To this day, many attribute the lack of aggression by the goblin population to the fact that goblins are afraid of again facing Melchor on the battlefield.

Having earned legendary status for the 13th Midoran Regulars, High-Paladin Liam personally chose Sammaël to the position Guard-Commander. Sammaël is the youngest person to serve at Guard-Commander since the early days of Aristi, where the title originated. Since his appointment, Sammaël has served with distinction, most recently in defense of Midor against the undead horde of Fri’el Skygem.

Inquisitors of Midor

The Inquisitors of Midor are part of the Righteous Swords, but they do not report to the High Paladin. Inquisitors are answerable only to the White Bishop.

Missing in Action

I. Former High Paladin Rayinor Liam

1. Former High Paladin, he was arrested and held by the Righteous Swords for several months. His escape from the Isle of Midoran is a story full of rumor and half truths, but in the end, no one really knows what happened.

2. After the Battle fo the Plains, Rayinor Liam, former High Paladin of the Order of Midoran, vanished from public view. Some say he is dead, others missing, and still others say he is in hiding, waiting for a chance to reform the rebellion.

Former High Captian Phillippe Jongras

Bio: Phillippe Jongras was an oddity amongst paladins. Born to a wealthy merchant family in Port Royale, he abandoned his family’s wealth to join the Midoran Academy. He was only fifteen at the time, which is considered a very late age to begin training for paladinhood. Still, Phillippe learned quickly, leading his instructors to comment that Midoran himself must have plans for the child to give him such talent so quickly. In active duty, Phillippe served with distinction in the Kobold uprisings, the Goblin Incursions, and more recently, the undead attack on Midor. His heroism in the battle against Fri’el, where he saved the paladin Mykal Vecar from certain death at the hands of Fri’el, earned him the title of High-Capitan at the unprecedented age of 40, making him the youngest High-Captain in the history of Midor.

Phillippe was arrested as a heretic and traitor to Midoran shortly after the rise of Vidus Khain to the position of White Bishop. He was executed in short order by the Righteous Swords. His official status, according to the Midoran High Court, is "deceased." Midor has not, however, been able to stop the rumors of Phillippe's continued existence, which, if true, would be a significant embarassment to Midor.

Killed in Action

Former High Captian Perriand Goodman

Bio: Perriand Goodman has entered his 50's with dignity and grace. A former regimental commander of the 1st Templar Division, Perriand has plenty of experience in the field. His forte, however, comes in his swordsmanship. He is famous through Vives as a master swordsman. In his youth he competed in several swordsmanship tournaments, finally winning so many times that he was given the honorary title of Grand Swordsman and politely asked to retire from competition. He is able to handle and type of sword with ease. That, along with his knowledge of battlefield tactics, made him an obvious choice to head up the training of new paladins at the Midoran Academy.

He is assumed dead after the destruction of the Isle of Midoran.

Re: Hierarchy of the Order of Midoran - Clergy Hierarchal Structure
Posted: 23 Apr 2004 06:55 PM
I. White Bishop Vidus Khain

1. Other names for the White Bishop…Your Grace, His Holiness, Midoran’s voice, Defender of the Faith.

2. Represents Midoran's word on Vives. He is the sole authority on all spiritual matters for the Midoran faith.

3. i. Bio: Vidus Khain has spend most of his life as a simple priest fighting against the internal politics inherent in the Midoran Temple. Recent events have propelled Vidus into a position to effect positive change to Midor. He is widely believed by Midoran's to have brought true holiness and justice back to Midor after the tragic Fetter incident.

White Bishop Khain is also a prolific writer, authoring several Encyclicals and Books on theology and faith.

II. Lord-Bishop Gabriel Certos and Thomas Carline

1. Administrators for the White Bishop, these two bishops have the power to implement the decrees of the White Bishop. Lord-Bishops possess a great power and influence in Midoran society, earning them status equivalent of high-ranking nobles.

i. Bio: Gabriel Certos was an elder priest of the Order of Midoran. He is widely regarded as an expert in Midoran theology and is noted for his wisdom. His appointment as Lord-Bishop by White Bishop Khain surprised the New Order orthodoxy. He has served as an able, albeit inactive, Lord-Bishop, handling mostly ceremonial and administrative affairs of stae.

ii. Bio: Thomas Carline is a relative unknown to the old clergy. He is young, having just turned thirty-five, and is one of the first of the new Supremacists. As such, he is a strict adherent to Khain’s New Order orthodoxy and dogma.

III. Bishops

1. Carry out the orders of the Lord-Bishops.

2. Each bishop is responsible for a certain "parish" in Midor (or wherever the faithful live)

3. Only the White Bishop can ordain Bishops

IV. Priests

1. Commonly referred to as “Father” or “Mother,” priests are the cornerstones of Midoran society. Whether performing services at the temple, preaching in the streets, or performing mission work in distant lands, the priests of Midoran are held to the highest standards of Justice, Temperance, and Courage. Priests focus mainly on the virtues of Courage and Temperance, creating a balance between them and the Paladins in the Order.

