The standard has been met and exceeded. No, let me rephrase: has been met and EXCEEDED.

I look at V1 and go, that's pretty good, considering we're just working with whatever we've been handed.

I look at V2 and go.... holy CRAP, that's awesome!

That isn't hype. I mean, seriously... V2 is just... wow.

You want more lore? And quality lore? Man... let me tell you, V2 has it, and it will rock your socks!

I would like to see more expansive ruling authorities.

For example, "A" or many human kings - who actually feel like Kings. To get that feeling that they are an actual ruling authority, who do have interests outside of the roleplaying in their castle. And are actually an empire, not just a city.

For Example, like how Midor has that small outpost near the farmlands.

Races (specific ones, like Humans and Elves I would think), should have huge tracts of territory. So that you would probably come into contact with Monster infested outposts (with brief sanctity inside forts) at the furthest outskirts of their empires, multiple small villages and farmlands en route to the heartland of the Empire. Larger cities on the boarder, and finally - a "Capital" city.

For example, more "Icy Vale" like cities ( but with more loyalty to the empire), cities like that - that bordered dangerous territory.

I'd like to see more Politics in Vives 2, and certain specific city based things.

For example, certain materials of metal either are not easily found in human territory, or they are too unskilled to use - so Merchants won't carry Mithril weapons for example.

This will make characters understand certain limitations on their race. So that you actually DO have to make good to find that Dwarven city, so you can buy those exotic material armors and weapons.

I'd also like to see price fluxuation. If you sell multiple items to a merchant, they should pay less and less for it each time, after a certain stock. So if they have 0 of an item, they'd pay a maximum price. And if they had say, 20 of the item, they'd pay half of the maximum. And that would decrease at a rate of 1% each additional number over 20. Additionally the opposite would occur if you purchased from the Merchant - to account for supply and demand.

Players can make a name for themselves, being obnoxiously rich merchants/bankers, without the aide of DM's. Of course, they would be very poor adventurers.

This is one of my favorite things, yet also can have utter disaster, and utter success - Player Run Governments. Start of with NPC's, and throghout the story slowly have PC's take over for the governments. I've had bad experiences with it, and I've had awesome best RP of my time experiences with it - up to the DM team I suppose.

I think an important part of being a living , breathing, world - is to remove NPC's from these critical , daily-event positions, and put PC's into them - so that we feel that if you actually dissapear for the game for a while, the World is different!

My 6 cents.

:-)

We have nations, sir! Nations!

Done.

I'd also like to see price fluxuation.

That really depends on how hard it would be to script or if it's at all possible.

At the end of the day, that's what DMs are for anyway (the peeps who went on the Tumata Trek with me can attest to that... hah!)

No idea, but totally unlikely. Personally, I would say a definite "no". We want our PCs to be adventurers. Vives is Vives. It isn't Sim City or Civilisation.

I think an important part of being a living , breathing, world - is to remove NPC's from these critical , daily-event positions, and put PC's into them - so that we feel that if you actually dissapear for the game for a while, the World is different!

Heh... sorry man, but I'm gonna have to completely disagree on that. NPCs and CPCs should occupy those critical positions so PCs can get on with adventuring and RPing. Vives isn't that kinda game. We want less focus on mundanity and the daily grind and drudgery of stuff like bureaucracy and governance—not more.

Also, because the DM team is aware of all of the behind-the-scenes stuff, it is far easier to coordinate ourselves or each other if we want a certain faction to do something. Believe me, flinging correspondance back and forth between the team and having to then pass that same information back and forth between PCs (edited with stuff taken out) is devilishly difficult. Way too much effort and coordination involved for not enough benefit. Good grief. If you could see what a headache it's been to try to get Midor on track_all the posts behind the scenes and in public and all the PMs to DMs and PCs and not just on Midor but on all the factions related to it and splintered from it... *holds head in hands* ...well, I despair of ever having to communicate to multiple PCs on matters even more complicated, on a daily basis. Such as running a government. Ack! I would quit.

Not to mention... did I mention Vives is for adventuring?

Ok, some things I'd like to see in Vives v2.0 bis.

