1.Re: IG relationships
Posted by Jack Sprat on 2/18/2005 7:00:41 AM
That said, i think people do sometimes fail to appreciate that we are RPing adventures in a fantasy setting, and instead they seem to pursue a very more mundane existance, more akin to Emmerdale Farm.

Now of course whilst there is nothing wrong with this if thats what they want, I cant help but fail to think this isnt the right setting for it. This isnt really confined to IG relationships but some RPing as a whole.

I am in total agreement ...

I've read through his posts on what a good RPer would do and what a bad RPer would do (though he hasnt used those tags and I probably shouldnt either)

It all varies person to person - RP - which is what makes it so nice and varied and so much better than just playing NWN as a stand alone thing. I normally hate chatting to npc's now because it just seems pointless and if anything brings me more OOC than IC. I realise that DMs can't be everywhere and do ...

I STILL don't have my pc working by the way.

Now I hate the Danish as an entire race, Overclockers for being a sh*te online company, and computers in general for always crashing when you least want them to.

I finally have my pc back and it finally boots up windows on a working hard drive.

A few final tweaks and drivers tonight, and then my new 250G 16m cache maxtor should be up and running.

Then all I need to do is spend several long hours installing all my games again (well - NWN and WoW at least) and then all the patches and hakpaks etc.

Finally I might get back into the game again then, on a machine that doesn't lag me to hell or otherwise make things ...

I'm not even suprised that I'm writing this.....

The brand new hard drive which turned up friday, first of all couldn't be fitted because 'it had a different power supply socket and I don't have an adapter for it, but I can get you one'. Then when he came back Saturday with said adapter, switching the machine on just resulted in a REALLY annoying beeping 'wee-oo' noise from the box, and the boot up still hanging like it did WITH THE LAST HARD DRIVE!!!!!

Apparently, now he ...

Well, I missed the DM event Sunday and indeed even writing a post about it, because my computer was visciously slaughtered by WoW.

There I was one minute, merrily in the middle of a huge pvp bash on Warcraft, the next minute my computer had frozen and that was it.

It looks like my entire opperating system has somehow gone corrupt, or at least parts of it are missing, and I'm having to pay a little IT guy called Issac to come out tonight and try to fix it for me.

8.Completed quests
Posted by Jack Sprat on 12/28/2004 11:13:04 AM
Just a suggestion about quests really - I like the ones I've done and I like finding new ones, my only niggle is that you have no permanent record of which ones you've done. Is there no way of setting a toggle or whatever so your characters Journal stays updated with completed quests? Since the characters used on vives are used only in vives, rather than other servers and other quests. Also - maybe a few more wandering tinkers/gossips etc. who could give you clues towards quest - like where to ...

10.Half finshed quests
Posted by Jack Sprat on 2/28/2005 10:29:12 AM
Are there any plans to finish off the part-made quests, or is that already on 'the list'?

Things like the missing mayor of Buckshire (to complete deidre pink's quest);
the peeping tom;
gorolath's key releasing the missing 'trapped' woman;
the crying woman in midor looking to give her fiancee's necklace back?
Don't know if there's any more I've missed.

Or are they all complete and I just haven't done them?

I realise there's such a huge ongoing ...

Hi folks ;)

Some Quests were only part finished due to waiting on some new areas that were going to be added in game. There's been a slight change of plans as regards this (the ones incomplete are quite large and interlink somewhat), so apologies for the delay in eventually getting these done....... but I'll ensure that they are finished this Week :)

Cheers

- Ara

Cool - that's excellent news!

I agree - back with the keeping on topic.

The candy quest is fine, and as far as I know the baby quest is as well - isn't it? I seem to remember getting xp for it, and the woman thanks me for my help now when I talk to her.

The trouble is, like I mentioned before in another post, remembering what quests you've found/started/completed/whatever. I now keep a track in my journal of what quests I've completed as all of my characters - the only trouble being that I started ...

Just another thought along these lines (and please - no-one take it that I'm hassling people about world building, because I'm not - I'm just trying to be helpfull or offer suggestions).

I don't know anything at all about the NWN toolset or how you guys make this world of ours, but I was thinking about some of the unfinnished areas. They might not actually be unfinished - they might be perfectly finished - I'm just stating my opinion of them. Some of them might even have changed ...

Believe me there are huge areas you havent touched on yet...and more will follow.

