| 1. | Some of my thoughts on what is roleplaying Posted by Lal on 6/4/2004 3:18:14 PM Playing a role, even in death. Landru, you say a lot that sounds great, until the Not's. There is no not, a character will do as that character does, think and expect what the character will. A character can attack a guard and expect nothing to happen, maybe they hope to intimidate, maybe they consider themselves fearsome, or maybe they are just ignorant. They must accept the consequences, however.
Expecting a god to raise one, or treating them with contempt, is not OOC, nor is ... |
| 2. | Some of my thoughts on what is roleplaying Posted by Lal on 6/4/2004 3:18:44 PM On the topic of killing a guard and waiting for them to take you in, I say, run, but periodically leave DMs messages about what you've done.
Whenever I spoke to an NPC about something of slight importance, I would leave periodic messages in DM chat telling of what my character did or said in brief. |
| 3. | Re: Some of my thoughts on what is roleplaying Posted by Lal on 6/4/2004 3:52:41 PM I mean periodically send messages (like every hour or so, until you've gotten some response that a DM is aware), so a DM eventually finds out. So that killing a guard, for example, will mean guards will eventually come and get you, and that its not just consequence free.
And those are the 'nots' I'm talking about the rest of what Landru says is perfect and true. But a character could whack a ... |
| 4. | Re: Load Screen Hints Posted by Lal on 7/2/2004 6:29:51 PM Could you also make custom pics for load screens?
Like using Vives map closer ups of the current area with an X showing where you currently are and such.
[Ed: Alo]Custom loadscreens are doable, and I wouldn't mind having a custom one for the entry area, but they are a lot more work, especially the map thing. But lets try and leave that for another topic discussion and use this one just for the Load Screen Hints ![]() |
| 5. | Re: Transport System!!!! what a wonderfull roleplay tool!!! Posted by Lal on 5/7/2004 2:46:09 PM I personaly like the transport system.. but I stopped going to Ferein after I was marooned there a couple days. But for getting from Midor to Port and back I never have any trouble, the boat from Ladriel is always running to Buckshire it seems, and its cheaper then going from Midor to Port, and you spend less time on a boat since its a shorter distance according to the map (its not a long hike from Midor to Ladriel, and very few enemies, just goblins, who can be avoided by taking a wagon ... |
| 6. | Re: Players Currently IG Posted by Lal on 6/18/2004 7:28:13 PM But all that can be found in the logon screen, with a class breakdown as well. |
| 7. | Re: Important: Crafting feedback Posted by Lal on 6/5/2004 4:39:05 PM Tailoring
I can't seem to find certain types of animals that are actually skinnable. Like cougars, all the ones I've seen do not leave skinnable corpses.
And I can skin an ox, but its not an option to cure or tan the hides, and theres no ox leather armour.
Would it be possible to make snakes skinnable? Snake leather would be neat. |
| 8. | Re: Important: Crafting feedback Posted by Lal on 6/5/2004 10:21:43 PM 6) NPC vendors aren't a great place to sell the wares. Perhaps persistent PC operated store fronts are possible? I don't know. I'd like to make something, put it on my own vendor at a given price and then PCs can buy off that vendor whether I'm around or not.
And vendors that could buy certain things, like resources for trades (somehow be able to set a vendor to buy cotton, for instance). |
| 9. | Re: Important: Crafting feedback Posted by Lal on 6/6/2004 3:23:59 PM Where do the existing cougars in Vives live anyways, so I can swap some of them for the cnr Cougars?
Buckshire trail has some, I believe, not sure where else. There are many animals ingame that are not skinnable that should be:
All the animals in the Buckshire Ruins One of the malar panthers in Kobai desert (the one more to the north west) A few of the bears in Sunix Woods Others ... |
| 10. | Re: Important: Crafting feedback Posted by Lal on 6/6/2004 3:45:58 PM Ah, thanks. I wasn't sure if they were or not, but no cougars and all the oxes, deer, and badgers being skinnable was what confused me. Can't wait for cougars thanks |
| 11. | Re: Important: Crafting feedback Posted by Lal on 6/7/2004 4:11:38 PM Oh, for tailoring, how does one get a Book of Patterns? I cant find any anywhere, and I used to think it might be something you can make at higher tailoring levels, but I can't make it at 9th yet. |
| 12. | Re: Important: Crafting feedback Posted by Lal on 6/7/2004 9:43:52 PM In the curing tub, the menus are nicely broken up into submenus (small, medium, large hides) while in the tanning rack, it is one giant menu. If you can make related menus consistent, it makes it less fustrating to navigate the menues
The reason for this, I'm guessing, is that it matters what size the skins are in the curing tub (1 salt for small, 2 salt for medium, 3 for large; 1 tanning acid for any size) but doesnt matter for tanning (all ... |
| 13. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/2/2004 8:22:15 PM Instead of giving guards and such true seeing (not including dragons or other things with grounds for natural true seeing), could they give them See Invisibility and high spot?
