Updates to Ferein Stores Posted: 03 Dec 2004 07:27 PM |
Thank you thank you thank you thank you...
for all the new stuff in Ferein. It's awesome. It also makes me feel really stupid for complaining just yesterday about lack of bows to pd, and then BOOM - all of a sudden there's new stuff. I'm sure it was in the works before I said anything. : )
I do have one question about the new Arcane Archer armors... was it intentional to have a max Dex bonus of 4 on most of them? The only armor without max Dex is the Mithril, which is epic, but not wearable yet. I would love to buy some, but Ala would lose half her Dex bonus, negating much of the benefit.
Just curious,

Just for your information.... the Max dex bonus is only determined when calculating your Dodge AC, and your skill checks. all attack bonus and reflex saves remain at full Dex value.
I'm not entirely sure if this is your concern, but if it is, I'd like to alleviate it.
If you ARE concerned about the Dodge AC and the Skill checks.. then think of it this way...
Chain shirts (AC 4, like the elven Chain) Have a max dex bonus of 4... which makes 8 AC total, with dex and Armor AC combined... The only way to have more AC is to use either Full plate (8 AC and 1 Dodge =9) Padded ARmor (1 AC and 8 Dodge With 26+ Dex =9) or Clothes, Which provide 0 AC and unlimited Dodge bonuses. (If you have 30+ Dex, this is the way to go... but even at 29, you will still have the same AC as Padded, and if you have 26-27 Dex, you will have the same AC in both clothes(Ac 0) and Chain shirt(This is the one case in which padded is for you.) 28-29 you will have the Same AC in both clothes and Padded, and past 30 you should be wearing AC 0 Armor. Of course, you also have to take into the account of being flatfooted. A chain shirt will always give you at least that 4 AC... even if caught flatfooted (And I know you don't have Uncanny Dodge...) but in clothes, being caught flatfooted will cause you to lose a good 9 AC from your Shown total, + whatever Dodge comes from other things (Tumble increments of 5, Dodge Feat, Boots with AC bonuses, Mobility, mage armor) Besides your Dexterity. *shrugs* so Being aware is always important for those not in armor.
as for Skill checks... I think, but cannot be sure that most of the Elven chain suits have like +5 or so to Hiding and Move silently, if these skills are your cheif concern. This means that although the 4 AC lowers them by 5 points (With 28 Dex) the armor makes up for it in skill bonuses, so You don't lose anything, really. If you use your dexterity ability for other skills like Pick locks, Parry, and so on, Then you would suffer with the Armor on.... So.. don't wear it. *grins*
I think I'll stop there before the DM's Ban me from Vives by making powergamers of everyone. *thumbs up* |