See, this is what I'm hoping - but my exploration doesn't seem to be turning them up. What with the new 'don't go here, don't go there' proclamations cutting down on places to visit (until I hope the big revolt/riot/war/whatever); I've been exploring more but not having much luck with places I haven't been. That was why I posted before about maps, and why I mention maybe ...

Another point to add is that some areas being empty makes it easier for DMs to use them for their plots. So somewhere that is empty one time can never assumed to be empty the next timeWink.

Oh yeah - totally. I mean - I'm not saying that every area should be chock full of monsters and quests and chests and stuff. I wasn't trying to suggest that. It's ...

Otherwise, as Sirac says - Ara is the principle man behind all changes. I've started making areas, and trust me, it is one hell of a lot of work. It is also an artistic expression - and it takes a muse to get you going - so things happen as and when the creative flows are right for the task at hand.

I think I have the most travelled character in the whole mod, and that character still has not seen everything; so keep looking, and don't forget to check the ...

I did actually find a place I hadn't been before the other day, quite by chance, in an area that I had been before. The place had been there all along - I'd just never actually noticed it somehow. Loved it - even though it did scare the hell outta me, exploring for new places to go without any backup (by the time people came on for me to party with - I was miles away from civilisation!).
10gp for a room! Highway robbery without the bandits!

18.Re: Death and Dying and DMs doing it.
Posted by Jack Sprat on 6/9/2005 6:32:35 AM
Players, on the other hand, tend not to like this idea. They don't want to die. Ever. For any reason. A character might be disappointed, but in the mind of most players, it's not "their fault." Lag killed them. DMs killed them. Blah blah blah. What they do want from the DMs is gifts. Bountiful hordes of treasure, countless experience, limitless power, unfathomable wealth, ancient and arcane artifacts, and undying glory. But not if they have to die. The basic ...

On the original topic - I think I understand your point, and in my defense, I will say that even in a "good week" of play I don't exactly rake in the experience. And Boglryn, if you're doing something I'm not, let me kno- *cough* I mean, don't do that, since that's sorta like cheating. Anyway. The problem that I foresee is that putting us the player in a position where we might die, and then us dying is really the source of I think a lot of player/DM static, ...

RASPUTIN

Human cleric of Elbereth. A far more martial outlook on life than most normal followers of the mother. Always clanking around in heavy plated armour cutting quite an imposing, if a trifle old, figure. Very calm and collected, always more willing to talk than resort to violence - except where the undead are concerned. An event in his past lead to his separation from his brother Jorael, and his hatred for creatures of undeath.
Always prepared to help people - and freely ...
21.Musings of an old man
Posted by Jack Sprat on 5/13/2005 10:05:19 AM
The old man lay there in his bed, the thick fur covers thrown back and his strong muscled arms folded behind his head; a roaring log fire keeping the small inn room cosy and warm.

When did evil get so strong? He thought to himself. When did fighting the forces of darkness get to be such a chore, instead of the calling it once had been.

Always he had been followed by controversy and often met with scorn, following as he did a deity of a race not his own - a thing few others ...

The sticks looked to be holding, thought the old man as he looked up from the heavy bandages around his left shin.

At first he had calmly walked past the wolf pack, secure within the sanctuary of his goddess, as he went to meet Jimmy and head towards the volcano and the inevitability of the meeting with the evil that dwelt within. Suddenly he felt a tearing pain in his leg and noticed a trap, splintering the bones of his left shin and hurling him forwards to the ground. Unarmed, and ...

Stretching the muscles of his back, the old man pondered his next actions.
Newly invigorated after weeks of grueling excercise and punishing fitness training, he felt ready once more to take on the world. Well, at least what the world decided to throw at him - if not the whole of the world at once.

Strapping on his newly gleaming armour again, the old dents and scratches buffed out, he stood looking in his mirror. Still the same tired old face stared back at him. Was it worth ...

I've never seen it work.

I tried after the last patch, and even a walk would cause it to disappear on me.

Bloody annoying

dang! I didn't know it didn't work! I've been casting that for ages as a really usefull version of prot evil! No wonder my summoned hound archon gets feared so often.

Just jumping on here really quickly, and risking ther wrath of 'she who must be obeyed', to say it was a really cool event today. Very much enjoyed it.

Also just to say that all of my comments and actions were very much IC - so please don't anyone think I've got the hump with them or anything.

Really cool story, very good adventure, nice fights. A bit laggy in places, but not the worst I've had and all in all it worked very well.

Thanks to the Ranger - well ...