1) Page 1 player handbook documentation focusing on the topic of the correct pronunciation of the word Vives.

b) Rangers become the widely-acknowledged power class, and score 11 hojillian on the coolness scale. Monsters and creepy evil PCs should just tremble at the thought of seeing a Ranger. Which only happens if a Ranger wishes to be seen. Even though he is partly balding, and has a somewhat shiny pate. Dual or multi-classed Ranger PCs shouldn't be as powerful though. They've been diluted by weaker classes and have lost focus and determination.

III) The Vives devs getting into it with Obsidian. That is, they (Obsidian) noted some months ago they intend to work closely with the 3rd party people that put out things like NWNx (that guy from COPaP) and the DLA team to ensure added/enhanced support for their extensions. Given some of the hefty back-end customizations from Q and further developed/maintained by Paul (and anyone else involved) it wuld be neat-oh! to see Paul getting his input into the final design of PW-related database extensions/support. If that came to pass, the Vives dev(s) would probably also score an early release version of NWN2 for testing/feedback.

D) A richly-detailed and clever back-story for the world that only a handful of players ever fully explore or discover. Dunno if it was decided on or not, but I'm hoping Vives 2 starts from scratch (new world, new PCs, new history, new Chief, etc.).

As long as there is customizable clothing and armor available to players, I'm happy.

There is a lot of Gnomish stuff written up, oh yes. I wrote it and Phoenix refined it. It is sooo awesome, in fact, that PD immediately went ahead and made a Gnome character in V1 based on it.

And wait 'til Halloween comes around this year, Rom. Who needs Undead when you can have a Gnomish Halloween? Oh, the horror!

Actually the Brandibuck Halloween last year was SWEET! If you're able to improve on that, I'll be more than impressed. Candles, jack-o-lanterns, Shadow-dragons & Chromatic-dragons at around midnight, bringing in the light and expelling the shadows... and all of Brandibuck decorated for the festivities! It was AWESOME!!!

I love our programmers. *sigh* *wipes away a tear*

More gladiators!!!!

No, I am Spartacus!

Seriously, the fighting pits and cages in Port Royale are cool to look at, but let's have them used more....noble families using their favorite gladiators to fight duels of honor...PCs using them to fight, etc.

And how about a big stadium/arena with chariot races and gladiator fights and teams of fighters against each other....

Whether you like snails or oysters, you have to agree that we need more gladiators and duels and arenas!!!

And, of course, more parasols!

Vives1, after conception of Vives2
Posted: 20 Aug 2006 07:46 PM
What will happen to the world of Vives1? Any official plans yet? Do we need to see what happens with NWN2 first? If it sucks, will you just leave Vives1 up and not convert? If it's cool will Vives1 "die"?

Will both co-exist on separate sites? Will this site be left available? Will we be able to get copies of our posts and stories in a "hard-copy" format ((aka;CD, disc, etc)) if this forum is to be nuked? Will it transition into V2?

It's already been clarified we'll be starting from scratch in the new world, but then will all of the server resources also be starting from scratch? I vote the V2 start completely from scratch with a new page and everything... Any news if PCs will be transferable in the new game from player's vault to players vault?

K.I.

((I'm just thinking that since I ordered a copy of NWN2 and it's supposed to mail on Sept19, assuming all goes well, that's not much time... one month!))

We've plans, but they're not quite ready for public consumption.

When Vives2 goes live, Vives will be shut down, and this site will go offline. I guess posts might be transferred over.

PCs will not be transferrable.

It's a ways of yet. Vives2 will not be going up in the immediate aftermath of the game's launch- we have to wait for custom content and build the world, first, after all.

Thanks Barnas!

Well, I don't know how it could be done, but if you all could find a way to get the great posts into a hard-copy, or even DL-able version... I'd love to take some of the fun stories and memorabelia with me.

Even if you wanted to make a Mod out of Vives1 and sell it, I bet a bunch of folks would buy it. Heck, even imperfect, it's pretty freakin gorgeous and fun to play in. I know a few gamers who'd probably link up and direct game together with me there too, if it were available. Maybe Bioware would even buy it, clean it up a bit, make the world "static" and release it for sale... who knows? ((Just think of the residuals! commissions! High sales prices for rights! =P JK!))

Just a few thoughts for some hard working DMs, Admins, and satisfied gamers. I'd just hate to see it "disappear" after so much fun time here. So often things in the net just disappear into net-oblivion, never to be seen again. After so much time here with you all, I'd hate to see that happen.

To run Vives locally requires more than just setting up a typical NWN server. You have to be very very technologically savvy.
