Hakpack Links
Posted: 27 Jul 2003 07:17 PM
This post will serve as the main download location for all hakpaks used for Vives.

First of all, Vives is running SoU (Shadows of Undrentide) and HotU (Hordes of the Underdark), so you must have those to connect to Vives.

As for hakpacks, all of them can now be found on this page:

Vives Hakpacks New, as v1.68

Portraits There are several custom portraits used by our players collated on one thread in the Essential Information forums.

Vives Hakpacks
Each of these zip files contains a hakpack installer (.exe). Run it to automatically install the hakpack files. The expanded size of these hak paks is approximatly 1500 MB. Many thanks to NWVault for hosting our hakpacks!

As new hakpacks are introduced, links will be listed here.

More information about our hakpacks as well as the optional portrait packs can be found here.

Patches, post vives hak 8 New as of October 9, 2006
The following two files are more current than the ones found in vives hak 8.
updated tlk file
updated 2da hak for nwn 1.68

You need to download these last two files to play on vives

The tlk file overwrites the current vives.tlk file in your tlk subdirectory. The vives1-68_2da.hak file goes into your hak directory. These file replace the same named files that may already be there

The two files are around 300 ish KB in total.

Hak Pack Links: Head Pack

Head Pack Instructions

How to install or update the head pack.

Basic Instructions:

(This is if you have nothing in your override, or nothing worth keeping anyway)

1/ Delete everything in your override. Wave bye bye.

2/ Extract the head pack files into your override folder.

Deleting Old Heads:

(This is if you have other things in your override and need to delete heads from your override, but don't want to delete the wrong thing; ALL heads MUST be deleted from your override BEFORE you install the head pack)

1/ Delete any file that looks like this:

pfa0_head012.mdl

The green text will be one of the following:
m, f

The red text will be one of the following:
a0, a2, d0, d2, e0, e2, h0, h2, o0, o2

The blue text will be a three-digit number.

The purple text will be one of the following:
mdl, plt

Examples:

pfa0_head012.mdl
pfe0_head018.mdl
pma0_head016.mdl
pmh2_head037.mdl
pfa0_head013.plt

(In other words, you will see that they all follow a systematic numbering format, and all contain the word "head")

2/ Extract the head pack files into your override folder.

Multiple Override Folders

(This is if you use your override for things other than Vives, eg other PWs, and need to use different overrides for different worlds/modules)

1/ Make a copy of your override folder. You should now have two folders, override and override_copy (or whatever you want to call your copy).

2a/ If you only have heads in your override, or are confident there's nothing in there worth keeping anyway - delete everything from your override.
2b/ If you use other overrides - delete only the heads (see instructions above on how to delete only the heads).

3/ Extract the head pack files into your override folder.

4/ Now, let's say that the contents of override_copy have heads you use for Persistent World X and you go to play Persistent World X... but your override currently has Vives stuff in it. Here's what you do:

4a/ Rename your override (which has Vives stuff in it). Let's call it override_vives.

4b/ Rename override_copy (your old override, which had heads and content for use in Persistent World X) to override.

4c/ You can now play on Persistent World X using their overrides.

The following two files are more current than the ones found in vives hak 7.
updated tlk file
updated 2da hak

You do not need to download these last two files to play on vives, but they correct a number of little problems and update the spells with the vives specific customizations.

The tlk file overwrites the current vives.tlk file in your tlk subdirectory. The vives1-66v2_2da.hak file overwrites the current file found in your hak directory.

The two files are 250 KB in total.

I especially recommend that all Clerics and Druids download these updated files. Other players should do so if they wish to use some of the new custom magic items that are being created.

The tlk file overwrites the current vives.tlk file in your tlk subdirectory. The vives1-66v2_2da.hak file overwrites the current file found in your hak directory.

The changes will be in v2-95-8

Hey guys. I'm DLing this on another com and AGAIN am remended why so may PCs.NPCs have been headless all this time. I don't have RAR supporting software so I can't DL the offered headpak. Is it possible it could be made available in .ZIP format on this page, for all us "lesser equipped"? I would TOTALLY enjoy that, I'm sure, thanks!!!

The tlk and 2da hak have been updated with some small fixes

- change to the tlk file to update the description of dancing lights

- change to dancing lights so you can make scrolls of dancing lights (untested, should work)

- remove alignment restrictions for Bards. They can be lawful if you wish. Lawful bards are most likely callers for square dancing though. Be warned

The download is optional if you don't need this functionality. If you do install it, overwrite the existing two files.

Right... seems to be a problem with people downloading the haks from nwvault sometimes.

I'll prepare a monster zip file with all the haks required to play.

I have a question about vives tlk files. Should all files with .tlk at the end go into our tlk folder or just the vives.tlk?

I am asking since I had found epicspells.tlk in one of the haks and thought it should be moved. I'm hoping I've done the right thing.

One problem with the haks, is that old content that we no longer use remains in the haks.

epicspells.tlk was used at one point, then I had to replace it with vives.tlk.

All you really need is vives.tlk in the tlk folder.

They are not essential for play, but useful to have for the corrections they make.

Yeah, and I copied and backed up the haks and talk files just over 2 weeks ago, installing them on another PC and have had no problems. I'd just say to try again. I also removed EpicSpells.tlk from the collection. (I think I have it in a backdated folder on a BU disk, just in case.)

Since our programmers have consolidated the cep files (etc) into a customized and smaller version for Vives, I needed to start from scratch to save memory. (I had DL'd BOTH, oops!) If you take the hacks from the vault page, you should be fine. There's also a link from the site here to download PC pic files. It's pretty complete, even if it isn't catagorized by race and sex for all of the pics. Since most PCs are using pics from that selection, I recommend using it... unless everybody starts getting interested in my compilation of pics all in Race-sex order! Comon! I know you all want to start converting!!! =P

Okay Please help. I am REALLY GREEN and need a helping hand. I am TOTALLY confused about the Haks. Now I've downloaded the Haks and all that but I am confused by what you guys are talking about with Hak folders and TLK folders? Where do I put these on my comp? I mean do I put them on my desktop or what? I guess what I'm asking is What do I do with the various files that I have downloaded once they are downloaded? Like I said, I'm green and please be gentle in your reply. Thanks. Peace.

The Viveshak1-8 files (or if you downloaded the complete package) you can extract by double-clicking and accepting to install them. They´ll be installed to the appropriate directory automatically.

The Vives1-68_2da.zip goes into Neverwinter Nights\NWN\hak, just extract it into that directory.

The vives.tlk.zip you extract into Neverwinter Nights\NWN\tlk. If you´re asked to overwrite existing files, accept. It will just replace the old files.

You don´t need the head override, since that is included in one of the hakpaks.

That´s all, I think.

Just create a new empty folder called "tlk" (without quotes) in the NWN main directory. Same goes for "erf", "portrait" or any other folders that are required by some 3rd party additions, but missing.
