Lag Deaths Posted: 29 Feb 2004 08:07 PM |
Daah sits in the corner nursing a beer salted with tears.... Seems my morale suffered terribly today due to 2 lag deaths...would have liked to participate today but it wasnt to be. I am not sure how much more I'll be participating on this server if the current experience continues. Its very frustrating to work on a char so hard only to have the lag monster eat my chars. I've tried clearing my chests (currently have zero crafting materials on any chars) of all unnecesary items. I've dropped my packs down to one apiece but lag still raises its ugly head. Im on cable and have a reasonably fast machine, but Im at a loss as what more I can do. Goes back to drinking...hoping tomorrow will be better.... |

| I took a 1600 xp lag nap today as well. My solution is henceforth, Im going into dangerous situations only when there are few people on the server... those lag deaths are very frustrating. |

We don't expect you to just bite the bullet when you are killed due to technical difficulties. All players who died during the event today were raised, unless they left while dead and did not return.
If you have a problem, contact a DM and we'll get you sorted out. Of course, people who continually die of "lag death" will certainly find their response to be more... inquisitive, but we have no interest in making people suffer due to flaws in the infrastructure. |

If it's a lag caused by death, as Landru said, if the circumstances are right we have no problem raising people due to technical difficulties if it really was so bad you couldn't even run away or such...just ask in a PM, or on IRC, or the DM channel IG if there is one IG at the present time...

Re: Lag Deaths Posted: 29 Feb 2004 11:21 PM |
| I've gotten raised by dm's before for technical issue ranging from horrid lag spikes (a dm was actually watching that one), that odd crash bug where you crash upon killing certain creatures, and server crashes where you a mage that spawns unbuffed in the middle of giants and end up dying before your screeen loads. What you dont want to do is make up stuff and try to get raises, they are not dumb and you'll get caught eventually. But if you have a good reasons just ask and they will be happy to help, well someone times they might bitch at you but its all in good jest :). |

The DM's have been very, very good about this. Please, please, don't abuse it.
If you die stupidly, take the respawn hit and be thankful for only the XP and gold loss, or find an IG reason for rescue, or die in a publicly travelled area so that your corpse can be found.

*hangs head* Just wanted to say that Sinjin also fell victim to the slowing of time yesterday evening - prior to the evil udead spawning at Midor. Luckily Macha and Mykal alerted some clerics that he died and he was taken to Midor.
OOC I feel your pain. |
Humbly Submitted,

The number of times Ive been bashing F1 to HiPS or F11 to down a cure critical wounds potion only for the lag monster to suddenly disappear and hear that awful groan and death music...makes my skin crawl!
I was under the impression that lag deaths would not be subject to DM intervention? I'm sure that is/was part of the topic in irc, if only I'd known! |

I would like to publicly say thank you to DM Lisen for restoring my xp and gold after a Greater Lag took my life.
:)
This is a very player-friendly policy and I for one appreciate the time, effort and TRUST shown to the players. Now, if we can only do some self-policing and make certain this policy is not abused I think we will all be better for it. |

Okay, I just wanna know who else has this lag issue, because I've all but given up hope of ever playing again what with my lag issues. Decent comp, cable connection, 1.62 patch, and yet still no luck. If anyone came up with anything that worked for them, please say so.
If nothing works for me soon, I'm just gonna play games with pings of 50, like Counter-Strike, or BattleGrounds, or I might even play the single player games.
Hoping for a division to follow in my stead: Forlorn Hope, Company of Select Marksmen |

| In my exprerience, there is no lag if you log in in the off hours, when there are around 10 or less people on. When the server is fuller, you might want to stick to RP and less dangerous areas. Thats my new strategy anyway. |

I can refute this. It is 10am CST. I had a 196 ping when I logged on. There were 9 people in the server. It was nice and smooth for a while then the server crashed. I also had two incidents of 'spike' lag earlier.
I do not think it is population related. I think it is related to the onclient enter scripting. |
