2 bugs
Posted: 12 Feb 2004 07:12 AM
Chandler and I have attempted to find Nush's father in Lynaeum twice, last night immediately after a reset and neither time was it possible to complete what we had to do. Apparently, Nush's father's . . . er . . . cadaver is not reset along with the monsters.

Also, this mornng when I logged on I noticed some very odd treasure drops. In Gorlath Manor basement one of the undead dropped 1,561 gp. Then, in Carfax town, a Vengeful Spirit also dropped 1,561 gp. Then in Carfax Manor a book dropped 1,563 gp (I suspect the normal drop of 2 gp +1,561 gp) AS MUCH AS I APPRECIATE THE GOLD, I doubt very much if this is in the spirit of things.

Also, now that I have been a good do-be I would also like to ask why do the merchants have nothing to sell anymore. I am not even talking about magic items, that's horrid enough to lose, I mean normal everyday regular items that one needs to complete some simple quests. Seems very odd.

Thank you and good night.

Callia

That's weird. When I was on yesterday, I didn't find a -single- drop above 1 gp (With the exception of a couple of "Set Drop" items).

weird, I keep getting some pretty nice drops like several potions or heal kits. Plus I've never seen so many magic items spawn in containers, shame the merchants are a bunch of tight fists though! Plus I still seem to be finding lots of those scarabs of protection +3, atleast one a day I think.

I got both this morning. 1 GP and 1561 GP. Also the (now) usual assortment of non-magical weapons, and one with 8 moderate potions of healing. Except for the 1561 gold, I've seen all of these sorts for several days now, including a stack of +1 bandages (which was however lost in a crash not long after). The containers that I usually run across these days contain a handful of gold or perhaps a gem or two, and very rarely an extremely welcome cure critical wound potion.

Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset.

Yes, still plenty of 1 and 2 gp drops, but the huge drop of gold was too odd not to comment on.

Please report all the chests that are doing this. If it is more along the extreme lines of which chests DON'T do this, then help us out by going about it that way toon (Using the bug reported). If you are seen just hoarding things while we tweak the treasure tables and such, expect me personally to get on your a$ with the oh-so happy DM affliction wand.

Thank you for starting this topic with the bugs. We do know about the quest one and are looking to fix it. As per the chests, I think we are currently having some odd bugs while tweaking them, so these kind of things are appreciated. Thanks RutgerSmiley.

Well about that quest I have reported it LONGGGGG ago but still not fixed, About the drops, well I hadnt the luck to find anything like that, in fact with the new drops and this weird merchants idea of non persistency, I cant find anything to buy, Its kind of sad, but in fact I dont even look into merchants anymore, and spend all my gold trying to change armor....I belive this isnt the way to folow

Why search around when the answer is within you...?

You're welcome.

It wasn't chests, the gold was being dropped by monsters. If I remember correctly it wad the lowly spirits in the basement of Gorlath, not even the wights but the very first things you encounter upon entering. And in Carfax it was a Vengeful Spirit near the entrance to the transition to the Manor screen there. The third was one of the books but I cannot remember which one.

All the chest treasure looked to be pretty normal this morning.

When you say 'hoarding things' what exactly do you mean? I'm a bit of a pack rat and tend to carry lots of things around. For example I've sold very gems since been playing on Vives and carry them all around with me, are you saying that is not allowed? I also do the same with rings and necklaces.

Thanks

I think that by hoarding they mean using the system to 'get rich quick'... If you find a chest that keeps popping out +3 items and don't report it, and keep going and looting it, it seems that would be abusal of mechanics.

With Nicodemus, I found a scarab of protection +3 on a corpse heading to the Icy Vale. Other than that I haven't found hardly anything on drops except one group of 8 cure light wound potions in a barrel, but I thought those were just lucky finds. He's only level 4, so it's probably not related to level.

*nods* The quest was got bugged when Ara was fixing over all the placeables from the HotU change and we havn't had a chance to fix it up yet. It is on the list though.

Also, this mornng when I logged on I noticed some very odd treasure drops. In Gorlath Manor basement one of the undead dropped 1,561 gp. Then, in Carfax town, a Vengeful Spirit also dropped 1,561 gp. Hmm.. a wight (or a ghast) from Gorlath, a Venglful spirit from carfax, and a possessed flying book from Carfax also. I'd say its very much in the spirit of things. Wink. Seriously though, thanks for the info, we'll look into the drop scripts on those.

Also, now that I have been a good do-be I would also like to ask why do the merchants have nothing to sell anymore. I am not even talking about magic items, that's horrid enough to lose, I mean normal everyday regular items that one needs to complete some simple quests. Seems very odd.

We are working on merchants, persistance on most (if not all) has been removed, and we are experiencing growing pains with them. If you feel there is something missing, feel free to PM me with it and we'll get it onto the evergrowing list

Thank you and good night.

You know, I really like this world.

thanks folks, this is a great place to play.

It wasn't the wight though, it was one of the wimpy little spirits I think. Don't want you looking in the wrong place.

Thanks for the heads-up, we'll look into it. *twiddles thumb, eyes darting elsewhere, cheeks ablazed*

Well, someone did fiddle with the low-level treasure drops with the intent of things being more generous... specifically I've (gosh, I have?!) added in some more gold. I have the feeling that the additional 12-13 stacks of gold I've added in as random treasure (some are 500, some are 20 etc.) are somehow stuffed together, giving the 1563 goldpieces. Will have a look.

They're not more generous! They're insanely stingy! Apparently, with the exception of these massive gold drops, and a couple of nice stacks of potions every hour.

But low lvl magic items (+1 weapon/armour/shield ETC), it's just impossible to find them.

"Generous" is the word for what I follied just yesterday (the 1563), in response to the otherwise stingy treasure table.

I don't think we have ever wanted to place in magical items as generic drops without a means to control and evaluate them - afterall, a rich wraith may be hard to imagine, but a wraith carrying an holy avenger may be even more absurd Wink

In any case, I'll be looking at these in the upcoming days, now that generic mechanics things are sorted out. Treasure tables and merchants that is...

Monsters should definitely drop magical items in my opinion. They should be able to scripted or the treasure tables worked with to drop minor miscellaneous magic items at the very least. There are so many damage resistant monsters out there, that adventurers need at the very least +1 weapons. Something like a 1% chance of a monster dropping a magical item would be nice, no need for them to be +5 suits of plate mail, but they should be varied and useful.

I do what the voices in my head tell me too.

Yes, I think magical items are nice when we get around to customizing the drops and inputting them there. But not in the generic monster drop (which as of now is shared with every barrel and trunk out there)...

-- Spoilers Follow--

There's a starter quest that gives a +1 enhancement weapon for the very purpose of giving adventurers a fighting chance against DR monsters.

No, it has not been addressed. I suppose it doesn't hurt for you folks to get some multiples of 1561 for a day or so... it'll probably get fixed in 1.60/1.61 (lol Now i sound like bioware Tongue out)