I just hate how no rogue can sneak past anything with true seeing, guards should have high spot, but a rogue should have a slight chance of being able to hide from them. |
| 14. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/3/2004 2:27:36 AM Throws a pebble? Bah. He disguises himself as a guard or other person that has a valid reason to be there and walks right under their noses. He poisons the water supply or food the guards use leaving them all unconscious for a time. He uses a scroll of illusion to make an apparition of a lich that scares the guards away long enough that he can do his dirty deeds... etc.. etc.
Well, I think some of that is roleplayed out, like when A'daren ... |
| 15. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/3/2004 12:47:37 PM What are all your thoughts on removing Dev Crit? Do you think its a neccessary balancing issue, or something we should leave in?
I'm of the opinion that it should not be removed, since it may be powerful, but it is not a kill all thing, and its not easy to get (a nice goal for epic fighters). A 23rd level wizard will be more then a match for a 23rd level fighter with it if they are smart, but not in melee if ... |
| 16. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/3/2004 4:26:14 PM Mages/Clerics can kill in one hit, and dev crit must pass AC, must be able to critical and actually do such, and then the subject gets a fort save, its not a kill-anything-in-one-hit ability. |
| 17. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 9:43:10 AM A 20th level wizard could have black blade of disaster, which has Dev Crit too, so she would definately loose :P
I beat the Demon at the end of HotU with one hit, all thanks to Black blade of disaster... if dev crit gets taken out, will the blade no longer have it as well? Cause that thing is ridiculous! 1 spell and you get what would take a fighter a LONG time to get. |
| 18. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 10:39:53 AM pfft? and attack the caster? cant hit what isnt near, I run away like mad in circles when I'm a mage leaving whatever feels like chasing me to be hit by the black blade, which will eventually critical, and eventually kill it... or just rely on buffs takin hits, or just be invisible or.. or... lotsa spells :p
The black blade is insane against a fighter! if it has crit then a fighter should be ... |
| 19. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 11:15:08 AM 140 rounds where you can kill in one hit isnt that bad especially with critical fails on a roll of 1. But I think you might be right anyways, the demon has immunity to crits, and no death immunity.. *whistles*
Instead of removing dev crit, couldnt you just make it a death effect? I personally dont see the need, since there is a way around it, called Immunity to Criticals, which all undead and ... |
| 20. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 11:31:43 AM Dev Crit is by far the most powerful feat in the game. It's like giving a fighter the ability to do endless HTH Finger of Death attacks. The point is, yes, casters can match it, but only a few times, Dev Crit works over and over. The main issue being that the DC is too high and it has unlimited uses. If the DC was more reasonable or it had limited number of uses it would be fine. Any possibility of making one or both of these changes to it in Vives? I'd hate to ... |
| 21. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 11:35:04 AM Quivering palm is once per day. Deva crit is about once per round.
-Barnas
Its a free feat you get at level 15, what do ya expect? does not take two epic feats |
| 22. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 11:43:30 AM I'd like to say, in general, I think its a horrid idea to weaken feats and such. There is always a counter to everything.
-Add in some belts, or a special special item thats hard to get, that give immunity to criticals, or specifically immunity to dev crits if possible. -Make dev crit a death effect. -Everyone become palemasters, woo!
For DMing problems, just throw in a couple undead into the mix, every undead has immunity to criticals. |
| 23. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/1/2004 11:58:06 AM Finger of death DC is 10 + 7 (spell level) + 12 (relevant modifier, 34 int wizard this example) + 2/4/6 (spell focus/improved/epic) , so 35 with epic spell focus. |
| 24. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/2/2004 11:59:08 AM currently no monsters have Dev Crit in Vives, as personally I feel players might be a tad pissed off if the fight was one hit and dead ;)
However, if the consensus is that we keep it...... then I'll be sure to add some higher level monsters with it After all fair is fair right? :P

I take back all my arguments! I won't ... |
| 25. | Re: Devastating Critical Posted by Lal on 6/2/2004 6:15:01 PM Oh, I was wrong on the black blade, the demon had immunity to crits, not death magic, the black blades have death magic, unless dev crit isnt blocked by immunity to crits |
