1.Re: Shoutouts
Posted by drgrogs on 11/19/2004 10:24:10 PM
Really wishes she had more time IG... : (

Too many friends and great RPers to mention, and I wouldn't want anyone to feel left out.
2.Re: Vives Personals

Alarwen Emeria

Alarwen is a tall, silver-haired, half-elven woman, usually found patrolling the wild places close to her home in the Mystic Woods. She is seldom seen without her companion, a large black panther named Jessminda. Although known as a Ranger and woodcrafter, it is said she has been studying the ways of magic and has acquired some skill as a Sorcerer and Arcane Archer. Consistent with her mixed blood, she is quite beautiful to the human eye, but somewhat coarse appearing ...

No two deserve time off like you two. Hope the RL things are good things and you can enjoy the time off! See you all IG after my time off is over.

Cheers!

4.Re: A Very Good Book
Posted by drgrogs on 2/10/2005 3:28:15 PM
Any of you read the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman? Somebody gave the the first book, "The Golden Compass", and I ended up finishing the whole series within a few weeks.

I know it's classified as "young reading" by the bookstores, but I think that's a huge mistake. The philosophical underpinnings are vast and complex, with ideas about life and the universe that will make your jaw drop on occasion from their sheer originality and beauty. ...
5.Re: Sol's Storyteller of the month - December

Very silly, please ignore. : )

There once was a singer named Macha
Who snarfed while she munched on her taca*
Ground beef hit her dress
And it made a huge mess
“Oh darn it there goes my new frocka.”

*think taco with a southern accent

Hope it made somebody laugh.

6.Re: Crafting
Posted by drgrogs on 11/16/2004 5:36:10 PM
I have to agree wholeheartedly with the above critique regarding woodcrafting, especially fletching, which is so hard, it's really a two-person job. With the current game balance as it is, and current quest rewards as they are, there's absolutely no reason for anyone to want to buy what us woodcrafters have to offer. The elemental arrows might be worth making if I could find any of the ingredients - bag of fire?.

Right now, the only reason I continue making bows is for the RP value ...
7.Re: Crafting
Posted by drgrogs on 11/17/2004 12:38:32 PM
In reading over my earlier post, I think it sounds a little harsh. I love crafting, and I love crafting on Vives. I would continue to do it even if nothing changed. The RP value for Ala goes far beyond the actual products of her labors and any gold they generate. (Thanks for the vote of confidence though, Ken) That being said, I still think it would be nice if crafted products could have something really and tangibly unique or personal about them.

Here's what I'm proposing (ideas to ...
8.Re: Happy Holidays yall
Posted by drgrogs on 12/22/2004 7:16:59 AM
Happy holidays everybody!

I've been missing you all. I just started my surgery rotation and I'm on 14-hour days with overnight call every 4th day, so you can imagine I'm stretched a little thin. I will probably be taking a little Vives holiday during this period. You may see me poke my head in every now and again, especially on IRC. Otherwise Ala will be largely absent through Feb.

I hope everyone is well, and I hope you all get everything you wanted for Christmas!
9.Updates to Ferein Stores
Posted by drgrogs on 12/3/2004 7:27:54 PM
Thank you thank you thank you thank you...

for all the new stuff in Ferein. It's awesome. It also makes me feel really stupid for complaining just yesterday about lack of bows to pd, and then BOOM - all of a sudden there's new stuff. I'm sure it was in the works before I said anything. : )

I do have one question about the new Arcane Archer armors... was it intentional to have a max Dex bonus of 4 on most of them? The only armor without max Dex is the Mithril, which is ...
10.Re: Revisiting Quests for Loot... over and over again...
Posted by drgrogs on 11/8/2004 7:18:10 PM
Nor me...

A trip through the Gladden Hills is just part of Ala's commute home. ; )

Please note that she never farms the caves, just clears the way through. Of course a surprise or two would be welcome from time to time. :0
11.Patience
Posted by drgrogs on 11/21/2004 11:57:55 PM
He pulled very slowly on the softened oak stave with a gentle and insistent force, listening carefully to the wood as it bent for signs of resistance or weakness. Gradually, it yielded to his pressure, assuming the graceful curve familiar now to many throughout Ferein. He released a resin covered hand to tighten the clamps that would hold the oak to its new form.

“There… that should do,” he sighed to himself.