V. Acolytes

1. Acolytes are still in training at the Midoran Academy. Some acolytes, if they show great aptitude at the Academy, are sent to Midor to serve under bishops or Lord-Bishops. Either the White Bishop or a Lord-Bishop performs ordination of acolytes to the priesthood.

2. Those aspiring to priesthood may enter the seminary at any time, however, only a few are given the honor of being an Acolyte. Acolytes come from all walks of life, from peasants to nobility. In the seminary, all distinctions of class and wealth are abolished. The wealthiest man must wash dishes next to the poorest beggar. At least, that is how it is in theory. In reality, the social structure of Midor bleeds into the priesthood. The noble born or wealthy seminarians tend to get the plumb assignments upon graduation, while the poorer Acolytes are assigned the dirty and dangerous jobs.

Former Notable Clergy

I. White Bishop Carmon Verit I

Bio: Born Cassius Rienhart, the name Carmon Verit I was bestowed upon his ascension to the position of White Bishop. The name Carmon was granted to Cassius by the Conclave in honor of a saint from the Salvation of Aristi. Verit indicates that Cassius (now called Carmon) is the first White Bishop in the line of Verit, the previous line ending with Merrick’s treachery.

The recent Conclave that chose Carmon Verit I was the shortest in the history of Midor. Little debate was held, as the Conclave felt showing the clergies strength and unity was of utmost importance. Carmon Verit I succeeded the interim White Bishop, Krurvious Sayon, who served after Merrick’s recent demise but was not officially granted the title of White Bishop by the Conclave. Carmon Verit I is a fiery speaker that has a history of inflaming the hearts and minds of the people with his sermons. He has dedicated himself to restoring the people’s faith in the clergy after the devastating events of Merrick’s tenure as White Bishop.

Verit’s sudden retirement cleared the path for the ascension of Vidus Khain to the White Bishop’s throne.

II. Kruvious Seyon was a Lord-Bishop of Midoran.
Bio: Kruvious Seyon appears harder then Elwyan, but in fact he is equally committed to promoting the word of Midor. Currently in his mid-60’s, Kruvious became a Lord-Bishop only three years ago. His energy and zeal for his God make him a charismatic speaker, and he is quite popular with the commoner’s of Midor. The nobles, however, resent what they view as “pandering” to the lesser classes by a high-ranking member of the clergy. He has been missing since the destruction of the Isle of Midoran. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Code of Brakus
Posted: 25 Apr 2004 11:56 PM
Vives is a land where good is borderlined at best, with gods controlling their pawns and clerics as much as their followers control their granted divine magics. Good has many meanings, and evil is thick within the lands. There is one shining hope among this, however, and that hope is but a flickering candle among the encroachoing darkness, the gods overhead battling for greater power. That candle in the darkness is the True Order, the Midoran order of Paladins.

Paladins within Vives have a strict, specific code they must follow. Their heirarchy is that of a militaristic view mingled with the leadership and structure of the local Midoran church. Being the last bastion of a long lost belief in solid morals, codes, and laws that are the epitomy of a lawful good nature, their strict lifestyle and belief system dates back to the recordings of Midoran, the patron diety of the grand city Midor and of all things good and holy. Through this powerful, awe-inspiring god and his teachings, the True Light is worshipped as the strength and piety within each person to do good and abide by the humane and fair laws that is set upon by the church and by the ancient code of Brakus.

Though the standard faith in the "True Light" lingering is the very will and epitomy of the teachings and blessings of Midoran, their stoic set of rules and codes of conduct are taken from the ancient, stone tablets that were said to have been written by the searing magnificence of Midoran himself during the Great Plague, handed down to the first paladin of The Order of the True Light, the paladin Brakus. Known as the "Code of Brakus", the ideals and beliefs upheld by each and every paladin within The Order never stray from the Code of Brakus...

Code Of Brakus:
*Courage and strength amid the face of evil and challenge
*Respect for all peers and equals...none save the wretched are lesser
*Chaste and humble nature befitting a paladin. Piety before Prurience
*Virtue in acton and in battle, no matter the foe
*Honor and Loyalty to The Order of the True Light, til death intervene
*Defense of those weaker, in the name of good and loyalty to our providing land
*Death to those who actively oppose the Code and to goodness within the land
*A clear mind and heart, doubt and faithlessness purged by the True Light

((~Fenarisk))

NOTE: The Code of Brakus is set forth for paladins to follow. The priests of Midoran give respect to this code, but are not bound by it.

Membership to the Order of Midoran
Posted: 09 Jun 2004 08:24 AM
It should be noted that, currently, only humans are allowed membership in the Order of Midoran. Humans are the primary worshipers of Midoran, thus the membership limitation.

Do not forget to consider this when making a cleric or paladin of Midoran. Feel free come to me with questions regarding the Order, paladins, and clerics of Midoran.

Thank you,

Mykal