He lifted the heavy iron mold with its newly bound captive and ...

Hmm... Didn't really want that choice piece of information spread about. Guess it's too late now. Oh, and by the way, the cheeky little scamp nearly got himself killed. Jessminda doesn't take kindly to aggressive actions towards her master.
13.The Will of Midoran
Posted by drgrogs on 11/14/2004 9:12:51 PM
Alarwen left the reconciliation service even more troubled than ever about the future of Midor. She had expected to hear some contrition from Father Seran, a reasonable man portending to offer a open hand and an invitation for all the races of Vives to return to Midor in peace and safety. What was offered, however, was only superficial justification for Midor’s descent into xenophobia and extremism. If outsiders did not understand Midor’s actions, then too bad. There was no sincere apology for ...

Ara, thanks for the technical help yesterday.

15.Re: Disappearing Resources
Posted by drgrogs on 11/12/2004 2:20:54 PM
I haven't checked, but hemp was also an important Brandibuck resource. I hope it's either still there or will be replaced somewhere nearby. The new areas around Brandibuck would be a great place to add some Ash trees. As far as I know there in only 1 IG at this time, and it's in a very inaccessible place. It's supposed to be a lower level woodcrafting type, but the characters who would use it cannot get to it.

Also, can we beef up the crafting work areas in Ferein? It's a mystery to ...

17.Re: Invisibility
Posted by drgrogs on 10/24/2004 10:18:44 PM
I always thought that if you saw a translucent player it meant that you saw through the invisibility or hide or whatever. Why else pump points into spot? I think we aren't meant to think so much about whether you really "see" a player or not. To me it's simple: you either see him or you don't. So if I see a character on my screen, I play as if I can see him IG. If my character fails a spot check, I don't see the other character on screen at all. I think that's appropriate.

18.Re: Ring of Animal Friendship for Sale

*Ala scratches her head and wonders, "How much animal friendship are we talking about here?"*

*scibbles a note in flowy handwriting*

Would like to meet so I can assess the ring at a time and place of your convenience. I'll check back here...

19.Re: New Vives Hakpak
Posted by drgrogs on 10/29/2004 12:43:20 PM
Hey there Ara,

I just downloaded the new hackpack... well the issue is, I'm on a Mac (no comments please) and I have to manually install - the .exe won't work for me. I think I can figure out which files go in what folders, but I would love a rundown from you, just so I know I get it right.

Thanks,

Alarwen.

Treehouses??!!!

*Ala thinks seriously about putting a FOR SALE sign up outside her house in the now tainted Mystic Woods... doesn't think it'll get much on the open market though. Oh well.

((Looking forward to the changes, and thanks for all the hard work by the team!))

*Alarwen reads the notice thinking to herself*

"This is worth a look..."

She quickly scribbles a reply, "Ranger of Latonei would love to inspect the ring offered. Reply with proposed meeting time."

She signs it with a large flowing "A"

Hmm... That leaves a lot of singles out there... Let's see, there's:

Shard
Macha (think of your future father in-law!)
Vandle
Urebril
Caliber
Gregor
Solitaire
Sirac
Norbert
Marillian
Kaya (wait, isn't she for hire?)
Trent
Calmier
Gasher
Alarwen (still hung up on that wizard who died a while ago)
Cantor
Fengus (love the mouth)
Eliana
Pickston (love the accent)
Melphus (gotta be partial to ...

You're right, Trish... I did forget Dekla... and it's her who's for hire, not Kelta. *smirk*

And hey... what's this about bladder control?

Yasmyn: Sorry about Cora, I didn't mean to leave anyone out! I was just trying to include more people in the discussion. : )

Barnas: Just because Xune is celibate now, doesn't mean she couldn't fall in love.

Sol: I haven't seen Ilyana in ages...

benny: I didn't mention Elvalia because she was on the romance list... and Perin, well she's just so cute! (we are talking about the female halfling, not the underage wizard, right?)
25.Re: The Love Didecohedran of Vives

If you're talking about *My* Perin, he's not a wizard. He's a druid, thank you very much! Wizard, Hmph.

Chop my head off, why don't cha... : ) I've talked to him IG what, like once for 2 min?

All I know about your Perin is that he was casting spells in that doomed exploration party underground. And you're probably right about the older women... just doesn't seem right. :0
